This is a really cool stat with lots of interesting data. It compares each player’s offensive zone entry. Carrying the puck over the blue line, dump and chase and failures.

Hutson for example carries the puck over the blue line every single time and has a 50% success rate.

Caufield carries the puck, dumps and has a decent failure rate.

Slafkovsky likes to carry the puck but will dump, decent success rate.

Armia has 100% success rate

Nice write up by Basu on lil Lane;

"...Hutson spoke to only 16 teams at the combine that year, meaning half the league couldn’t even have been bothered to talk to him ahead of the NHL Draft, let alone entertain the thought of drafting him."

"— and coach Martin St. Louis was asked roughly 80 questions about Hutson after the game because, as Cole Caufield said, “He deserves all that hype.”"

"An NHL rookie is expected to adjust to the NHL, adjust to his teammates. It is exceedingly rare to hear an NHL coach, one that is in the Hockey Hall of Fame as a player, state that the NHL players the rookie is playing with need to adjust to the rookie."

Lane Hutson predicted Canadiens wouldn’t care about his size. He’s proved himself right - The Athletic (nytimes.com)

Roy coming back already? Probably not

Mailloux getting a call up?

I think it's simply a case of Kapanen/Heinemann having more upside and Marty deciding to give them more ice time which I am happy about.

My brain forgot about Pezzetta. I was thinking there is no way they would go without an extra forward so someone must be coming.

Agree about Heineman and Kapanen, I really like them both

Something I just realized is that Monday games are not broadcast through centre ice nor Sportsnet plus nor TSN

It looks like it is broadcast from Amazon Prime only.

The French version seems to be available through regular channels fortunately.

I think this is the realization that the youngsters need more regular minutes (while Pezzetta will have to play at some point) and carrying 14 forwards doesn't make a lot of sense at this point.  I don't think there's a follow-up move coming; there doesn't need to be unless they want an extra d-man with Struble still not 100%.  (They could simply IR Struble to do that though.)

Rogers has the exclusivity deal in Canada, but Amazon could definitely work a deal for redistribution rights.  The sad thing is I guarantee Amazon would do a better job than Rogers with streaming the games.

Rogers sold off the Monday package to Amazon for the next two years.  It's an entirely different production, PBP crew (John Forslund is the PBP voice).  As someone who doesn't have Prime, I'm happy RDS still has the game tonight at least.

Sadly, this means there is no streaming option that covers all the Habs games. October, November, December, January and April each have one Habs game on Prime only, five games in total.

The French version should be available on Sportsnet plus because it’s available on centre ice.

Both are the RDS feed

No takers for Barre-Boulet on waivers so he's off to Laval: https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/alex-barre-boulet-loaned-to-the-laval-rocket-oct-14

Perhaps why they kept him for a couple of games ... other teams are somewhat less likely to disrupt their roster once it is set to open the season.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. It's not like they didn't know what they had with ABB, he has been around.

Slaf definitely seems to have the quiet swagger and drive - almost the sense of personal destiny - that you want to see from a young star and #1 overall pick. The fact that he is treated like a celebrity in Slovakia probably helps position him to deal with pressure and the general Montreal insanity.

Of course, that still has to translate into results. But it's nice to see.

It might have been easier to run him through with 59 others the day before rosters were due.  I think they gave him a look and quickly realized Heineman and Kapanen are better fits and rather than have him sit a bunch, they waived him.

Not a trend yet ... let's wait until we ave at least ten games on the books.

Or otherwise we should be declaring Montembeault as the leading Vezina candidate, too.
