tomh009 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 It's Canadiens Day, err, Canada Day, so time to create the thread for the new season. Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Going into next season with three goalies Hell no Kent! Quote

As usual, I'll trust Hughes with whatever decision he makes, though. Quote
Commandant Posted July 2 Posted July 2 You guys keep looking at Starting Goalie jobs filling up and saying, no room for Marty. No one is taking him as a starter after last season anyway. The best is we retain, or take a bad contract, and trade him somewhere he is a backup or 1B. But obviously the goalies who have been better recently will go first. Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Two really high skilled players battling each other in practice in early July LOVE IT 1 Quote
Peter Puck Posted July 2 Posted July 2 If Monty plays a few games and recovers his form, there will be teams that want him. Last season he was bad but 2 years ago he was very good. Quote

I expect if waived when the waiver freeze comes off in training camp or to set the regular season rosters he would be claimed by somebody ... and as Peter Puck said above, if Monty plays well to start the season that will increase the likelihood of someone trading for him ... and as Tom009 said, Fowler benefits from a full AHL workload (at least to start the year) more than backstopping Dobeš. Prime Minister Koivu Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I hope the kid makes it. Habs could certainly use a really big centre like him Quote

I get the impression (intuition based on Hughes’ comments), that Montreal prefers to tandem Dobes and Fowler next season. We got Monty for free so I’m not bothered by no return. What is Monty’s possible return? A third rounder? Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Heights and weights of prospect camp players for those interested We got some big boys I got a crush on Protz Quote

HuGo's 3rd round picks have been Vinzenz Rohrer, Adam Engstrom, Jacob Fowler, Aatos Koivu, Logan Sawyer, Hayden Paupanekis, Bryce Pickford, Arseny Radkov and Cooper Cleaves ... kinda like what the potential of what they managed to do with 3rd rounders Quote

GHT120 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 BROSSARD – Montreal Canadiens president, hockey operations Jeff Gorton announced on Thursday that Rob Ramage, director of player development, has decided to retire from the hockey world. Ramage joined the Canadiens organization in the summer of 2014 as a development coach, a position he held for three seasons. Ramage was then named director of player development and stayed in that role for nine seasons. Among his main duties, Ramage oversaw the development of the organization’s many prospects, which required him to travel to every corner of the hockey world. Ramage, 67, was also in charge of Canadiens Development Camp, which is held in Brossard every year right after the NHL Draft. “On behalf of the entire organization, we would like to thank Rob for everything that he did for our team during the past 12 years, and we want to wish him all the best in his future projects,” said Gorton. “Rob was a key part of what we established here as far as our development culture, which we wanted to elevate to the highest standards in the NHL.” The organization wishes Ramage a well-deserved retirement and would like to thank him for all his work over the past 12 seasons. I think I can safely say we all wish him well ... No new Director of Player Development shown on the website, yet. Quote
GHT120 Posted July 4 Posted July 4 ClickBait30 had a post "pimping" for Patrick Kane but it did make me think me thinking ... apparently Hutson and Kane are are mutual fans. Hutson: "I am probably the biggest Patrick Kane fan of all time. His talent and his skills are unique." Kane: "Lane Hutson is an incredible player. He is going to have a very beautiful career. I’m going to follow him for a very long time and I'm going to cheer him on. I’m impressed by the way he moves his feet. Plus, he possesses a great ability to control the puck and the game. Also, he is very good defensively. He doesn't give space to his opponents." Assuming there is not a legit 2C coming along, the biggest complaint about Kapanen (other than his late season slump and playoff press box time) was that he doesn't "drive the play", but he did demonstrate some sniping skills ... with Kane and Demidov on his wings, how much would that be needed? Might Kane be tempted/tempting. Quote
dlbalr Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Kane might have some use for the Habs but the general sense is that he will be Buffalo-bound. They're working through a deal for Krebs which will then determine how to set Kane's deal in terms of the salary/bonus ratio. Quote

Yeah hes a Buffalo boy and there had always been a desire from Sabres fans for him to play at home Quote
GHT120 Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Hoping the Carlsson offer sheet has raised the bar for comparables? Quote
dlbalr Posted July 5 Posted July 5 For comparables, both parties have to use existing comparable contracts relative to their proposed number. If it actually gets to a hearing, Dach's camp will probably be putting something in the $5M range so their comparables have to be players making that money, not way more than that. Carlsson's contract will have no bearing on Dach as a result. Quote

Had Dach not filed, the Habs would have had a second window to do that that would have ended tomorrow. (There was one last month that no team took; that one is seldom used league-wide.) Quote

(There was one last month that no team took; that one is seldom used league-wide.) That was meant to be a sarcasm. I can’t see Gordon-Hughes taking a guy who’s been injured to arbitration. What astounds me is Dach taking the team to arbitration when he has done squat during hia entire time in Montreal. I don’t think he even warrants the qualifying offer. For him to go to arbitration says a lot about his character. Quote
