If you look at the offer sheet in isolation, I'd rather have the first-round pick (without that Dvorak trade) than Kotkaniemi. That turned out to be a disaster of a season anyway, and, in retrospect, missing a centre wouldn't have made it any worse.

He didn't HAVE to ... but he did ... rendering the would "rather have the first-round pick" moot ... would rather have kept Sergachev, would rather have drafted Tzachuk or Hughes, would rather ............

The KK thing has been a debacle for Carolina. It looks good on those pukes. And who knows, the offer sheet may have saved us from locking KK up to a long-term deal. So: it worked out, even if idiot Bergevin wasted the picks. But it doesn't follow that we want to go tempting fate a second time. Indeed, a team with lots of young players on entry-level deals is probably the last team that should be going around offer-sheeting. All we need is for someone to retaliate with Guhle, say.

Ovechkin still scored more goals than Caufield after a dreadful start. I would have ranked him over Caufield as well. Of course I would rather have Caufield because of his age but just based on recent performance I can see taking Ovie.

How many of those were gifted empty-netters? Ovechkin is surely the slowest skater on the Caps, I would bet even Lindgren is faster than Ovechkin.

Sure he has slowed down a bit,  still he scored over 20 the last half of the year. Lindgren faster, I think you are exaggerating a bit now.

I was going to say exactly the same thing. They have improved their goaltending immensely and I believe Dougie Hamilton should be healthy and ready to go.

What team gets bumped to make room for Jersey?

 

Washington maybe but they added some players that could definitely help them be better - if PLD gets it together. 
 

Tampa a wildcard because they made some big changes and who knows if that works out for them

I do listen to the sick podcast but will avoid this one. I have no doubt Hughes would draft a Quebec player if they were the BPA. Why wouldn't he? He did draft a player who can speak French in the 1st round.

I would welcome the change.  I don't mind the shootout, but I'm an advocate that OT should be 2 points for a win, 1 for a loss and the shootout should be 1 for a win and 0 or 0.5 for a loss.  It's no longer a team game in the shootout, so incentivize winning without it.  An OT loss is equal to a shootout win, so just go for it in OT.

Some change to devalue shootout wins cant hurt.

How do Euro soccer leagues count shootouts for standings rankings?
