NHL centre ice options

I only had centre ice once a couple of years ago (after the RDS package was no longer available from Telus).

 

is the only way to get NHL centre ice through a cable provider? If I get it through Telus, can I still access games via steaming when travelling, both within and outside of Canada?

I don’t know about outside of Canada but Sportsnet sells a streaming package called Sportsnet + and it’s pretty good. 
 

You can even rewatch games or watch after the game. 
 

I don’t remember the cost but everyone is roughly the same $

I've had Sportsnet+ for two years now, and I'm overall quite happy with the quality of the service. Living in SWO, outside the Habs region, I don't recall any regional blackouts at all last year, only the few Monday night games that were exclusively on Amazon.

 

On the downside, the cost is now up to $325 (plus taxes, of course). Yes, it's only $4/game if you watch all of them, but it is about $45/month (less if the Habs make the playoffs). If you have a VPN, you can also use it while traveling (or living within the Habs' region).

Coat is $209 for centre ice with Telus. Will check out Sportsnet+.

 

i can access Sportsnet app and on my phone using my Telus sign-in. Not sure if that also would with with Sportsnet+ if I just got centre ice.

Thanks! Will see if it’s still around $100+ higher than centre ice on Telus.

 

im going to two Habs games so that would have been an $8 saving if it was on a per game basis😁

I think that's the same as the non-premium Sportsnet+ so $249 from Sportsnet. I don't know how many Habs games you get with the non-premium one but I sure would like to know if you find (that would save me $75!).

At least for the pre-season games it seems that the Habs games require premium, whether you are in Calgary or SWO ...

sportsnet+ doesn’t even list Montreal games:

 NHL

STANDARD:

Over 350 total games

Over 170 US vs US games

PREMIUM:

Over 1,180 total games

Over 1,000 out-of-market and US vs US games

BOTH PLANS:

50–78 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, and Calgary Flames, depending on regional restrictions

 

 

 

All signature events including: NHL All-Star Weekend, Winter Classic, Stadium Series and NHL Draft

Every game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs

Does RDS have all Montreal games? Not sure if they are oavilanle out of region- I think that was one of the issues when they got rid of the cheap RDS plan with Telus - at

leadt in Alberta.

Anyone know with either centre ice or Sportsnet+ Premium, what are the maximum number of Habs games available in Alberta (Calgary)?

 

do either options still prevent you from seeing the regional games on TSN?

 

It also looks like RDS French broadcasts are just regional, while TVA sports has national games, but it doesn’t list how many national

gamea are TVA? Dealing with Telus is extremely painful and they are the only cable provider for my area!

RDS and TSN games are regional.  Sportsnet and TVA are national.  I think the split is 60 RDS/22 TVA or 62/20, something like that.

So even if you get NHL centre ice, you still can’t get the regional games?

 

i think the first time i got centre ice I purchased it from that NHl site and all games were included back than.

The national games are the ones you get without centre ice. 

 

The regional ones are the ones you pay for with centre ice. 

 

Keep in mind that those "regional" games will be blacked out on centre ice, in the region they are televised.  Ie if you are in Alberta, you won'g get Habs vs Oilers, or Habs vs Flames via centre ice.  You'll have to watch those on the local sportsnet feed on your tv.  Or if you are travelling to montreal (or to the opponent's area) you will get blacked out on those via the stream.  But otherwise you should get them. 

 

VPNs can help avoid the blackout by changing your location.

Well, there used to be the main package, and then the much cheaper French-only package. Naturally I signed up for the latter. I guess that's no longer a thing? Or am I confused, as usual?

Thanks for the clarification. I'm going live to the Calgary and Edmonton games, so between the national broadcast and regional, I should be good.

 

Looks like Sportsnet+ won't get me the regional games on TSN, so Centre Ice is the best option for me. It's nuts, with Telus. Its says to order on the telus app, but the telus app doesn't have Centre Ice and after going through all the pre-screening questions with the Telus bot, i finally got to the phone number and they are only open until 6:30PM. Great customer service and wonderful hours for someone who works during the day. I usually don't get home from the office until after 6PM.

You will get hit with blackouts on Calgary @ Montreal and Edmonton @ Montreal too.

 

Remember these blackouts arent about selling tickets.

 

They are forcing you to have the local broadcaster and not just avoid cable.

If i have regular TSN/Sportsnet, I should be able to watch the lousy local Sportsnet broadcast of the CGY @ Montreal and EDM @ Montreal games (assuming they are either national games, or Sportsnet is broadcasting the games) right?  

 

But if sportsnet isn't broadcasting those two games locally, than I'm out of luck when CGY and EDM play in Montreal?  Is that correct?

 

They have made this really complicated. It was much simpler when you purchased the NHl package and got all the games, or purchasd RDS in your cable package and got all the montreal games - albeit in French (my french is pretty much limited to "il laanss, el le but, and belle arrai"😀

That looks like a much better deal than centre ice. So with this package, does that mean that. If 60 games are regional, the other 24 will be either on National or Amazon prime? So if you have the regular spoetsnet, and Amazon prime you would still get all 84 games, plus exhibition games?

 

the other question is it says the broadcast is in French (I’m assuming that is play by play), but th rest of the viewing experience is in English. Does that mean, intermission will still be in English (which works better for me), or that commercials would be in English?

They don’t make it easy to understand!!! So it’s Sportsnet+ premium, you still get the games televised by tsn?

 

i think k if I can get all games through the Sportsnet+ and national/Amazon prime, I’d still rather go that route - much cheaper.’only advantage of Sportsnet + premium and centre Ice, is I can watch non-Habs games - which I really don’t care about.
