Hard to say how much faster than us Carolina is, given that we are clearly running on empty. But one thing this series shows is perhaps that, when we come up against a team that matches us in speed, we're in trouble. In terms of next year - which is fair comment at this point - Job One is a #2C. If St Louis wants Hage for Thomas, I'm pretty sure that will happen, for better or worse. Quote

But right now, our #2C is Jake Evans or Philip Danault. If you look at it objectively, it is amazing we got this far with that as our go-to. A good #2C should help to further unlock Demidov, take heat off Suzuki, shorten the prior series, etc. - it would potentially have cascading effects up and down the lineup. Frankly I see it as the only glaring roster hole on this team. But it's a big hole. Quote

But that's different from our #2C issue, which is a crater. Maybe Kapanen can take a step, but with the window now wide open, I'm skeptical the team will wait around, as opposed to pulling the trigger on a Hage deal. Kapanen probably projects more plausibly as a good #3 anyway. Quote
