Primeau has been absolute garbage this season, and no one will trade a legit goalie for him.  He might have been the worst goalie in the league this year, either him or Silovs.

Getting anything of value for a guy who no team would give a Qualifying Offer to is a pipe dream.

I think you forgot about Georgiev.

One last factor.  Maybe fowler is signed and plays in the AHL playoffs.

That would be an interesting wrinkle …. at least someone with a future at the club could get experience.

Or like Brian said, one day contract for a fifth goalie. Now I’m wondering why a goalie needs to be a goalie. Why can’t they designate an AHL 14th forward as an NHL goalie for one day ? Is there a rule against that ?

-0.338 GSAx per 60.

The only goalies worse than Primeau, on a per 60 basis have all played less than 10 games.  Most are at 1 or 2.

Husso (9 games) -1.094

Silovs (9 games) - 1.206

Spencer Martin (9) - 1.226

are the only three other contenders to really be considered worst this season.  Primeau has a lower save percentage on low danger shots, than all three of them.  Meaning of the 4 goalies in contention, he's letting in the most that are absolute stinkers.

From this article:

https://montrealhockeynow.com/2025/03/06/montreal-canadiens-news-reinbacher-goal-nhl-trade-talk-habs-deadline-armia-savard/

The Calder Cup playoffs don’t start any time soon, but to qualify for playoff action players must be in the AHL by the 3 pm NHL Trade Deadline on Friday. Owen Beck is likely to be ‘papered’ allowing him to play, but Jakub Dobes, Arber Xhekaj, and Emil Heineman are unlikely to loaned to the Laval Rocket, as they’re now considered full-time members of the NHL team. [AHL Playoffs Eligibility – Canadiens Deadline To ‘Paper’ Prospects]

Lane Hutson is also eligible… I would think.. I’m pretty sure the USA would like him for IIHF Worlds though… and I’m sure, although not mentioned, he is considered a full-time Canadien.

I think that how they manage Dobes and Primeau AHL status will be interesting. I would prefer to Primeau traded rather than keeping him in Laval. I would take a career NHL backup on the decline to sit on the bench for Montembeault. Papering Dobes.

I don't think Primeau has done well enough in Laval to show he's an NHL backup for the stretch.  And not many teams will be willing to pay a seven-figure salary as he's getting to play in the minors.  The idea makes sense in theory but with that one-way salary, it complicates things.

that is why I proposed the trade to PHI they are set at the NHL level this season and from what I read from those following that team their AHL will soon be varying three goalies. I think they may be interested in swapping the Gs with NHL contra at if the Habs add something.

I disagree wrt Primeaunin Laval. He has a gone back at what made him a better choice for the Habs to keep last season. He needs to play lots and PHI may be better suited to do that for him next season

No one is trading anything of value for Primeau.

In fact, with a 1-way contract, we would have to include something to even get rid of him.

Just let him go UFA on July 1st and move on.   There is nothing to do here.

Likely no room for them (Dvo and Armia), correct. We could hold prospects back and make room… so not out of the realm, but unlikely. Trade Anderson, keep Armia… that is an option too. But then you lose some intimidation and muscle without Anderson that a Demidov could use if he was bullied (and we can’t afford to always lose a defenseman (Xhekaj) to the penalty box.)

When you trade out a Dvorak and/or an Armia are you calling up Roy ? No more Dach, so we need Pez, ABB, Roy, Condotta or RHP to fill in. Not ideal to making the playoffs.

Laval should also try to go for the Calder. It’s more achievable than the Stanley Cup at the moment. That could work well for AHL prospects we plan to advance to the NHL in next year or two. If the Habs make the playoffs we steal players that would be huge for Laval to make a longer run.

If you trade Savard then you need to bring up a Dman from Laval. That will make it harder to fight into NHL playoffs.

I just think Hughes is done….. unless he trades for an NHL roster player. Which is possible, but unlikely.

Don't think Hughes wants to pass up at making NHL playoffs at this point.

I was not expecting us to be in this situation until next year. I am a bit sad that we don’t pick up one more high draft pick. But also excited to see the progress happening before Demidov arrives and before we finished the Price contract and before we got rid of our previous regimes UFAs. (This year’s and next year’s batch).

But seeing how we are this close and Evans is re-upped at a team friendly number and term…. I’m in for a nail biting battle for the playoffs.

Should be fun (and possibly excruciating) to watch.

I'd be fine trading no one but if we are trading someone... I'd say trade Armia retained and call up Roy (or others).

Keep Dvorak since we need the centre slot and we likely will only find a buyer for one at their cap hits.

Would adding Rantanen, if could arrange new contract 1st, be worth it, or past his best before date soon?

Am sure would be costly, but would look good in a Habs jersey.

For the right price, yes I would take him.

Primeau's not better than Ersson so he wouldn't be getting to play a lot in Philly.  I don't think they would view him ahead of Fedotov either so I doubt they, or anyone really, views him as a full-fledged NHL backup option.  If the Flyers want him, they'll just try to sign him as a non-qualified UFA in July.

At this point Primeau has negative value in a trade.  I don't even know why so much time has been spent discussing him.

Habs won't qualify him and he'll move on as a UFA in July.

Nothing more to it than that.

(Are Armia & Savard playing tonight?:D)

Considering Montreal only has six D with them on the trip, I think there's a good chance Savard is in no matter what.

I don't believe that a contract would/could be worked out first ... but it would certainly give the habs a boost in the playoff chase and would mean the Habs are the only team that can offer him an 8 year contract.

That could be a less than subtle hint that HuGo don't expect to trade David ... or if they do it will be when someone gets desperate at 2:57 tomorrow afternoon.

You can work out a contract first if the other team gives permission.  It doesn't seem Carolina is giving permission, and its also a little late at this point.

Nelson traded to Avalanche by Islanders | NHL.com

Brock Nelson was traded to the Colorado Avalanche by the New York Islanders on Thursday for defenseman Oliver Kylington, forward prospect Calum Ritchie, a conditional first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and a conditional third-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft.

Colorado also received forward prospect William Dufour in the deal, which New York followed up by trading Kylington to the Anaheim Ducks for future considerations.

PHI, more picks! loading up, wow

A third-round pick constitutes loading up?

Having said that, they landed a first-rounder for Laughton since then in a move to Toronto.

they have more picks than the Habs in 2025. I though they would be done getting more picks. It's a 3rd in 2027 but still a late pick instead of a depth player.
