  • DON changed the title to Game #33 Habs vs Wings 7pm Dec 21 205

They managed to get MSL (8:50 to the end) out of the post-game presser before he was asked about tomorrow's goaltender

Laine about to have more points this season than his linemates (Dach, Newhook).

I am still surprised he is doing as well so early on in his season.

Love Hutson laying out some nice 1-timer passes for him on the PP... Caufield likely cursing him (that was my spot!).

DET@MTL: What you need to know | Montréal Canadiens

"Laine has scored four goals in his last two outings, including a hat trick. His seven goals – all of which have been scored on the power play – in only eight appearances prove that the NHL veteran hasn’t lost his touch and continues to be an offensive threat with a wicked shot. The last Hab to score as many goals in the same amount of time was Pierre Turgeon in 1995. According to Sportsnet Stats, he is also the first player in NHL history to score seven PPGs in his first eight games with a team. Laine is only four tallies away from grabbing the NHL lead in powerplay goals from Brayden Point (11). Cole Caufield also has seven markers on the man advantage and is two goals shy of reaching the 100-goal mark in the League."

It shows how much Dach, Newhook and Slafkovsky are struggling when Laine is dynamite on the PP, without any of those 3 on the ice, but still 0 pts 5-on-5.

But on the PP it is kinda a Hutson-Laine 2 on 1 and with the man advantage giving him more room to shoot, maybe?

We cant blame it all on linemates.  Laine had a serious knee injury after missing most of last season.  His skating is less than 100%.

Thats not effecting his ability to get into position at the circle and fire that one-timer but hes gonna need time before hes dynamic 5 on 5 too.

Does Primeau get the game against CBJ?  Perhaps easy to ride Montembeault again with four days off between CBJ and Florida, but Primeau last started December 1st ... tonight is 9 straight starts for Samuel.

I doubt he minds, this is his 1st back to back isnt it?

dlbalr has mentioned if Primeau needs a game or three, he could go to Laval for a conditioning stint, which he refused to do last year... i think.

Don’t care if Primeau needs games. Habs need a (different) backup (or 1b).

Go Laine Go 🚨

I was thinking that the pass to Laine for the big shot has become as predictable as it was to Caufield. Then Laine goes and scores again 🎉

Are we getting a first rounder for Evans?

Carrier is a safe and steady guy that doesn’t risk much. He has a good stick and reads the play well.

Finally have a power play that can can generate momentum even if we don’t score.

I don’t know how much of the last two games are Montreal playing great versus Detroit playing poorly.

$64,000 Question ... think the answer is ... yes ... both ... although I would change "great" to "well"
