Canadiens add another embarrassing loss to the ledger, but this one seems less meaningful - The Athletic

"Is this the moment everyone’s been waiting for? The moment the Canadiens’ bubble bursts, the moment that proves the past month has been a mirage, the moment this bottom-dwelling team goes back to where it belongs?

Probably not."

"Because the way the Canadiens dominated over the first 30 minutes might have been the best 30 minutes of hockey they’ve played all season."

"...he made a tremendous save on Bobby McMann immediately before the Ekman-Larsson goal and another tremendous save on Nylander alone in the slot immediately after that goal.

It’s just that Joseph Woll was better than him at the other end of the ice."

and million dollar question;

“The challenge is really tomorrow,” defenceman Alexandre Carrier said. “How we can turn the page tonight, focus on the first period, how we played, how we came out and go do that tomorrow night.”

Hated the trade the moment I heard about it. Hope we slam the door on his ass hard on his way out!

I’m no fan, but, really, you cannot blame Dvorak for making that trade!

Why not?? It was a move made out of desperation. Good GM’s don’t put themselves in positions where they have to make moves out of desperation. First off all you know Weber is done. You let Daneult walk over $500k. Don’t get KK signed and he gets an offer sheet. Know Price is probably done.

That wasn’t the time overpay for a guy who was not a legit top 2 centre.

It was mot Dvorak that made the trade, it was Bergevin. Dvorak had no choice in the matter.

Doesn't mean anyone has to be happy about having him on the team ... and Dvorak is responsible for how he performs on the ice.

All I said was, don't blame him for the trade.

The blowout doesn't necessarily mean the Habs are a mirage. It's not atypical of emerging young teams to fall on their faces now and then. My hope is that this disaster is a good learning experience, rather than the moment it all blows up.

That is exactly what you said, sometimes posters here like to twist things and add stuff.  On the other hand maybe Dvorak went to Arizona management and demanded a trade to the Habs???

Here is Dvorak2.0+ getting callled up and will be an upgrade on Pezzetta;

https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/montreal-canadiens-recall-owen-beck-laval-rocker-roster-move-habs/

"Beck’s versatility will likely provide more balance to the lineup, filling a role vacated by Emil Heineman’s absence and also giving the team an additional face-off option in all situations."

Of course, ClickBait30 spinning it as Hughes "getting a look" at Beck before deciding whether to trade Evans ... couldn't be as simple as the best choice to call up.

Yeah I’m sure it’s the latter.

Beck looked timid in the first

Beck played 8 minutes tonight and I barely noticed him. I take that as a good thing, actually, as the player he replaced was often noticeable for not-so-good reasons. It feels as though it would be difficult for anyone to enter the recently structured Habs without disrupting team chemistry. He could certainly get his feet under him after a few games.

Evans don't seem to be as good since Heineman went down

Hes playing the same.  Just he was on an insane run of unsustainable shooting percentage and now goalies are stopping his shots l, breakaways, and even a penalty shot.

That shooting percentage going back to normal doesnt change what hes doing on the ice though.

Similar to Lehkonen, playing with better players allows players like them to do better

Agreed. It's just that his usual work is much less noticeable to most of the fans than the scoring.

Pezzetta was a boat anchor on that line, and Beck seemed to play afraid to make a mistake. He was not as direct/incisive as in the AHL

Must of been a fun game for Beck to experience.

8:13 11 shifts 1 hit 1 giveaway

Just 2 shifts in 3rd, but also was his 3rd game in 3 nights, so no surprise.

I think he is as good, minus the unrealistic shooting percentage.  But it does show how important Heineman was to that line. He's an NHLer on any team.
