I'm not sure it really helps his trade value though. A team that wanted him might have wanted a chance to negotiate a multi-year deal, even at a higher rate than this. That's now off the table and Dach is on track to hit UFA status next summer which might hurt his trade value. Quote

To add to this, a new extension can't even be signed before January 1st, whether that is Montreal wanting an extension or some new team he is traded to. Quote

Montreal’s prospect pool could be graduating some forwards to the NHL in the near future (players like Michael Hage, Alexander Zharovsky, and Owen Beck, for example) and roster spots for those will be needed. Dach now has this coming season to prove that his spot shouldn’t be one of the ones used for the next wave of youngsters. And if not, he’ll enter unrestricted free agency at 26 next summer. Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I was expecting maybe a 3 year deal but the one year is great if Dach is injured for much of the season again - goodbye as UFA Hopefully he stays healthy and plays great - would be a more expensive contract next season but it would be worth it if Dach became what we hoped.
