dlbalr
Struble has been sent to Laval on a conditioning stint so he'll presumably play in at least the next two on the road. That will help cover for Trudeau's short-term absence at least. The assignment can last for up to two weeks.

DON
Logan Mailloux Has Outstanding 3 PT Game- Scores Huge Goals in Wild Finish -Laval Highlights 1-24-25 4-3 Win Laval Rocket @ Hartford Wolf Pack Friday, January 24, 2025 | TheAHL.com | The American Hockey League Logan Mailloux shines as Laval Rocket topple Wolf Pack late "Joining them was Jayden Struble who had been sent down to the AHL on a conditioning assignment earlier in the day. Struble joined Adam Engström on the Rocket’s top pairing. " " A turnover at the offensive blue line turned into an odd-man rush for Jared Davidson and Filip Mešár, with the rookie Slovak opting to pass off rather than shoot the puck. Mešár dropped it back for Beck who made up for his earlier penalty as he ripped his shot past Domingue to put Laval back on top." "Xavier Simoneau was a rabid honey badger on the pair of kills, fighting for every loose puck and creating short-handed havoc on every single shift." Just getting started. Dobes is playing like the Hamburgler and he may be the real thing. Primeau is showing some potential again, but he has not been able to establish himself in the NHL as a backup: I believe that he does not know yet how to manage playing sporadically. Montembeault has been consistent but to me he has not shown he is a straong #1. He is good, but not great. Picking any of the two and trading the other will be a difficult decision
DON
Logan Mailloux plays overtime hero for Laval Rocket once again "...A great defensive play by Logan Mailloux at one end allowed the Rocket to transition into the Providence zone with speed, as Barré-Boulet teed up Mailloux for a shot, Mailloux’s stick shattered in his hands. Mailloux went to grab a fresh twig from the bench, with the Bruins looking to exit the zone, but a deft steal by Barré-Boulet became a breakaway chance. DiPietro stopped him cold, but Dauphin grabbed the loose puck and found a wide-open Mailloux. For a second straight game it was Mailloux burying the game-winner to secure a second point for Laval on the road."

There are also some players who are excellent in the AHL but just cannot adapt to the NHL well enough to become regular players.
Commandant
Reality is that he's an RFA in July, I doubt he's going to get a QO given that Fowler could be signed after the college season.

I’d agree with Commando here. This blog piece came out just 30 mins ago… https://awinninghabit.com/what-is-the-canadiens-next-move-with-cayden-primeau Its like in Bull Durham… at the end Crash was let go because the organization was going in a different direction and the head office wanted to go with an up and coming new catcher…. Crash went to another team to finish out his career… We can’t keep all the goalies… and we need to make room for a shiny new toy. Now our three choices are Monty, Dobeš and Fowler, not Monty, Primeau and Dobes. You played Dobeš and Primeau a ton here to see what you got… Dobeš has looked good, and Primeau too. Dobes is doing it in NHL though… Primeau can now be traded without concern. If Dobes was failing, Primeau could have been sent back up. If Primeau isn't tradeable, he will NOT receive a QO - expect a red carpet to the Rocket crease for Fowler.

Otherwise, their depth would be incredibly thin which would be cause for concern.

Sign Hughes or someone else or find a back up… Fowler is 90% coming.

Big time players who are about to be UFA are worth third picks for stars and later picks for good NHLers. A guy who sucked in the Habs net isn't gonna get even a 7th. You can always use pylons. Monty is not being one so far tonight. Playing alright.
