The "i'm looking forward to people doubting us again" quote from McDavid is the tell tale sign.

They better get their collective heads out of their a$$es because this series is (almost) over.

Holy shit am I gonna eat crow on this one..

There are numerous interesting things about this series:

Apparently, the Oilers lost 3 games in a row at least 3 times this season.  Insanely, every time, in the 4th game they would win and then win 10+ games in a row.

The other week I saw a interesting article about Boborov not being as good as he looks or as good as most people think.  Sure, he has played well, but not spectacular - he hasn't really stolen any games.  The article was based on advanced stats.  ex:  after the 1st rnd he was ranked 11th of the 16 goalies.  In the 2nd rnd I think it said he was 5th of 8 and I forget 3rd rnd but he wasnt in the top 2 until the Finals.  Interestingly enough, it was Habs fan that wrote the article suggesting it was great news because an elite goalie isn't a prerequisite to win.

Wow, what a ballsy call to do that offside challenge.  If they had lost that it might have cost them the series.

It was the right call imo. Their pk has been incredible.

Bob 100% stole game 1 of this series and was huge in game 3 as well.  And both of those games were stolen according to both the eye test and the advanced stats... so I don't think that article Is very accurate at all.

And sure edmonton might win without great goaltending but skinner has stepped up and not every team has connor mcdavid and leon draisaitl to outscore mistakes so if you cant get them, you better have great goaltending.

I’ve heard wildly divergent takes on Bob in the media as well. However, I agree completely with your assessment. I was BBQing and so I had to listen to parts of the game on the radio, which had the Florida feed. (While they were pros about it, you could feel their pain, LOL). The colour guy asserted that without Bob this series would be 5-1 Oilers. I’d downgrade that to 4-2, but the point seems valid to me. Coming from the Panthers’ feed, that is a striking admission.

Another factor seems to be that, earlier in the series, the Oilers’ D was reverting to its historic norm of making key gaffes (which Skinner of course failed to rescue them from). Skinner is now making those stops, but the D seems to have tightened up. I said coming into this series that Edmonton has quietly become a strong defensive team, and a game like last night’s showed what they are capable of.

Game 7 should be incredible. One ominous signal for the Oil was (a) the quietude of McDavid and Dreiseitl last night and (b) the way Barkov seemed to be hitting his stride. I can’t believe that McDavid, at least, will not be in Beast Mode for the game has been his destiny for his entire life.

You almost hardly noticed McDavid out there last night, his quietest game of the series but will he be quiet 2 games in a row? The Oiler depth guys have been terrific especially Connor Brown, Henrique and Janmark.

One good thing is that Florida will have the shortest summer possible and they can't sign everybody, maybe a tougher season next year?  They are pretty deep though.

I hate making predictions, the Oilers have momentum and confidence but my gut tells me Florida wins a close one.

The difficult thing about Skinner is that people will look at his stats this postseason and the fact that he won a cup and believe that he deserves a really big contract next time.

Is there anybody here that thinks Skinner deserves a big contract? I think we are all suspicious.

Any team giving him a huge contract will deserve the subsequent pain it causes. He’s an NHL goalie, but please let’s not delude ourselves that he is some Price-like stud netminder,

It's totally not an issue here, Skinner has 2 years left on his contract so by the time his contract is up, the Oilers will have a lot more information to base his next contract on. He has been mediocre some nights but has also played some terrific games. I don't think anybody is comparing him to Price.

Bobrovsky hasn't played like a 10M/year goalie the past few nights, Skinner not bad value for 2.6M/year.

I couldn’t watch the game as I was on a flight…was it McDavid not playing as well or was it FLA coverage on him?

Draisatl did make a nice pass for the opening goal.

Great post

Oilers are in a good position here to see what Skinner is. His agent is going to be looking for a payday in two years.

Good question. It seemed like he didn't have much space so I think it was more Florida providing good coverage.

He seemed to be playing defense a lot last night. Quiet offensively, but he was pretty solid in his own zone other than the penalty.

Part of me wants the Panthers to win so they can't sign their depth and start sucking. Having said that, my emotions tell a different story. I'm on the oilers bandwagon.  Especially with the comeback.

Unless someone has a specific reason for hating the Oilers (e.g., they are Flames fans), I don’t know how you can NOT pull for

(a) McDavid to win a Cup and

(b) the Oilers not to complete this mind-bending, historic comeback.

It’s like watching Tiger Woods win the Masters at age 40 or whatever. You’re watching history unfold right in front of your eyes.

By contrast, a win by FLA is just one more Cup for a generic sun-belt franchise nobody outside the home market really cares about.

Win or lose on Monday, I think the market values for Florida's players are pretty well set by this point.

I’ve been rooting for FL all along for my own selfish reasons but at this point I’m just praying for a game 7 OT ending for the ages.

I would agree, it will be a challenge to sign both Montour and Reinhart. I am guessing some team will step up big time for Montour being a RD. He is 30 so last chance for a big pay cheque.

Montreal was the last Canadian team to win, and should be the next one!

I'd settle for being the next one from the Original Six teams--and the Original Four provinces.
