Habs Fan in Edmonton
What a crazy overtime game in Vegas last night. It had everything, tough break for Vegas on a missed call but it happens. I thought Eichel was outstanding last night but the Oilers secondary scoring kept them in the game. McDavid was held in check the entire night except for the play that ended it. Just a great game to watch!

That’s the thing about great players…you can keep them contained all night and they somehow still find a way to kill you. The Bruins in 1979, Game 7, had Guy Lafleur under wraps all game through relentless shadowing. He still killed them.

The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Add me as a fully paid-up charter member of the “anyone but the Leafs” club. Personally I don’t give a tinker’s fart about whether the Cup ends up in Canada, unless it’s in Montreal. In fact, if Ottawa won it would actively pain me, whereas the Cup being won by soulless franchises like Anaheim or Carolina only mildly irritates. But yes. Leafs winning is the ultimate worst-case scenario. It’d be like watching the opening sequences of “Fallout” or “Last of Us.”

But if still like to be the first Canadian team since us to win. Between oilers and jets, I’d rather have the jets win. My choice is Stars though. I like what Nill has done in Dallas. I’d also like the Avs to feel the same pain in dealing Rantanan as we did dealing Roy/

He’s one of the all-time greats and his story won’t feel properly told without winning one. 🤷♂️ As for Dallas, I’ve heard concerns raised about their blueline, but it does feel like it’s “time” for a franchise that has quietly been elite for several years. I hate the flames and would root for oilers over flames Everytime. But three reasons I don’t want the oilers to win: 1) I have a few oilers fans who will go on forever about another oilers cup. 2) just hate to see a team that tanked for as long as they did be rewarded. 3) after the whole Hawks scandal/jr t am Canada scandals, don’t want to see a team that hires guys like Nicholson and Bowman succeed (ditto now with Anaheim). DON
NHL coach hiring trends, by the numbers: How many retreads? Longest tenures? - The Athletic "The past two seasons have been remarkable in terms of coach turnover — even by NHL standards. Eight coaches were hired last summer, and another five were fired (and hired) in-season." "That trend is holding true after the conclusion of the 2024-25 regular season. Since the regular season ended, another eight positions have become available."
BCHabnut
After the leafs get knocked out, I would love to see the zero state tax teams knocked out. Can't cheer against Florida because we need them to demoralize the Leaves. But Dallas and Vegas can both piss off this round. Especially Vegas with their special treatment of the Lehner contract, special draft rules, and no state tax. Go Oilers.

Perfect example of quantity or quality is a bad move. You don’t move elite players so you can have more depth.

His underlying stats were always great, he was just snake bit in terms of his, and his linemates finishing. Whjch always suggested this was puck luck and not some reduction in his ability or being carried by MacKinnon. This is why you trust the underlying numbers.

GHT120
Borrowed (flipped some columns and eliminated a few for ease of reference) the below table from Frank Seravalli's article Panthers playoff hero Brad Marchand cements spot in Top 50 Free Agents ... it was produced by AFP Analytics predicting UFA contracts for Daily Faceoff's Top 50 free agents ... Seravalli mentions that have had a fair bit of success doing this ... figured it would be useful/interesting.

I think I'd have won the final week had I made the trade given how much my team fell off a cliff. However, I don't think I'd have gotten to the final week had I made the trade as some of the guys going the other way wound up with big weeks in the quarters/semis. So in the end, it's hard to regret the decision.

Then again, I always just assume some jackanapse GM will commit to massive overpay. If we can get Granlund at 2 X5, we certainly should do that.
