Every year at training camp there's always a player that causes a surprise. Last year it was mostly Latendresse, but to a lesser extends guys like Lambert or Ferland avoided cuts for more longer than most could have foresaw.

So this year, I've tried to come up with a bunch of possible scenarios, some more plausible than others. Pick the one you think is more likely to happen and we'll see after the training camp who was on the money!

jeez, those all sound nice...

I went with kostitsyn cause he's the safest bet to make it out of the camp. I wouldnt be surprised if some people got into bonneau and Im sure Lapierre gets some fans.

Wow, all those votes for Kosty.

Personnaly I went with Halak. The kid is on a fast-track to being one of the best young goalies in the world and nobody really ever expected anything of him. I've been an Halak believe ever since 2 seasons ago when he was in Lewiston and looked like an Hasek.

I went for kostitsyn as well because I think that he's ready for prime time hockey. I'm sure we'll his progression like perezhogin's...slow but steady

In fact' I would more surprised to see kostitsyn go back in hamilton than see him stay in montreal

I voted for Latendresse. He can show good intensity on the 4th line and with his skills he could put some pucks in the net after the good work of Bonk and Begin. plus he could get some PP time.

I'd say Kostitsyn as well. Mostly because its been decades since Montreal has had a player they drafted and developed come up and be a huge offensive star in the NHL, while still playing for the Montreal Canadiens.

Montreal almost needs this kid to do it. Since Mats Naslund we have been waiting for someone to put up 100 pts on this team. Now he probably doesn't do it this year, but we need to see that he has the possibility of doing it!!!

AK for me. Looking forward to seeing him shoot down the opposition.

i dont think its worth it right now to bring in latendresse for that duty. Let him mature in juniors.... unless he really blows up the preseason of course. :P

Entertaining list, KoZed, I wish I could have voted more than once! Went with Latendresse, guessing the coaching staff thinks a big aggressive forward is the piece the Habs are missing. At training camp, Montréal media will be all over him, though, that's for sure so he's the sentimental favorite. Of course the problem is if he falters Habs can't send him to Hamilton as he won't turn 20 until May.

definitly a solid list to choose one, hopefully more than one of them comes true.

For me it was a tough call between AK, Chipchura and Lats....

I voted for AK though because I think he's the most ready out of the three and that his skill set (goal scoring) is the most needed right now on the team.

Chipchura will be on the team at some point this year but I just dont think he'll break camp with Montreal. He's only played a month of AHL hockey, let allow him to get a bit more seasoned before he comes up.

Latendresse I believe will be destined to head back to the Q. He has the skill to be an impact player down the line but where would we play him if he came up now? It doens't make sense to bring a guy like him up at the age of 19 to play 7 minutes a game on the 4th line. Lets give him time to develop so that when he does make the team he can be an impact player for us for years to come.

I choose Chipchura, IMO he is NHL-ready. And if he does not get selected after training camp, then there will be a call up during the season. His size, speed, confidence and leadership will not go unnoticed.

p.s. ATHLÉTIQUE.CANADIEN I tried to post my very first topic on Perezhogin but you beat me to it. I guess I need to be quicker, long time reader and fan of this Forum! This is my first reply! Go Habs Go!

You'll beat me to it next time. :P Actually, I just had gotten out of bed, yawned. Noticed that I hadn't turned off my computer due to crashing out with a too many beer headache. Opened firefox and went to awful TSN. Noticed it. Then I opened forums.habsworld and made sure no one had it. I didn't check NHL talk. Then I posted it. I bet we were within seconds of each other.

Typically they will merge the thread based on who got it first. I've actually never managed to beat out any news. So, this is my 1st

Chippy just might make it over Kosty too. It's all going to come down to camp decisions. I hope Lats makes a strong pitch and at least catches fire. I'm still brooding over the World Juniors. I hope for an about face from him.

:hlogo:

So many problems in our youth dept. (sarcasm) :king:

I agree, Lats does have loads to prove at the World Juniors. And his passion for the Habs will be on display in Training Camp. His aggressive play will earn him points and that will be his most attractive attribute to the fans. I do wish him the best.

I went with Halak as well...but even if he has a superb camp...I see him having to strut his stuff in the AHL some more.

he could even end up in long beach in order to get lots of ice time if he doesn't beat danis for the starting job in hamilton

Great post....I went with Chipchura due to the type of role player that he brings to the team. the offence is ready, Defence looks solid compare to last year, and goal tending is not a issue. Chip is a western kid with lots of heart and grit and yes leadership (BG-Carb-Muller type of player) and is 100% ready for the big show....

Higgins-Koivu-Ryder

Samsonov-plekanec -Kovalev

Perezhogin-chipchura-Johnson

Bégin-Bonk-Murray

Extra : Downey

Markov-Komisarek

Souray-Rivet

Bouillon-Dandenault

Extra; Streit

Huet

Danis

Ribs and Aebisher will be gone before start of the season......

I like what I see and very excited for the start of the season and many years to come!!! :hlogo:

Wow so many good ones to pick ... I picked Grabovsky ... he had such a great world championships with Kotitsyn ( who I would have picked 2nd ) both were playing against nhl calibler players on a team with non nhl players and still played really well and had everyone talking ... I'm hoping both can make it ... but if not then what a line combo Hamilton will have with those two in between either Locke or Chipchura :)

It's between Chipchura, Kostitsyn and Lapierre for me.

The season is the top scoring lines are pretty much set. The only more offensive line left is the one with Plekanec and Perezhogin which players on the third line or 1C as some line to call it for the most part of last season.

Kostitsyn is the most offensive skilled player between those four but his stay in Hamilton has proved that he's responsible defensively and can fit nicely on the third.

On the other hand, Perezhogin, as good as he is offensively, has some defensive problems. That's where Lapierre power forward style can come in handy or Chipchura's defensive game can also come in handy. Both players can also score which is a plus. Since Lapierre got some ice time with the big club last season I'm giving my vote to him.

Chipchura is solid but some playing time in the minors is always good to sharpen his defensive game. Defense is a major aspect that the Habs farm coaches always work on. If Samsonov hadn't signed with Montreal, I think Kostitsyn would have earned his spot easily.

Latendresse would be the ideal fit for the third line to play on but I don't think he's NHL ready. Hope he proves me wrong at training camp.
