The deal would be worth $1.9 million for one season. The Vancouver Canucks have seven days to match this offer, but if they choose to walk away for financial reasons, the compensation paid to the Canucks for the Flyers manouever will be a 2nd round draft pick. There was something of a gentlemen's agreement about this kind of thing beforehand. I guess his ruthlessness comes through again. Kudos for having the cahunas to go for the player in a mildly underhanded manner, but I wonder how this will affect him in the long run. He has Umberger already and wants Kesler too. There was no way Nonis was letting Kes go. I'm glad he didn't. However in the end I think we'll be fine. We won't be screwed like we were last year and we came out ok. It's Joe freaking Sakic) but that still turned me off towards the Rangers. After the Sakic and Fedorov offers, it seemed pretty obvious that teams were gonna match any offers for their top players, and those deals were not exactly legit, because a lot of the salary was up front. Fedorov's deal only paid him something like $1.5 million in his last year, which gave him UFA a year early becuase he was under the league average. But with deferred salary now a thing of the past, it's a more realistic offer. And the cap value vs. real value also plays into it.
