dlbalr
That was the easy one, now they need to get a head coach. Also, Arnaud Durandeau (UFA) is off to the KHL.

I don't get hiring an assistant before hiring a head coach. Wouldn't the head coach want some input on the assistant?

I suspect the head coach is going to be a raw rookie like St. Louis was where he won't have any input on the staff, at least for the first year. dlbalr
Laval signs winger Alex Beaucage to a one-year, one-way deal. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/412976/alex-beaucage Riley McKay has signed with Henderson while John Parker-Jones has signed with Ontario. Even with Arsenault coming in, I thought they might bring back one of those two.

The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Pascal Vincent is the new head coach. Seems like a sound choice. https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/pascal-vincent-appointed-head-coach-of-the-laval-rocket?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=CHCcontent&utm_content=EN-0716-PascalVincent&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1liy3vu29zMhjWmaDBckxMzumxDSbmRwYvNA4vdm0wZ8om4AydQfNRQ1A_aem_ZhsBVELJhlj6ut_HFDgSuA

Prime Minister Koivu
"Dear Rocket & Canadiens fans, I'm Pascal Vincent & I'm the new head coach of the Laval Rocket. I'm really happy to be back home but also to join a prestigious organization with the Habs family. I can't wait to meet all of you in Laval in October. See you soon.” - Pascal Vincent
GHT120
EXCELLENT hire ... 11 years as a HC in the QMJHL ... 5 seasons as a HC in the AHL ... 7 years as an assistant coach in the NHL (split 5/2 around his AHL stint) ... and ... one year as a HC in the NHL. (I'm sure Columbus isn't getting big savings on the offset.) I thought he'd wait out the year and try to land an assistant job in the NHL. This is an interesting hire. Lots of experience but I believe Jets and Blue Jackets fans really didn't like him. He's not known for playing the youngsters but in Laval, he won't have much of a choice with how many youngsters they have.

I think he coaches differently based on the circumstances (and what the bosses are asking of him). In Columbus he had to win to keep his job (and obviously didn't win enough to do that), so of course he was relying on vets more than development. I don't know that this will be how he coaches in Laval.

alfredoh2009
I am happy for thé Laval Rocket. this is an upgrade on JF Houle and a decent candidate down the road to replace Marty once he runs his course
JoeLassister
Does his coaching style fits the ones MSL has with the Habs ? I like when farm teams play about the same system as their NHL team so when players come up, they fit right in the same system, know the plays, etc.

This reporter question and Vincent’s reply doesn’t matter much but it fits the conversation: Reporter: “During your interview, did you have any questions on if eventually the head coaching job is available in MTL, if you’d have any priority & be considered for the role?” Pascal Vincent: “Absolutely not. Marty will be in MTL, I will be in Laval, we will be “teammates…”

MSL may turn out to be one of those rare Lindy Ruff-type coaches who stay in the big chair for a generation, but the odds are that he will crap out at some point in the team’s attempt to pivot toward Cup contention. Always important to have a high-end French-speaking coach in the AHL ready to assume the reins.

PV is far from a perfect NHL coach, but he will get an excellent chance to prepare if he wants to become one
