1st take, i like him staying.

I think better than just a 2nd rd pick and will make Suzuki happy to see he him not dealt away.

Wow!! I am shocked. Was fully expecting him to go UFA and get overpaid by some dumbass.

This is a very good contract. I've been wondering how we will build on our existing depth if we lose guys like Evans. Now we've kept him, so we can focus more on getting better and less on filling holes.

Very good contract for a defensive master. I was concerned about losing him. 2.85 seems very reasonable. He's a bottom 6 guy, so 3.5+ would have been too much of an overpay. Now get Armia on a team friendly extension.  Keep these 3 together.

A sensible contract and a useful player to retain. Lack of NMC makes him easier to move if someone plays past him. Also think it reflects the club covering themselves considering Dach’s dodgy knees.

That suggests to me their number might have been $2.75M and just moved up a tiny bit to get it done.  Pleasantly surprised with the AAV below a three although four years is probably one longer than they wanted to go.  That's a fair trade-off though.

Didn’t expect Evans to get a no movement clause

I started reading the quote and I thought, great, no tariffs on that! 🤪

I think four is reasonable, even if three would have been better. I wonder whether Hughes conceded an extra year, too.

Overall, a far, far better contract than I expected we might have to sign. I do think Evans really did want to stay. Great news all around!

Wow !

I expected AT LEAST 3.5M$ to stay in Mtl.  Evans didn’t want to go. Awesome !

I was expecting that Evans was seeking a 7-8 year deal so I was happy with 4 years

Yes, I think the contract says the Jake Evans wants to be a Montreal Canadien, makes me like him even more.

Pretty awesome to see a 7th rounder push through and succeed. Glad Evans is resigned, and at a reasonable term. I know plenty of folks wanted to purge and go full youth, but the team needs vets to help get them through.

2.85 is good and the term is good

Hughes 👍

I agree. Solid contract. Love seeing he will be a 15 year system guy. Pretty rare. Especially for a 7th rounder. Those guys are worth pointing towards for others. Discover your best talent and play your role.

i am getting the feeling the Habs might decide to be renters. Bring Nelson from the Isles for the playoff push anyone? Let Beck go play and take a run  at the AHL championship Build winners. Let Nelson see if a playoff run and Winning can happen for the Habs in the playoffs. Build winners. Give everyone a taste of it.

Habs have like a 15% chance of making the playoffs.

Im not in favour of rentals.

To me a rental isnt just to make the playoffs, its to make you a cup contender, and even with Nelson this isnt a true cup contender

Keep the assets for when its time to really go.

Now if you are signing Nelson short term to be the #2 c next season, then i could listen to that.

I was always advocating for keeping Evans and would have been willing to pay him (not as the actual GM, but as a fan) up to 4 million. Needless to say that wasn’t necessary and I am extremely happy. Good job Hugo.

I expected him to look for some NTC protection for next year at least ... especially at that AAV ... TECHNICALLY, Evans could be traded tomorrow.
