Samoskevich isn't eligible for an offer sheet so they won't have to worry about that.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess he hasn't played enough NHL games to qualify? I will have to look up the rules.

Not so much NHL games but games in enough seasons.  As he signed out of college and burned a year right away, he didn't play in the required 10 games in 2022-23 to accrue a year toward offer sheet eligibility.  That same rule prevents both Hutson and Demidov from getting one when their deals are up as well.

Thats correct, but we are also Assuming the New CBA has the same rule when they hit RFA.

Thanks for the info, so Florida has to sign Samoskevich, likely a back up goalie and maybe another 4th liner. Perhaps 15-16m to sign their high profile UFA's. Don't see how they sign Marchand, his last chance to sign for big bucks.  I can see the Leafs signing Marchand if Marner walks.

I think Ekblad is gone and they knew it when they traded for.Jones.

Perhaps, if Ekblad is gone then they can probably resign Marchand. It will be an interesting couple of weeks on the hockey front and then likely really boring.

Seattle trade's for Joe Veleno. Not a blockbuster, but it could signal that they are about to move a Center. They were already overflowing at Center (of the top 6 variety), so it was expected that they would be moving one, but with this move it looks like it's even more likely, now...

Shayne Wright is coming to Montreal?

Veleno had 17 points last year and has one season in his career with more than 20 points (28 is his career high)

I dont think this was really about acquiring a centre.  More like dumping Burasovsky and gaining 3.23 million in cap space.

Maybe, but he also fills a bottom 6 role at the position. This does make sense if they are planning on moving one of their upper level Centers to make room for Wright in their top 6 without leaving a vacancy in the bottom.

They already did that.  Yanni Gourde at the deadline.

Their 4Cs are Beniers, Wright, Stephenson, Veleno.

Haha missed this part. McCann is one of those C's that mights make for a better winger. But technically is often still thought of as a Center.

It wouldn't surprise me if Veleno is bought out (at a 1/3 rate) if the Kraken can't flip him over the next week or so.  That would simply make it Seattle was able to clear the majority of Burakovsky's cumbersome contract without having to incentivize or retain on the contract to move it.  That'd be a decent outcome in a market where not a lot of teams are willing to take on bad contracts at the moment.

Yes, that's true. But that still leaves Stephenson, McCann, Beneers and Wright. I still assume that one more is on its way out, that's my guess.

McCann has mostly been on the wing.  Which actually helps them as they can provide 6 pretty decent wingers for those 3 Cs.

They also have another high end centre prospect in Catton. Berniers isn’t going anywhere. So they may move Stephenson or Wright and would probably want to keep a veteran… so maybe there is an opportunity to get Wright.

Why do people think they are moving Wright when he had an outstanding second half last year? I see no reason for them to move a 20 year old C who just found his game.

Thafs a pipe dream IMO.

Catton is also a guy who might be a winger at the NHL level

When did McCann last play C on a regular basis? Could we acquire him and use him there, or has that ship sailed? Seattle seems to have a surplus at C, so perhaps his move to W was a result of that rather than his inherent weakness in the role?

Hes never taken 600 faceoffs in a season.

His last time taking 500 was 2020.

The Flyers are nearing a deal to acquire forward Trevor Zegras from the Ducks, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Anaheim will receive center Ryan Poehling, the Blue Jackets’ 2025 second-round pick (No. 45 overall), and Philadelphia’s 2026 fourth-rounder in return, Friedman adds. The Flyers have since made the trade official.
