While I am not a fan of relying on outlets such as TMZ for such news, The Athletic reports:

When asked about Lemieux’s death, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told The Athletic that deputies responded early Thursday morning to a suicide attempt at a furniture showroom, which state records show is in Lake Park, Fla., and is owned by Lemieux and his wife, Deborah. The Sheriff’s Office secured the business for investigation. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Lemieux’s death but declined to release any records, citing a Florida statute exempting suicide cases from public records requirements.

 

Seems like citing the exemption rather undoes the privacy intended by the exemption, but it also seems to allow The Athletic report to substantiate the cause of death

The really harrowing thought is that coming down off the 'high' of lifting the torch contributed to this horrific tragedy. I hope to God that is not the case.

Such a shock.  It raises questions, with answers we may never be privy to.  Did he have a history of suffering depression, or of battling substance issues?  Was he in financial trouble?  The kind of things that generally drive one to such an extreme act.  It's sad that he didn't reach out for help, whatever the case may have been.

The answer likely lies in CTE.  I think almost.all the old hockey players and football players who have been tested for it post-mortem have come back positive.  I cant think of a single one who didnt.  And that includes those who died of natural causes.

 

Claude played in an era when you didn't miss games for concussions... you did some smelling salts and played through it.

 

I think if hes tested, its highly likely he had it.

I heard about this earlier today. I was there the game he lifted the torch…. And it was only 3 days ago. Hard to process. RIP.

And he wasn't exactly a finesse player either. Playing his style of hockey made him also a target.

I wasn't online much yesterday and just found about this morning.  I guess it's because we just saw him on Monday, but it has just stuck with me all day.  Can't believe it.
