Prime Minister Koivu
End of the second period: Suzuki - 3 points Slafkovsky - 2 points Dach - 2 points Caufield - 1 goal off of a beauty Hutson pass
DON
Good work by Slafkovski (2a), Dach(2a) great to see. Just 11 shots on Primeau... ugly save%.
Commandant
The third goal against was an absolutely awful line change. Thats not the hybrid system, thats just bad fundamental hockey

illWill
Alright, I've seen enough of Primeau. Send him down, put him on waivers, who cares at this point.
sbhatt
This is hard to watch. Matheson should be sat down for the remainder of this game, and Primeau should be sent down until his contract expires.

Prime Minister Koivu
Fun game with lots of points for several players. Tons of goals because of terrible plays, bad line changes, suspect goaltending and what the hell was Matheson doing on the Sabres 5th goal? Holy hell! Prime Minister Koivu
Matheson - Guhle have brutal stats. What was the point of switching Matheson to the right side? They have played together successfully for many games - why mess with that? Everyone else had good to outstanding game.

I think it's as much on Guhle as on Matheson.
tomh009
Full credit to Bergevin for the Caufield draft pick. Picked 15th in 2019, he's an absolute super sniper.

Hutson to Caufield to the back of the net is going to happen many, many times. 14 minutes ago, tomh009 said: Yeah, that's the one. I think it's as much on Guhle as on Matheson. I thought Guhle was playing the pass and wondering WTF Matheson was doing. Either way, Primeau had to stop that.
Prime Minister Koivu
I forgot to add that Heineman played a really strong game. Strong on the boards, good passes, hard shot. Newhook played his ass off with second efforts everywhere.
alfredoh2009
Monkeys off their backs I can’t wait to see how they play the next couple of games. If they continue pressing and playing with this intensity they should get better results. i hope they split Matheson and Guhle at some point

Vet or not 7 hours ago, Commandant said: Yeah lets get rid of one of the few defencemen on the team capable of playing top 4 minutes. Im sure that will make our defence better. 7 hours ago, GHT120 said: Unless the trade is for the RH anti-Matheson (i.e., mostly defense, little offence) capable of Top 4 minutes ... admittedly, much easier said than done. 5 hours ago, The Chicoutimi Cucumber said: Another Hail Mary idea. We need MORE experienced D, not fewer. And without Mattheson, we’d be over-using Hutson even more than we are now. Even as it is, we’re setting him up to get injured, like so many of our other top prospects have been. Further thought: put Mattheson on a team that plays reasonably solid defence, and his errors would matter a lot less. He is exactly like Petry: a really good puck-moving defender who sometimes makes dumb plays in his own end. Since perfection is not a realistic option, that is a very valuable commodity. I think we'd all agree that what we need is a more responsible vet presence to balance out young mistakes... trading Matheson for that makes perfect sense. Sadly after looking around the league I see no trade/player that realistically makes sense for both sides. Every team with possibly a free body already has a solid pp dman or the the guy coming back is too bad offensively or too good overall to make it a good trade. Plus there's always cap shit too. Likely too difficult to do that kind of identity shifting trade in season.
Commandant
Again, i go back to the florida example. Even their vet defence struggled with the system change. Last year we were almost all pleased with Matheson. Why not let him adjust to the new system before looking for a trade, especially at his cap hit. Another issue in any system change is that we arent even 100% sure who is making the mistake. Another player being out of position and someone covering up for them can make it look like the player trying to cover got caught. Unless we know every intricacy of the system and study the film, there are times we will see a short replay and blame the wrong person.
