johnnyhasbeen
Hi just found this site, and i have to say that trade talks seem to be on everyones minds. Wouldn't it seem like a bad idea to give away any of our future players, Perezhogin and Hossa? Maybe for a Foresburg but get real, You don't give your youth up for a quick fix unless you are in a now or never search for the cup like Toronto is this year, Keep the youth, they will be ready in 2 years when we resume play. Also we will be rid of the big contracts by then and can dump the deadwood. Gainey should and will add player or 2 but he isn't about to give up the future for the now when even if we got Jagr Gaunter and Holik we wouldn't be contenders. We are a 2nd round team at best this year, get use to it. Hopefully the boys play over thier heads and we go the distance but that would involve Morenz and Richards ghosts finding the Bell and it ain't happened yet. But 2 seasons from now. look out.:ghg::hlogo:::

puck7x
Hey johnny ... Welcome to HW ... I'm against the idea of trading prospects in general , but their are some situations where trading a prospect does make sense. Lets say we have the chance to acquire a guy like Ryan Smyth , Ryan Smyth is the exact type of player the habs need , he's big (thickness) , tough , gritty , he is a warrior ... And he is 28 ... 28 years old is not very old. Would you not trade a 19-21 year old prospect if thats what it takes to acquire the type of player the habs have been after for years? Someone who fits right into our team ... Also keep in mind that most of our prospect play the same style of game (finesse players , not overly physical) ... Keep the prospects , but if an oppurtunity like that comes along , we can spare one or two ... We are one of the deepest team in the NHL in terms of prospects anyways... YukonFan
RYan Smith would probably be the best addition ever to the Habs (for the exception of Ken Dryden of course). We have now plenty of young players this year that will contribute for the next 10 years. The Habs are choked about the play and attitude of Hainsey and Hossa and these two could be very attractive for a team like Edmonton if the Oilers are ready to place a bet on them. YES! Lets get Ryan Smith with Koivu and Zednik and hope for the best. It will come. If not this year we will be so much better with him for the next 5 years. johnnyhasbeen
Remember last year when this guy couldn't crack the regular line up? He was in a make it or go situation this year, and what happened? Now consider Hossa and hainsley's situations. If we have a lock out, which we probably will they have another year of developement to prove they can cut the mustard. It won't hurt as much to go into the playoffs this year and finish early as it would to give up young talent for a fix that is short term, yes Smyth would be great but we don't need another trade blunder. Hang on to the youth and add a short term free agent if it doesn't cost us the future. We aren't in Toronto's boat of having no youth to talk about, no drafts worth talking about and now or never if the talks produce a salary cap. Hang in there, do our best with what we have and think of the future. We have so much depth there that the future is brite, don't blow it.:hlogo:
