Prime Minister Koivu
I believe that Hugo was intending on Reinbacher playing NHL so Kovasevic was expendable. I also believe the Laine thing was last minute and Hughes hadn’t intended on trading Harris. Then on top of it all Barron could not be counted on to play. Hughes solves it with Carrier

Not every trade is about the long run, however, even on a rebuilding team. Fair point about Kovacevic, though - although again, hardly anyone on this board saw his departure as a problem, so it’s hard to finger-wag at Hugo over that one. Also Carrier seems to be a better player, on the whole, than Kovacevic. Carrier is a legit top 4 defenceman today and is signed at a reasonable deal for 3 years. So no we wouldnt lose the trade in the long run by trading Barron if he only becomes a top 4. Hed need to be more than that for this to be a loss. Also Yes Carrier is better than Kovacevic, and the just trade Barron and keep Kovacevic comments miss that

JoeLassister
After this weekend, no matter how Barron turns out in Nashville, big props to Hughes for pulling that off.

The Chicoutimi Cucumber
I think we hear enough similar things to suggest that it’s real - that these Habs have a pretty positive, happy team culture right now. I’m all for that, but the fact is that these have been perfect conditions. These guys are playing in Montreal, treated like royalty by both organization and fans, beloved by all, in an environment that has been nearly zero-pressure because there hasn’t been the expectation that they win a lot of hockey games. As the team and fan expectations shift, the pressure will rise. To the extent that the team succeeds in rising to the occasion, well, winning solves everything (as Carrier points out). If and when the team hits a sustained period of regression, or falls short of expectation and has the city turn on it, cracks in the culture will be exposed and magnified. It’s a good sign that we came out of that horrible October with the team culture seemingly intact. MSL also seems to be exceptionally good at handling his guys. But still, the true test will occur when these guys have to face the same gauntlet of expectations every other Habs team has had to.

I don't know how to develop him. Habs 7-2 since Carrier trade. Helped the right side and left side also as Guhle is much better on his natural side. Matheson is playing well on right side. If he continues well maybe less rush to add top 4 right D. Also, at deadline if we can get a Chiarot type return on Savard may allow trade him call somebody up from Laval. Reinbacher be back there by then. Gives us depth to do trade like this
