dlbalr
My usual piece on the pick, including plenty of scouting reports: https://www.habsworld.net/2024/06/habs-select-ivan-demidov-5th-overall/ Sportsnet had a good piece on him the other day as well: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/scouts-analysis-why-ivan-demidov-is-the-no-2-prospect-at-the-nhl-draft/
JoeLassister
Pretty happy with that outcome. Go Habs Go !!!

Which, if true, is a giant HOLY SH*T!! for the rebuild
Commandant
I think he's better than Michkov.
Commandant
He's dynamic offence, with more size, and more defensive game and effort than Michkov
tomh009
One concern I've seen is his skating mechanics; I expect that the Habs feel that this is something that they can improve with appropriate instruction.
Habsfan89
And this is why you rebuild and not retool. Man our future looks great right now.

Agree 100%, no retool or reset. They needed to rebuild. I am excited about the future.
sbhatt
This is the player that I wanted....I can see light at the end of our low scoring era tunnel.
dlbalr
We'll be waiting a bit to see him in Montreal, he won't be attending development camp (which starts Tuesday) as he doesn't have a Canadian visa. https://montrealgazette.com/sports/hockey/nhl/hockey-inside-out/stu-cowan-nhl-draft-could-be-a-very-memorable-night-for-canadiens

Have to have the Tom cruise approach here. Asked how he was able to do a stunt when the "safety guy"didn't let him do a stunt - "I got a new safety guy who would"
Prime Minister Koivu
It sure sounds like the Habs expect Demidov to play the 25/26 season. I'm sure his KHL season will act as a barometer to determine NHL or AHL but I bet the expectations are NHL. I also wonder if this has any bearing on plans to add a top 6 forward this season? I'm still hearing they are also after McGroarty. I'm also hearing rumours on Ehlers. I think they would like a top 6 forward, but they want someone who is relatively young. I don't think we are looking at guys in their 30s. ... 27 or younger.

I was hoping for an announcement yesterday but still lots of time for a trade. I love this pic from yesterday. These guys are going to be dynamite together.

By the way, Engstrom and Mesar won't be there as well and I wonder about Reinbacher as I could see them telling him to take a pass considering he'll be playing in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament a couple of weeks before rookie camp. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Your morning trivia. Funny thing about #24…unlike any number over 30, or asinine football player numbers like 54 etc., it’s a small enough number to have been worn by Habs for generations. It’s an old-school number, therefore, but I was initially stumped to think of any iconic Habs who have worn it. Danault and Chelios (!) would be the highest profile predecessors to Demidov: https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/MTL/numbers.html
