Not a proposal or a rumour ... but if the Habs, or anyone else for that matter, have plans to make a deal during the 4Nations it would seem logical to make it tomorrow or Wednesday ... take advantage of the player having a couple of days (assuming they aren't on Canada or USA teams) to get to Montreal and meet team-mates/coaches/trainers/etc. and get short-term settled.

I honestly thought we'd have seen a deal or two by now (the STL/PIT AHL swap doesn't count) for that reason alone, giving newcomers ample practice time.  Teams have probably been told not to overshadow the 4 Nations though.

Makes tomorrow and Wednesday the perfect time to do it (???) ... as long as no Canada/USA players involved.

Demidov has 13min/TOI average.

Every other player in the top 10 of scoring is averaging close to 20min.

This kid is going to be a treat.

Is it boorish to ask, if the kid is so great, why his ice time is so low? 🤷‍♂️

Not trolling, honestly curious

What I’m seeing, hearing about the Canadiens near NHL trade deadline - The Athletic

"The most interesting part of the Canadiens’ game in Ottawa on Saturday was not necessarily seeing Juraj Slafkovský go beast mode – though that was certainly important – but rather seeing defenceman Jayden Struble paired with Lane Hutson."

https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/juraj-slafkovsky-analysis-stats-should-we-be-worried-development-offence-defence-shooting-skating-speed-decision-making/

"skating speed is another concern, which goes back to something our colleague Hadi Kalakeche has spoken about. We don’t see Slafkovský using bursts of speed to solve problems this year. His pass-first mentality leads him to slow down with the puck rather than try to pick up speed, scanning for the best option. This both limits his ability to beat defenders one-on-one and facilitates opposing checkers catching him and forcing a bad pass or turning it into a puck battle. He doesn’t have that stick-handle-in-a-phone-booth gene, so he plays directly into the hands of defenders when he slows himself down."

Hes back. yaah!

A very detailed scouting report on Beck - it's free for about 24 more hours or so:  https://www.mckeenshockey.com/nhl-blog/ahl-owen-beck-c-laval-rocket-montreal-canadiens-detailed-scouting-report-video-grades/

That is a very positive scouting report. My own interpretation of the report makes me think that Beck is similar to Suzuki.

Maybe it’s possible Beck does hit 2C potential

It is a very positive scouting report. Hard to say at this point what his ceiling is but his floor I would think is a very good 3C. But he still has to do it at the NHL level.

Making the best of a bad situation - Dach’s injury is going to give Montreal a very close look at Beck as second line centre for 20 games and I’m pretty excited about that.

I hope the kid catches fire there

Yes. Good Point about Struble. Since coming down from the press box Struble has looked better than ever actually. Outplaying X and Carrier and Savard imo. Nobody is talking about it - But this has been his best stretch of hockey. It’s also been Savard’s  worst stretch as a Hab imo. Time for a trade.

The RDS guys keep talking about Savard as if he is some mighty leader. Yes, yes, he’s been a warrior, but he’s well past his best-by date. I have no problem shipping him out.

I have a strong feeling Savard won't be traded simply because the best they can likely get for him now is a 3rd round pick and that is probably with retention so Hughes will likely keep him. I don't think a 3rd round pick is enough to entice Hughes to part with him as he has plenty of those already.

and that is the reason I do not want to see him in Montreal this season. I've posted this on other threads.

I want him to continue improving in Laval, pushing in the playoffs for a Calder cup. Playing in all situations

It could also have something to do with playing with Hutson, no?

When a lead-footed fella loses 1/2 a step is not good; but does have a ring, is an "elite' shot blocker and is a RH-d, so maybe get offered a 3rd at best?

Struble does seem to have some puck smarts and can skate, kinda hope he gets a regular shift till end of season and agree being with Hutson cant hurt one bit.

I look at the minutes played and say that while there is no doubt they have played well together so far, its a very small sample size.

That said I can say how it works, Struble is very athletic, a good skater. He can simply cover a lot of ice and play defensively when paired with someone like Hutson.  He keeps things very simple and just focuses on stopping attacks and getting the puck out of the defensive zone with possession.  He isn't asked to contribute much of anything offensively and that lets him focus on using all of that athleticism defensively.  It simplifies things to not have to worry about the offensive end at all.
