Commandant
He's a 17 year old kid. I'm not worried about him making a bad decision on a teddy bear toss. This doesn't come close to other character concerns (racism, sexual assault, etc....) that we see in other 17 year olds drafted in recent years. BCHabnut
I thought a 2 game suspension was a bit over the top. Surely a scolding would have been sufficient.

He has fantastic puck touch; pucks are on and off his stick in a hurry from high danger scoring areas in the offensive zone) and just one later is Anton Frondell (C, 6-feet, 196 pounds, Djurgardens (Allsvenskan), "one of the most elite shooters in this draft class"). Two later is Roger McQueen (C, 6-foot-5, 197 pounds, Brandon Wheat Kings, "remains on the shelf dealing with an injury and has only played eight games so far this season. When healthy, McQueen's combination of size and skill is intriguing") ... the first QMJHL prospect is #8, Caleb Desnoyers (C, 6-foot-2, 178 pounds, "entire game is on the rise. He's engaged in all three zones and competes for pucks in traffic. Desnoyers is a threat to produce off the rush. Butterface
I just watched highlights of Demidov in the Channel 1 3x3 tourney, but noticed the Russian goaltender looked good. Artemi or Artemiy Pleshkov. He is undrafted ? He is only 5’ 10” I can only assume that was the reason.

I would prefer someone who is a centre.. but yeah, there has to be something to like in those top 7 or 8 picks. Also if we package our Calgary pick with another pick or two, we could get into top 12 and find a RHD.

Hughes has a lot of picks to works with ( 2 2nds, 3 thirds) so no doubt he will looking to move up as he did last year. Hopefully we get lucky and the Calgary pick is in the 11-15 range. Go Flames!! DON
1st goalie picked in 2024 draft at 38; 6'0" tall; next goalies chosen 6'5" 6'1" 6'1" USA getting roster in shape https://www.nhl.com/news/3-things-learned-day-1-of-usa-world-juniors-selection-camp RH d-man option perhaps? "Hensler looks to impress Logan Hensler, an A rated skater on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary players to watch list and a projected first-round pick in the 2025 draft, is honored to have a chance to earn a roster spot on the blue line. The United States is expected to keep eight defensemen and 14 forwards. "It's super special as an underage player too," the 18-year-old freshman at the University of Wisconsin said. "It's pretty cool being back with some of the guys (after participating in the USA Hockey Summer Showcase in August)." In 17 games in a top pairing role with the Badgers this season, the right-handed shot has seven assists and is minus-3. He credits Wisconsin coach Mike Hastings for helping the development of his defensive game. Hensler has been paired Daniel Laatsch, a 22-year-old chosen by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round (No. 215) of the 2021 NHL Draft, for much of the season. "I'm working a lot with Coach Hastings on end zone defense, getting my bumps, closing that space, and that defense also translates to offense," Laatsch said. "Those are the biggest things I've been working on with [Hastings] in the film room. Just watching my play, digesting it and going out there and improving on it. Hensler (6-2, 192) understands the importance of using his big frame to an advantage. "I think my skating piece helps me a bunch ... using my ability to skate and close those plays out and just not taking penalties," Hensler said. "I want to help the team defend the right way and, of course, win games."
GNick
With latest mini win streak Habs up to drafting 6th now. Going 6-4 over last 10. Probably looking at Desnoyers. Mrtka possible also. Adds some right shot D prospects. Fiddler or Carter Hart with Flames pick be my wish list for Christmas. Might get another first if trade Evans at deadline. Cootes be my pick. Speed, two way center. BCHabnut
Whatever pick this team gets at the draft, I just want one thing. Draft the best player available. I don't care how many of one position the team has. Galchenyuk instead of Forseburg. KK instead of Hughes or Tcachuk. Yet to play out is Reinbacher instead of Mitchkov. Everytime this team drafts for position with early picks, it goes wrong. Draft BPA and sort out the roster when the players are actually in the lineup. If you have to make a hockey trade later that's OK. I wonder what kind of known right handed defenseman Mitchkov could get us right now? Reinbacher may end up being elite, so maybe that's not really fair, but the philosophy should always be BPA.
DON
Yup, drafting BPA seems smartest or most logical and not drafting by size (i,e, Cooley too small vs Slaf) likely would pay off as well? To be fair, I don't think Reinbacher was drafted over Michkov due to the position he plays. But I do agree with the BPA policy unless there are multiple options at the same level. GNick
Mrtka be good pick for Habs. Carter Bear playing well also. Flames pick? Would give Habs center depth. Cootes is speedy mid line center. Murtagh could be interesting in 2nd round.

DON
Cooley was too small eh. https://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey/2025-01-08/rondelle-libre/reconstructions-ca-prend-aussi-des-coups-de-circuit.php "Lane Hutson's average points per game since entering the NHL. An average of 62 points prorated over a full season. No player in the 2022 class who has played at least 40 games in the NHL is showing that pace. The second-best in this category, third-round pick Logan Cooley, is close, at 0.64. Cooley has 34 points in 39 games this season."
