  1. I like the deal for the Capitals. Erat is an excellent player, 50-60 point winger who is an excellent playmaker. Underrated because all forwards in Nashville are underrated. Forsberg is 18 and all but that doesn't mean he'll become a better player than Erat. Erat will fit quite well in Washington and he's signed for three more seasons on a fair contract.

Not sure any of us here would have like if we traded Collberg for those 2 players. We all like Collberg and know he was supposed to be a 1st round pick, not above Filip Forsberg who went 11th, but at least somewhere below him in the 1st round. We would be shocked if we made that deal. Erat would make no sense with the Habs as he wouldn't improve or complement Plekanec and DD, and it doesn't make any sense to me to see him with the Caps who have Ribeiro and Backstrom as much better centers. The only way it could make sense is if they think Erat could wake up the beast that was Joel Ward in Nashville's playoff run a couple years ago.

  2. Bergevin talking to the media right now in French. Main points:

    - Satisfied from 23-7 record

    - Deadline Day started 2 months ago. Today was only the buzzer.

    - Lots of discussions, but proud where they are at now.

    - Objective is making playoffs, so happy of where they are at now

    More from Bergevin:

    - Looking to improve the team, but also looking for years to come

    - We have 6 choices in top 90. Those are very important picks for years to come. We didn't lose any of those picks

    - No guarantee in hockey. (We can buy at the deadline and lose in the 1st round) Priority is making playoffs

    - Yes glad of the good chemistry. It'd take a very bad piece to break it. It didn't prevent me from making a trade.

    - Kaberle is an outstanding person. He is training hard and we never knows if we'll need him in the playoffs.

    - About Kristo: Very good season, offensive talent, things to develop before going to the next level.

    - You can never have too much dmen, if you want to go deep in the playoffs

    - There is no contractual reasons behind the fact Kaberle isn't playing.

    - 2nd journalists ask : "So it has nothing to do about buying him out?" Answer: "No, we evaluate other players, dmen in Hamilton". 3rd journalists: "It's not that you don't want him to get hurt?" Answer: "No, not at all. He played against the Islanders, so if we didn't wanted him to play he wouldn't have". 4th journalist: "so what's up with Kaberle.." Answer "blablaa.. those other dmen are getting evaluated, they are the future of the Habs"

  3. He already has been assigned there.

Nice.. Will we see him with the Habs this playoffs!? We'll see!

Kinda like Chris Kreider with the Rangers last year. He scored some big goals in their playoff run, after playing at Boston College a couple weeks before.

  4. From the sounds of it the Habs made an offer for him but Phoenix went with the Sharks. That would suggest to me that Montreal put their own 3rd rounder in play (since they don't have a 4th this year to offer); when it comes down to it the 3rd from SJ would be better than the MTL one.

I'd have offered our own 2nd round pick, which is a very late pick, so slightly better than the 3rd pick they got from SJ.

  5. With no other news today, it's thread-worthy. Of note, it's a 2 year deal commencing this season. Financial terms were not disclosed, I'd expect to see a considerable amount of bonuses in there.

That's some great news. Any indication that he'll be joining the Dogs any time soon?

  6. Bergevin didn't make any trade in his 1st Deadline Day!

Why holding to all those 2nd round picks? 5th for Comeau, 4th for Smithson, price wasn't that high.

Torres moved for a 3rd (!) round pick to a division rival(!!). There were other interesting options.

    I don't understand this.

I like our team but thought we had room to add.

  7. You believe a player who knows that he's gonna get bought out when the summer comes will give 100% to his "team" ?

    I don't.

He is not the same in that situation. I believe they are professionals and play to win the Cup or, if nothing else, for their next contract$$

If the Habs aren't playing Kaberle because of the buyout, they likely wouldn't play Cammalleri or anyone else acquired that would be bought out. It's about protecting the cap space for next year. So trading for him would make little sense.

Plus, with reports that Armstrong's regular season is over, the focus will likely be on bringing in a depth guy to take his spot.

I know it's very unlikely we get Cammalleri. The injury/buyout argument is valid also. I'm not a big fan of that practice though. To not play a player for fear of injury is far-fetch to me.

  8. The Habs are fifth in goals per game and second in five on five scoring.

There is no reason to panic and bring in a guy like Cammalleri until we know for sure if the team has trouble scoring in the post season. In other words, no sense this season but maybe next season as a pure rental.

yes but offense is spread out. If we need a goal to stay alive with 2 minutes left, which wingers do you send out? That's why we've been talking about adding a goal scorer like Jagr and Iginly. Those 2 are gone, and someone on the board suggested the name of Cammy. Many seem to have forget he scored 13 goals in 19 games in the playoffs of 2010, and just remember how he became useless and a peripheral player the next season. He didn't fit in the team anymore, and we needed players like Bourque. Now the team has changed considerably. We've got many good wingers that go the net, but lack the sniper. Ryder is one, but a serious team that want to go deep can't seriously rely on him as their main sniper option. I have big hopes for Pacioretty and honestly believe he can reveal himself as a force this offseason and get us many GWG. Adding a sniper like Jagr/Iggy/Cammy/other suggestion???? wouldn't hurt, as adding a Torres wouldn't hurt our toughness.

Trading for someone we can buy out at the end of the season sure sounds like a crappy plan to me.

What ?% There's plenty of rental players been sought for today and in the past couple weeks.

Cammy cost about 2M more than Kaberle to but out. How much revenues a single playoff home game is worth? There's your answer.

  9. Interesting comment from Wilson (SJ's GM) : Want to add a veteran D. "You always need 8 or 9 dmen to be able to compete going deep in the playoffs"

well, Wilson just added Scott Hannan, less than 30 minutes after saying that line on air on TSN

  10. We are in 2013. I thought that we had too many small players in the lineup. Two years older doesn't make him taller, but sure makes him slower. No, he really is not a solution. Bourque will do a better job tham him and he is close to being ready. Don't live in the past.

    ??

He's 30... much younger than Iggy or Jagr

Cammy looks a lot worse given that the cap is set to fall and he's a $6 million cap hit. He's a bit like Luongo in that sense - nobody doubts, or at least nobody with any sense would doubt, that he'd be an impact addition, but do you really want to be on the hook for that salary given the CBA situation? A team that's going 'all in' to win might do it, but I don't get the impression that that is how MB wants to run his operation.

the only way that a deal would work with CGY is if they take Kaberle as part of the deal. Then we can buyout Cammy in the Summer.
