Tried to put on a little bit of weight and just felt not as quick, so I like where I’m at now.” Encouraging! I think he needs to figure out a way to stop getting thumped so badly. I think he's doing the right thing. Gaining 10 lbs will not help him avoid hits, better mobility might. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Regarding Guhle’s weight, he never struck me as a guy who was pushed around or manhandled down low (?). Maybe he didn’t really need extra muscle.

If running lighter helps him do that, then perfect, because he doesn't seem to get overpowered in his own end at this weight. I just wish he didn't have to play with the gambler on his wrong side. He is fine over there. More than fine. But I saw glimpses of stud when he was on his natural side and feeling the game.
Prime Minister Koivu
Guhle gets beaten and thumped hard every game. I thought he needed more muscle to deal with it because he plays a physical game. The Sportsnet article demonstrates that Guhle is aware of the problem and is working on it. It’s not the muscle I care about, it’s Guhle not getting thumped so much. Hopefully his work on this will pay off this season.
Prime Minister Koivu
I expect Roy to be called up at some point but he had a poor camp and maybe this is a kick in the pants that the kid needs

Habs Fan in Edmonton
I guess Roy is a bit of a surprise but he was never guaranteed a spot and obviously didn't have a great camp. Mailloux had to stand out and he was ok but ok wasn't good enough especially because Barron wouldn't get through waivers. I like Heineman's potential and he can play a physical game. Let's get the season going!!
Prime Minister Koivu
Opening lines: Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky Newhook - Dach - Heineman Kapanen - Dvorak - Armia Gallagher - Evans - Anderson Barre-Boulet/Pezzetta Matheson - Guhle Hutson - Savard Xhekaj - Struble Barron I don’t think St. Louis will agree with me and I expect Anderson to be on the second line unfortunately. I sincerely hope that Marty doesn’t give Anderson as much rope this season.
Butterface
Stu Cowan had practice line up as: Juraj Slafkovsky – Nick Suzuki – Cole Caufield Alex Newhook – Kirby Dach – Joel Armia Alex Barré-Boulet – Christian Dvorak – Josh Anderson Emil Heineman – Jake Evans – Brendan Gallagher Extra forwards: Michael Pezzetta and Oliver Kapanan DEFENCE Mike Matheson – Kaiden Guhle Lane Hutson – David Savard Arber Xhekaj – Justin Barron Therapy day: Jayden Struble
Prime Minister Koivu
Struble having a therapeutic day so not sure if he would be in the lineup or not.

Let's get the season going!! I would think if Mailloux was given an opportunity to force management's hand and didn't deliver, he was rightly sent down so as not to risk Barron on waivers. Roy is a suprise but, he is just as young as Heinemen and Kapanan, so if they stepped up in preseason and Roy didn't deliver during preseason why should it be any different? Because he put up 9 points in 23 games LY and has great IQ and high ceiling?

Sounds like work ethic to me and Roy did put on 9lbs this offseason. Perhaps that wasn’t muscle weight he added. I do expect Roy to work his way back to Montreal

Hopefully it doesn’t refer to his skills - if so that would be a pretty fundamental criticism!

Poor choice of words (or an imprecise shortcut) ... I meant that he didn't adjust the execution of his skills to the speed/level of the NHL game ... could also be a matter of confidence in using his skills ... didn't mean his not having the basic skills

tomh009
Closing quote from Slafkovsky in Arpon Basu's excellent in-depth piece on him: “People always want to have winners on their teams,” he said. “I’d rather have a winner that scores five less goals than some loser that just focuses on scoring 40 goals.” He's very much driven to win. Butterface
1-0 Things could not have gone much better. A power play goal. A shutout versus the Leafs. Could have been less shots on net against and less post/crossbar action behind Montembeault. Less penalties against. But a win is a win. Did not see anything out of place or poor games by anyone specifically. Obviously Montembeault shone. So did Stolarz. We made him work. Calgary won. Which is good in small doses. Did we get Hutson on the ice during our 5 on 3 ? We seemed to be playing on the perimeter of that 5 on 3…. Hated every moment of it. Boston will be fun Thursday night. I can only assume Primeau plays. We need to keep the shots against down and score on Swayman. Heard Boston’s defence is their weak area. Edited October 10 by Butterface I need to proof read more

I agree 100% about the 5 on 3, it was painful to watch just passing the puck around the outside and not creating anything, I think Hutson would have shone in that situation. Last night was great as far as the result goes but they were dominated for long stretches and gave up too many quality chances. Not sure if Swayman is playing, if he is he may be a little rusty. It's early.
