LINEUP NEWS
The Canadiens are not scheduled for a morning skate on Saturday. For the full official lineup, check back on the team’s social accounts on Instagram, Facebook and X closer to puck drop.

Although if the "Extras" skate that could offer some insights to whether MSL is tempted, or forced (injuries), to make any lineup changes

Yeah, I don't see any changes by choice, at least.  If someone's banged up, of course, that's another story.  It looks like Carolina is keeping their same group from Thursday as well.

Let’s Go Habs. I’m not going to wave my towel because the game is in Carolina and the Canes do the towel waving 2nd best of the American teams (Minny comes to mind and possibly every Canadian team) but :gohabsgo:

Credit where credit is due ... that was an amazing deflection ... one-handed , behind his back

Good at coming back or not I’m tired of letting in these early goals game after game.

I just put on the jersey that hasn’t seen the Habs lose yet since I purchased it Game 3 vs Buffalo at the Bell Centre (haven’t worn it every game).

8 minutes in I am requesting some shots.

Interesting to hear that we had the most blocked shots during the regular season as well as these playoffs after having lost Savard.

Two pretty bad PP and we only have two shots for the period.

I do like how well Montreal is playing in the Dzone. Habs Dmen were outstanding in game one and it looks to be continuing

Struble penalty was nonsense

It has a lot to do with the fact that they allow a lot of shot attempts.  It's good that they're willing to block them but I'd rather them not lead in that category and just allow fewer shot attempts.

Not a great period overall.  The Habs need to adjust their power play to reflect Carolina's pressure.  Way too slow, way too casual, and they're lucky not to have been burned in the dying seconds after the neutral zone turnover.

I get what you’re saying and it’s absolutely correct. However, it’s not like we were a bad team this year.

It’s the same as saying we’re an amazing team when it comes to hits, but it’s a direct consequence of never having possession of the puck. It’s true as well.

I feel as though there’s a difference between being a 29th place team and hitting a lot versus a 6th place team and blocking a lot of shots. Perhaps it’s a combination of both being good at it, as well as giving up a lot of shot attempts.

Anyway, my only point was that I thought losing Savard would hurt when it comes to blocking shots but I agree with what you’re saying as well.

Well, Montreal should consider themselves lucky to only be down one at this point.  Another lousy period with the Habs continuing to act as if it's a criminal offence to shoot the puck.  You're not going to have time to make five passes to get the wide-open look.  It's okay sometimes to take a lower percentage shot and try to tip it or go for a rebound.

What a boneheaded penalty by Texier at the end of the period.  Just asking for trouble with that one.

Dumbest end to a period.

Suzuki fans on a breakaway and then Texier taxes a penalty with 0 seconds left in the offensive zone.

Just a general comment because I don’t like discussing topics relating to refs and calls but if anyone thought Montreal was embellishing last series, Carolina is attempting to sell calls this series, that’s for sure.

We’ll never truly know how much pain Miller was in at the end of the period, but that’s only one example out of many where they’ve acted as though they’ve been shot by a gun. Even Struble’s penalty on Svechnikov. Svechnikov fainted fairly easily when Struble laid his hands on him.

The good news is Line 1 is looking strong, especially #14.

Also, I think it is correct that Carolina’s O-zone control does not translate into very many chances. The Habs are content to let them cycle away on the outside.

Ehlers made a great individual play on that goal. Sometimes you have to tip your hat.

5 shots is not enough, but we are very much in this game. We have the talent to flip the script in one or two shifts.

Texier with a really stupid penalty

Dobes with a really stupid penalty and he surely wants the second goal back

No shots, no rushes, no forecheck

We can do better

Have to stop taking dumb penalties. The way they are hammering Hutson every chance they get I don’t mind the Struble penalty. But Dobes and Texier with really stupid penalties. Texier in particular at the end of a period when you know you need a goal.

Demidov and Slaf have to stop doing the soft back pass that are constantly leading to giveaways. Only players that have played consistently well tonight are Matheson, Anderson and Danault.

HUGE break that Texier's penalty was only 2 ... unless there was an angle I didn't see looked like a deliberate spear to the jewels

Good kill
