Guhle also might be the RD with Mattheson which is where he ended last season

That's where I think he ultimately lands.  From the article:

As things stand, the Canadiens only have two right-shot defenders who appear to be locked into a roster spot, David Savard and Justin Barron (whose waiver eligibility locks him in).  Barring a rookie making it, one of the lefties is going to have to move over. Guhle is probably the early favourite to do so and if that happens, he’ll likely play big minutes on the top pairing with Mike Matheson.

The part Don pulled was the hypothetical where a different lefty moves over or one of Mailloux/Reinbacher makes the team.  In that case, Guhle is behind Matheson as the 2 LD.

Interesting… Hockey DB has him 6’3

David Reinbacher

Defense -- shoots R
Born Oct 25 2004 -- Hohenems, Austria
[19 yrs. ago]
Height 6.03 -- Weight 209[191 cm/95 kg]

Generally speaking, Hockey DB rarely updates their heights/weights over the years which has led to some significant discrepancies.  That said, this aligns with the height/weight from the Habs which might be a first.

I was watching Marinaro's podcast recently where he and McCagg were talking about Reinbacher and McCagg said he had definitely grown so it will be interesting to see how he measures up at camp.

I noticed that they also have his height in centimetres 191.

191 cm translates to 6’2.66” so they rounded up.

We should find out soon

And Slafkovski dropped 8lbs last summer, will he come in leaner again?

Like most, they say he has been training hard, was noted working out with with Erik Cernak.

Funny that both Slovaks are listed at 6'3" 230lbs.

Rookie camp roster.

Which Dman impresses the most? I can’t wait

"Better be" one of Lane Hutson, Logan Mailloux, or David Reinbacher or much of the fanbase's heads will explode ... either because the Habs found an unexpected HoFer or because the sky is falling.

I'm pretty confident that one of those three are making the team.

Best case scenario is that all three look ready for the NHL. Worst case is Hutson or Reinbacher look bad and then the sky would indeed be falling.

We know his coach is biased, but sounds good to me

https://rg.org/news/hockey/olli-jokinen-oliver-kapanen-can-steal-a-spot-at-canadiens-camp

“He’s been too good for our league so far this preseason; playing like a dominant force in every single game. He’s been great offensively, scoring some goals, but also defensively and in the faceoff circle, which will be his biggest advantage going into Montreal. He’s the type of player you can put anywhere, because his hockey sense is very high.”

Ncaa. Don't think they can attend.

I think technically they can but only if they pay their own way and stay for a very limited amount of time.  It's extremely rare for NCAA players to attend as a result.

It does sound very good. Could the Habs have too many good centres in a couple years with Beck and Hage also coming up? What a nice problem that would be.

There is one more issue, players can't attend if their classes have started.

Damn right.  It definitely seems like the Habs will have numerous lines with more than 1 C on it and that will be great in the playoffs when the Refs kick the C out of the faceoff for no reason.

Anyone have a clue what to expect from Laine?

25g20a or something like that?

Getting the most out of Patrik Laine (habseyesontheprize.com)

"...Four years later, if we look at Laine’s heat maps from his Columbus tenure, his scoring from the right side and high slot have largely vanished. Instead of the multifaceted rover drafted second overall in 2016, the Blue Jackets’ version was a one-dimensional one-timer machine..."

He was a PPG player for two seasons in Columbus, so 80 points is a reasonable projection IF he stays healthy.

He’s at a point in his career where he can either put it all together and become a mature star player, or he can sort of crap out and amble along as a nice secondary piece who never fulfilled his potential. He’s sought and received help for his mental health issues, he has a fresh start in a star-powered market, and the mix between ‘pressure to produce’ and ‘just having fun’ is still pretty tilted to the latter. This is his big chance to re-establish himself as elite.

But we have no way to know if he can do it. The evidence strongly suggests, though, that even ‘meh’ Laine is still a darned productive player when healthy.

We have to assume that St. Louis will give Laine PP time and significant game minutes.

The only other big factor for Laine will be his centre. If that is Dach for the season then I feel comfortable expecting 80 points.

If Marty puts Laine on the Dvorak line then I expect significantly fewer points but St. Louis probably won’t do that.

I can’t see Laine starting the season anywhere but top six. And the top line should be untouchable so he will surely be on the second line, at least for a while. The real question is who the second winger will be with him and Dach.
