Habs Fan in Edmonton Posted April 14 Posted April 14 The Flyers need 1 point tonight to eliminate Columbus and 2 to eliminate Washington as they don't have the tie breaker. If the Flyers lose tonight then the Habs will have some extra fans tomorrow night. Columbus plays Washington tomorrow night so the Flyers can't back in, they need points tonight or tomorrow night. Prime Minister Koivu Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Looks like we are locked in to playing Tampa first round with home ice still up for grabs Coach Marty please try it just for the last game: Dach - Kapanen - Demidov I'm not super excited with the roster moves that St. Louis has tried so far Quote
Commandant Posted April 14 Posted April 14 What has Dach done to get a promotion (and play him on his off wing to do it)? What has Newhook done that shows hes not capable of being on that line, especially since hes much better defensively than Dach? Im super excited that Marty coaches the team and not the fans. Quote

It’s not that Newhook can’t play that role. Dach plays a different style than Newhook and Dach has the ability to control the puck better than Newhook Second line needs a puck control person IMO - Newhook is more of a jack of all trades type of player. Marty has tried Newhook at 2C the 3C lately so what is the problem with trying Dach on the second line wing for one game? If it doesn’t work so be it but why not try it? Marty has tried almost everyone in that spot Quote

Marty has tried almost everyone in that spot I don't think Dach, playing on his off-wing, brings the defensive presence needed for that line, and yes, Marty has tried many people in that spot, but not Dach... maybe there is a reason for that. I also don't think that anything that happens in one game, against Philly, a team who is guaranteed to be third place in their division and can't move up or down the standings, and likely will be resting some players, and playing others limited minutes to save them for the playoffs, would ever mean enough to use such a line in a playoff series. DON Posted April 14 Posted April 14 How about Reinbacher & Engstrom on 3rd pairing? Too risky for 21 & 22 yr old rookie pairing? Engstrom gets pushed around as rookie d-men do, but likely defends better than Xhekaj. Quote

I think Guhle and Carrier are going to be ready to go in the playoffs so there would be no need for an all rookie third pair. Carrier is back handling pucks and the playoffs don't start til Saturday. I know there is a chance we could get home ice but with Tampa having the tie breaker and playing the Rangers tomorrow, it seems unlikely. So the question becomes who plays with Matheson. Matheson - xxxxx Struble - Hutson Xxxxxx - xxxxxx Id likely put reinbacher with matheson and leave xhekaj - engstrom together for 2 reasons. 1) matheson is the vet who can teach Reinbacher the most on the bench between shifts. 2) id test reinbacher with bigger minutes in this one. But thats me. There are arguments for other pairings too. Quote

I wonder if they should try Matheson - Reinbacher to see if Reinbacher is a possible solution to the Dobson injury Both Guhle and Matheson are noticeably better on the left side so not ideal 2 minutes ago, Commandant said: Its almost an exhibition game. GHT120 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 Which is the tougher opponent: NYRs: underperforming veteran team long eliminated from the playoffs but over-performing (5-5-0 in last 10 vs 33-39-9) as they play out the season Flyers: AHL-laden team that has just clinched their first playoff spot in 6 seasons NYRs are likely a 50/50 bet based on their recent play ... with a slight boost for the opportunity to ruin TBLs chance at home ice advantage Flyers call-ups will likely be playing their hearts out, but they are still for the most part AHLers ... the vets who dress could either suffer from attaining their objective hangover ... if they are given increased roles to fill-in for the "sitters" they may similarly play their hearts out; but if they don't, they may suffer from a "why not me" malaise. TBL has a major advantage in that they will know tomorrow night whether or not they have to win ... Go Habs Go and make the bastards sweat Quote
GHT120 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 Assume it is a "therapy day" ... not sure that makes me feel much better, with Dobson out they need the healthiest Guhle possible come Game 1 ... they better get home ice Quote

GHT120 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 With Dobson and Carrier out, if Matheson sits I guess Guhle plays (absent another call-up). I would keep Hutson and Struble together and Engström with Reinbacher as the second pairing, they are familiar with each other ... leave Xhekaj with Guhle to minimize Kaiden's TOI and exposure to hits. TheDriveFor25 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Win this game. Make Tampa play their guys tomorrow night to beat the Rangers. A Game 7 in Montreal is far better than a Game 7 in Tampa. Quote

GHT120 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 One MORE reason to want the Habs to win, if there weren't already enough ... shorter wait Quote

Rest all who could use it and live with a loss. Quote

That has been true this season, but I do believe that the playoffs are a very different beast ... matchups and protecting their vulnerabilities on defence will be MUCH more important. 19 minutes ago, DON said: Rest all who could use it and live with a loss. But I agree with this ... as many players as possible who have nagging injuries and NEED to avoid the wear&tear should sit Quote
