Enjoy the hot dogs Pezzetta ... RHP eats a little more cap space but wonder if this is his audition to replace Michael as the 13th forward once Heineman returns?

This is apparently a big swing game. I heard a podcast mention that, if we win, our chance at making post season jumps to 40% on moneypuck… that’s 5-6% higher.

Sounds like Anderson and Gallagher are game-time decision so this could simply be hedging against one of them being out as well.

Sink or swim for Dobes.

Saturday night home game.

Against a good team.

Lots of pressure.

If he performs it will be huge.

If he Primeau’s it will be disappointing.

But we needed to find out.

NJ and Winnipeg are big tests. If we pull off wins I think it’s safe to say nobody will want to get embarrassed in the first round versus us. They will either pray we don’t make the playoffs, or pray they won’t face us.

I can 100% guarantee we won't face Winnipeg in the first round of the playoffs, not in the 2nd or 3rd round either.

5 wins and 1 loss would be "Primeaus it"

New Jersey and Winnipeg want to win cause they don't want to face the Habs in the playoffs.

The pot stirring is so bad.

Swim… he does well.

Sink… he doesn’t do well.

An average game probably won’t win it.

Worst case scenario he fails miserably. I don’t suspect he will. I have confidence in him.

“Primeaus it” isn’t a loss.. it’s .820 save percentage in a blowout… a goalie change etc.

Losing 3-2 or 4-2 won’t make it a Primeau unless the Devils only get 10 shots.

"Sink or swim" has a longer term connotation than just do well or don't do well in one game ... the origin is to throw someone into in deep water and they either swim or drown.

There is a lot riding on this game for Dobes.

They chose not to play him in Detroit.

So he got a Saturday night game in Montreal. A game that would be a Carey Price game or a Montembeault game…

Of course it’s sink or swim.

This is huge pressure for a young goalie.

Odds makers say the Habs have a 40.5% chance of winning….

It’s good we find out now whether he can handle this type of pressure.

All goalies have bad games.  Even Patrick Roy famously had an awful game in his last game as a Hab.  Carey Price had off nights too.

Even if Dobes did that tonight, I still wouldn't compare it to Primeau, id just call it a bad game.

If he has 4 of those in his next 5 starts then we are Primeau territory.

Saturday night in Montreal is deep water.

Playoff implications. Big game.

They are saying, see what you can do… they didn’t shelter him in Detroit .. outside city with a nonplayoff team…this is a big moment.

His first Saturday night game.

I agree they chose to see how he does in front of the home crowd on a Saturday night ... but I don't think this one game will seriously impact their plans for him for the rest of the season.

If he wins it might impact their plans.

If he loses admirably it might not impact their plans.

If he loses disastrously it will seriously make them think about their plans for him the rest of the season.

Its still January.  Obviously wins are better than losses but we are far from do or die territory.

There are 9-10 teams within 7-8 points of a playoff spot only two or three teams can get. These are all games that have meaning. This is what Hughes and Gorton wanted. They got it. Now they will see who thrives in the pressure.
