It sucks but players get injured.

Was it a penalty that wasnt called? Sure.

Was it an intent to injure and the Habs should go after players not involved in the play? Thats just bullshit, and yes ill call out that kinda thinking as not helping the team or the league.

I just didnt see the kind of cheap shot that necessitates that.

Yes you are right.

I was in angermode for that post. Im all for a physical hardhitting but clean game against the leafs next time.

I would love to see Xhekaj clock Reeves but seriously its not worth it.

Another whole year of lost development on Reinbacher? Devastating.

And also feels like whole season is lost because of Läines injury. I was really hoping for at least a fight for the playoffs.

While there's no way to know at this point how bad Reinbacher is hurt, it didn't look bad.  It looked more like an injury he could be back in a couple of weeks or less, maybe even a couple of days.  The bigger disappointment for him is missing out on the rest of training camp, getting a taste of NHL players before going to the AHL.

Laine on the other hand, anything less than 4-6 weeks would be surprising.  Crossing my fingers I'm completely wrong here, but not being hopeful.

Laine was likely to get injured at some point - he hasn’t played a full season in three years. I figured we’d get 65 games out of him. But last night looked much more serious than a 4-6 week thing. Hope not.

Bad luck is real. And when it comes to massive injuries to important players, the Habs have had a ridiculous amount of it since Koivu.

I’m a bit worried on a human level for Laine. A season ending injury before a single official game has been played is a terrible thing to happen - just about the worst possible outcome - to a young man trying to overcome depression, or whatever his mental health issues are.

My sentiments exactly. I've lived Laines knee issue (even though it still not officially confirmed) and it isn't easy...  couple that all is other issues he's trying to overcome, and I really hope it makes him stronger in the end...

He actually took two blows(the initial knee blow, as well as the whip lash)

The Laine injury sucks. But I didn't see a play where a player was beat, so he stuck out the knee. Yes, under a microscope, the knee sticks out, but I'm not too mad at the other player. The Reinbacher injury could be a big deal short term though. This team needs 2 top 4 defenseman. Right now they have zero.

What I saw was a career ECHL/ AHL player who will have zero chance at an NHL career left flat footed by a far superior 6'5 220lb winger with speed. Instead of letting him go, he led with his knee, and the result is catastrophic for Laine. On top of that, he failed to answer for his reckless and dangerous movement after the refs failed to make the right call on the play.

Of course his intention was not to blow up Laines knee. But his challange was reckless when leading with his knee. It's why kneeing is a penalty. To me it's  no different than when a guy pushes a guy Iin  the back of the numbers and sends him flying into  boards hard and usually head first. The intention isn't to injure, but its the result often times from the action.

It is terrible, rotten luck. Trying to be as objective as possible, I just didn't see a dirty play or intent to injure, maybe a bit careless.

Time to move forward and hope both players can recover fully from whatever the injury is. Hopefully last night was the low point of the year. It appears Hughes (with Price and likely Laine on LTIR) will have a whole lot of cap room. Let's see if he can be creative with it.

I would agree with that if not for the attempt on Hudson. It was fully intended and not answering the bell after is bs.

zero?

If Mattheson isn't a top 4 defenceman, I don't know what is.

He's at minimum a #2.

I know I’m probably gonna get reemed for this but with all due respect, Laine was trying to split two players while skating like a duck.

He should’ve been using his frame and speed while leading with his shoulder instead of leaving his knees exposed like he did.

Again, I’m not defending that clown but Laine didn’t do himself any favors there.

I'm sorry. Right defense. They have no top 4 rd. I think Ghule, Matheson and potentially hutson are all top 4 LD

Ya. It's wasn't the type of knee that usually pisses me off.

Fair, I agree with that.

Guhle works in a pinch, but would rather have him on the Left.

Assuming laine and reinbacher are on IR... that means 5 more cuts by my count?

So lets' say it's 5.  Who are the ones on the bubble,  Engstrom, Mailloux, Struble (I think he stays), Kapanen, Boulet, Heinemann and Dobes?  Did I miss anyone?

Certainly Dobes is going down. Who are the keepers of the above group.  Struble and Kapanen?

Engstrom goes IMO.

Heineman and Dobes both go.

Thats 3.

So now 2 more out of Struble, Mailloux, Kapanen, and Boulet

To me its Struble and Kapanen who stay.... but if Guhle goes on IR to start the season as he's not played yet, then Mailloux also stays.

So it’s a given Hutson makes it huh?

Would they keep Reinbacher on the NHL IR rather than AHL IR? That would mean paying him the NHL salary, which would count against the cap, right?

He'd go on season-opening IR.  In doing so, he'd only count against the cap for the portion of time spent on an NHL roster last season.  In his case, that's zero so he'd have no cap hit.  Montreal can't send him down until he is cleared to return so the AHL IR isn't an option.
