2025 NHL Entry Draft

Recommended Posts

I guess am biased against Q-players, Kidney & Roy lit up the Q and neither looking like will be a good pro.

Also was said, he struggled in Q-playoff series, but he still had 3g in 5 games?

Just 'seems' are better options to go with in Habs range.

Anyone see him play and are a fan of Carbonneau being picked by Habs?

Q the weakest league by far. Look at Lafreniere? Carbonneau I have as no draft.

Montreal interviewed Nesbitt a lot. Not sure what that means? He said they like his size and toughness.

Aitcheson is money player. Good for playoffs. Had 9 of his 26 goals were game winners. But left D is our last need.

Brady Martin reeked character in his interview. He be guy to get but will go early. I am higher on him than Desnoyers.

mrtka and bear would be awesome picks imo

Back to back picks is intriguing.

Especially given almost every pick from 9-15 has been rumoured (Basu The Athletic)  to be available in trade and Habs might not find a trade partner for their extra pick?

That does seem like a great draft.  I’m just happy we have a great gm , scouting team and development group.  I feel they are gonna make the right decision and develop our prospects the right way.  Gonna be a fun draft.

Really hope the NHL decides to yank the draft from LA due to the riots.

If they do, I’m jumping on a plane and heading out there.

Preferably Vegas again.

Comparing 2024 top ten to2025  top 10 ranked

How do 2025 NHL Draft’s best prospects compare with 2024’s top 10? - The Athletic

1. Macklin Celebrini, C, 2024 draft
Macklin Celebrini is clearly on a level of his own compared to this peer group, which was the case going into his draft, but it remains that way with the 2025 draft and, in hindsight, compared to how the 2024 draftees have developed a year later as well.

2. Matthew Schaefer, LHD, 2025 draft
3. Ivan Demidov, RW, 2024 draft
Ivan Demidov had a fantastic KHL season and is trending toward being a star scoring winger in the NHL. Comparing him to Matthew Schaefer would be reasonable, but my lean would still be toward the potential No. 1 defenseman."

...

BIG is better!

Canadiens likely to continue mining NHL Draft for size and physicality - The Athletic

"...The Canadiens pick again at No. 41 and No. 49, and that might be too late to grab some of the other guys who fit that goal, including William Moore or William Horcoff.

But we’ve heard the Canadiens have shown a fair amount of interest in one player who might be right in that second-round wheelhouse. Telling his story is more illustrative than predictive, because he fits a certain type — the Canadiens type.

His name is Matthew Gard."

Given that it's two weeks away, if they had to pull it from that venue, they'd probably be going to a virtual format as the odds of finding a theatre/arena with ample hotel capacity on virtually no notice would probably be asking too much let alone refunding all the LA tickets and selling thousands of new tickets in a matter of days.

Seems like a nice option if available.

2025 Draft Profile: Carter Bear – HabsWorld.net

"...a comment by Everett GM Mike Fraser, who said Montreal Canadiens scouts and management were in person to watch Bear at least ten games this season."

Canadiens Should Target Henry Brzustewicz in the 2nd Round of the 2025 NHL Draft - The Hockey Writers - Montreal Canadiens - NHL News, Analysis & More

Luckily, Montreal has the ammunition to move up. With three third-round picks and a deep prospect pool, they have the flexibility to package a third with pick 41 and slide up a few spots to ensure they get their guy.

Brzustewicz might not carry the same hype as other defencemen in this draft class, but he brings a lot of qualities the Canadiens should value: intelligence, reliability, winning pedigree, and the potential to become a key piece in their blue line group. You don’t need to hit a home run with every pick. Drafting Brzustewicz in the second round feels like that kind of play.

If Montreal can’t find a hockey trade with some of there early trades, I could seem them using both 2nd rounders to move up into the late first round.   Does anyone have a good draft list with tiers of the quality prospect groups.

Roger McQueen... What a cool name.

We have to get him! 😁🤪

Is a top-ten dude, but perhaps Hughes can swing a deal and move up to grab him.

On talent, a top 10 prospect but hasnt played much due to a back injury.  He could fall depending on what his medical shows.

But if hes falling due to a bad back do we want him?

If the back is fine, he doesn't get to us at 16

Its the type of thing teams will know and fans wont

Seems are & might be some teams willing to trade their picks, but not for adding Habs picks and more for a roster player.

Maybe can trade a pick(s) to a contender lacking picks for prospect/young-NHLer.

What I heard and saw from the Canadiens at the NHL scouting combine - The Athletic

"... The problem is that the Vancouver Canucks hold the No. 15 pick, and they are also seeking a centre for their second line. They reportedly didn’t even send general manager Patrik Allvin to the NHL scouting combine last week, which at least gives the impression that the pick is as good as gone.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have the Nos. 14 and 20 picks, and GM Don Waddell has already stated that both picks are available for the right price. Would the Detroit Red Wings consider trading the No. 13 pick if it gave them a better chance to make the playoffs and stay there for good? You’d have to think they would.

So, the three teams picking immediately ahead of the Canadiens in the first round potentially have those picks for sale. If you were a team offering up some immediate help and looking for at least a first-round pick in return, which one of those picks would you prefer? The worst one? Probably not.

You could also add the Buffalo Sabres’ pick at No. 9 to that market, as well as the Anaheim Ducks’ pick at No. 10 and perhaps even the Utah Mammoth’s pick at No. 4, although that is likely a different market altogether."

All.those.teams willing to trade is.cause after about 7 or 8 guys, the draft is garbage.

Which is also.why its unlikely any one will take an offer of the habs 2 first rounders to get a top 7 or 8 pick.  Even in a normal year this is rare.  With this draft class its just a lopsided deal.

To compare.  A guy like Hage is going probably about 10th in this draft.

Is garbage the right word?  Perhaps there is a significant fall off after 7 or 8 but there will be some gems found after 7 or 8 for sure. The scouts have to be on their game.

Most teams will say they are willing to trade their pick which means they will trade if there is a significant over payment which is why trading picks in the 1st round rarely happens.
