re-watch of Once Upon A Time in the West

Harmonica: The reward for this man is 5000 dollars, is that right?

Cheyenne: Judas was content for 4970 dollars less.

Harmonica: There were no dollars in them days.

Cheyenne: But sons of bitches... yeah.

Just wondering, BTH, what the point of saying you've seen a movie and not saying anything about it is. I think I'll start posting what I have for dinner every night.

At times, I have posted what I thought about each one, but usually I watch movies in huge bursts and then list the past like 15-20 I've seen. I'm not going to review 20 movies in one shot! It's better to just leave them there and if anyone else has anything to say about one of them, they can start a discussion that way.

Besides, I'm not really a fan of movie reviews unless you're talking to someone that you know likes the same type of movies as you. For example, no matter how great I insist Andrei Tarkovsky's Nostalghia is, would you be persuaded to see it? Or if I want to hear what someone thought of PT Anderson's new movie, I'm not going to be dissuaded if Habit says it sucked; I'll want to hear from someone who likes those type of movies. And I won't give a shit about how much some casual fan of HP that never read the books loved the new movie.

But since you asked - Once Upon A Time in the West is one of the better movies ever made, certainly one of the best Westerns. It's both long and slow, which might turn some people off, but it's filled with classic scenes and moments. Some of the best music you'll ever hear in a movie, some of the best cinematography you'll ever see in a Western, some of the coolest characters ever, ... Maybe Leone's best movie.

Burn After Reading - I like the Coens's sense of humour and style so I'll like pretty much anything they do. This isn't one of their best movies, but still a fun movie. It's a comedy, but there are no laugh out loud moments. No boring moments either. It just flows. Stacked cast, everyone does a good job, especially Pitt in a supporting role, and I liked Clooney a lot too. If you like the Coens, you're sure to like it - but I can't see anyone absolutely adoring this movie. I'd rate it "good," but ultimately a forgettable movie. (Then again, how many movies in the past decade, haven't been forgettable?)

There are 3-5 absolutely unforgettable moments in this movie!

*The opening scene where they wait for the train. ("I guess we're missing a horse." "You brought two too many.")

*The next scene where the family gets shot up and Henry Fonda stares down the son, while the amazing music blares.

*James Robards and Charles Bronson meeting in the bar. Bronson grabs one of the guys coats. (*Speeding through the dialogue a little bit* "I've seen three of these drifters before." "So?" "Inside the drifters there were three men." "And?" "Inside the men there were three bullets.")

*Robards sneaking onto the train, picking off the men one by one. Finally, he lowers his boot, and when the final enemy approaches, he shoots him in the face, through his boot.

Classic.

The Departed...

Just watched it for the trillionth time. Does anyone agree with me that this is one excellent movie? Probably my favourite of all time. Damon is brilliant, the plot is solid and it flows. It's just a smart, entertaining film.

I agree. Not in my top 10, but still a good movie. I suggest you to see Infernal Affair. It is the original version. From China or Hong Kong, not sure...

I loved it and the original Infernal Affairs...

My girlfriend and I saw District 9 this past weekend. We both enjoyed it, which says a lot, given that we usually can't settle on a movie to see together. I was glad to see it #1 at the box office.

Dragonball Evolution - They butchered the storyline, show etc.. and it's a bad movie, but highly enjoyable, I loved it.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - Not as funny as an Adventureland, but is better as a serious movie.

Inglourious Basterds - FTW! Left the theatre 35 minutes ago. Definitely one of the better movies of the decade.

I couldn't stop laughing through this whole movie. It was ridiculously painful how much they got wrong. I thought it was one of those movies that are so bad it's hilarious and you still end up entertained.

I actually didn't mind this despite the Michael Cera-ness. It was one of those hipster movies we talked about before. My thoughts now are a little foggy cause I saw it back in January but I remember not wanting to see it and then coming away kind of liking it anyway. I like Kat Dennings too.

And if I can find some freakin subtitles, I'll be watching Inglourious Basterds ASAP. Unless someone who's seen it can tell me if it warrants a big screen viewing?

I hear they're making a Dragonball trilogy with more characters. I won't see the sequels in theatres, but I'd want to see them eventually. Evolution is one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen.

If Kat Dennings played the main girl, then I really liked her too.

I haven't yet seen it on a little screen but it's good enough to warrant a big screen viewing. For me, it's one of the top movies of the decade. Tarantino even ends the movie with "Know something, I think this might be my masterpiece" which is an obvious reference to his thoughts on the movie (he thinks it might be better than Pulp Fiction). I'm not sure it is, but it's still sick. Tarantino has me now, the way Anderson had me with TWBB - everything these guys do from now on will be seen by me in theatres. Plus, you're going to want to see Mélanie Laurent (and Diane Kruger) on a big screen.

That was the plan but I don't know how likely it is. When the movie debuted in China and Japan, fans came out of the theaters literally weeping because the movie was so bad. I wouldn't mind seeing a live-action movie based around the Cell games. Like you, I wouldn't pay to see it but I'd be interested.

If Kat Dennings played the main girl, then I really liked her too.

She was. She's really cool IRL too. She had a youtube account before it was cool to have one but hasn't updated it in years. Just means she's finally getting more work though.

Well I got wrapped into seeing it this Saturday anyway so I don't really have much choice anymore. I've been anticipating this for a while so I think I might check it out tonight anyway since I found one with subtitles (don't really want to wait). I've heard Laurent is stunning too.

Speaking of Tarantino, I'm reminded of Grindhouse. Anyone else think it's really cool they're making Machete into an actual movie? Rodriguez is directing, not Tarantino but that was my favourite fake trailer out of all the Grindhouse ones. Kind of a shame it's got Alba and Lohan though.

Really? Probably means it's going to turn Lohan's career around into something useful and add the little grit Alba needed to become more rounded.

They're trying, Rodriguez has been complimenting her non-stop. It's apparently only a supporting role though but it's better then the straight to DVD stuff she's been reduced to.

yeah, good for her. I kinda liked her in Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis.

Alba was already in Sin City (violent, gritty movie and by the same director), and she never became more rounded, she just looked out of place. (and played a stripper that refused to take her clothes off)

I doubt Lohan will restore her credibility with Machete (basically an exploitation film; only a step up from porno). She needs to do more chick flicks! Just she now has such a horrible reputation as a role model for teenaged girls, that no one will cast her.

ah Tarantino. He almost had me. The first scene was one of the better openings to a movie that I can remember off the top of my head. Everything was going great.

Then he got flashy. Tried to take over the movie and add his own flair to it when it really wasn't needed.

He never fully lost me because it is a good movie, maybe a very good movie, but a few "Tarantino-esque" scenes ended up ruining it for me, keeping it well below the "masterpiece" he so boldly claimed it was, at least in my opinion.

I'll still give it an 8/10, would have been a 7.5/10 or lower without Christoph Waltz.

To be fair I've only seen Pulp Fiction and a part of Kill Bill vol. 1 (couldn't finish that), but Tarantino just doesn't quite make it for me and I doubt I'll ever really see what everyone else sees in him.

You definitely need to watch Reservoir Dogs.

Looking forward to go scuba diving during the weekend. If the temperature is shitty, i'll go watch Inglorious Basterds though.

You should really try to finish off the Kill Bill movies. Vol 2 was amazing IMO.

I just read that Walt Disney are gonna buy Marvel for 4B$ !!!

It's got potential to go both ways. I'm hoping Disney stays the f*ck out of Marvel's business and just wants profits from their movies (kind of like the partnership between WB and DC). They own Miramax and Touchstone too and don't have a history of screwing with them. But I don't want to see any Hannah f*cking Montana in my books.

Spider-Man fighting with Obama was cheesy enough.
