  1. On utilizing assets: how do you utilize the small AHL or 5th liners we are stocked with. Pleks and Gally should be the only small forwards on this team. Andrighetto OR Hudon also if they have talent. I also would have kept Cammi . I hate the signings of small borderline Nhlers. They are not an asset

  2. I hope all the kids shine in Sept and make Bergevin's choice very difficult. Maybe even on back end with Dietz having another 'brilliant' training camp, as described by Lapointe last year (very very low, near zero, odds Dietz could even bump Pateryn/Tinordi, but who knows, he was a very dedicated, driven and determined kid in junior).

What about Lernout or Thrower, any word on their chances?
  3. I guess I was watching a different player the end of last season and playoffs. I would definitely rotate Markov and Petry on top and second pair to lower Markov's minutes. Really was impressed with Beaulieu's play as a 2nd pair guy. He isn't quite there to be a dependable, really solid 2nd pair guy, but if he continues to improve he can be there mid/late season. Emelin is a great 3rd pair guy, as long as he starts hitting like Emelin again. His hits per game dropped from 3.2 per game to 3, but to me it seemed he wasn't throwing those big, impact hits. Maybe it was just me, but I didn't notice him hitting as much this season.

Now on to my tangent. For christ's sakes, can we trade Desharnais already? He has value. Any 3.5m per year 50 pts guy does. He disappears in physical games a.k.a the playoffs (0.34 PPG vs 0.62 PPG regular season, career numbers). He has chemistry with Pacioretty which helped Pacioretty early in his career, but last season Pacioretty showed he can play with both Plekanec and Galchenyuk at center. Pacioretty's production is no longer dependent on Desharnais as it was a couple of years ago. I firmly believe if Desharnais, Fucale and a pick or another prospect were packaged we could easily pick up a player with size that could produce as much as, or more than Desharnais at a winger. Couture? Pavelski? Both put up better numbers and have size. Tatar? Henrique? B.Schenn? Grabner? Pulled these names off the PPG list somewhere for last season all except the 2 sharks were within 0.10 PPG of Desharnais last year. There are options other there, I really think we need to be exploring trading Desharnais for upgrade in size and goal scoring.

    Tangent over.

The trade DD ship sailefd last week. It had to be done at the draft or UFA period.

  4. So let's just get rid of all the small players for nothing. That's a great way to utilize assets. He's a serviceable depth NHL'er making just shy of the league minimum. There is nothing to complain about here, unless you want to keep harping on the size. Here's hoping you don't choose to complain about every smallish player every time their name gets brought up. Complaining about the same thing or two over and over doesn't tend to go over well here.

He wanted out of Montreal badly from what I heard the other day. He apparently was none too pleased about his lack of NHL time and wanted to go elsewhere.
I forgot our management is smarter than everyone else. I will keep harping on size as long as we get useless small players like Bourn,Mitchell, Flynn. It's been proven you can't win with Smurfs. Hawks aren't big,but they are the only exception, and we have no Kane. Look how Ottaw and Tampa's big dmen kept their net clear. Our forwards were too weak, small or scared to get rebounds and screen goalies. It's ridiculous our power forward is 5'8

complaintsng about management doesn't seem to go well here

  5. We would have to take back salary or another bad contract. Keep Pleks at #2,Eller at #3.No team has win a cup being as weak down the middle as us in at least 10 years. If Galch can make the transition then we're cup contenders, but that's asking alot of a 21 yo LW.Habs should have played him there all last year instead of worrying about reg season division title. We still would have easily made playoffs

Could DD be considered a top flight 3rd line centre in the NHL?

Can you get a like centre for $3.5m?

If so, who is that centre?

no and no.We have a top flight #2 and #3 center. #1 center will cost $7m ish
  6. Holy great pumkin back to this? ok the year Bob let koivu kovy etc leave he wasn't letting them leave for nothing, he looked at the free agent market and figured what he could get for dumping almost half the team. Why trade for deadwood when you can simply take the money and buy what you want. It did not work out perfect but we had a better team after the great purge than before. Yeah I know Gomez, well that was a mistake. But an honest one that worked for a while who knew Gomez would tun into into an ahl wanna be?. He had been a damn good player before that, and you have to remember that Bob was replacing the leadership of the team. Koivu complained about Carbo, so Bob fired him, the team went into a complete tank. Maybe Carbo wasn't so bad. Had a winning record when fired, piss poor when Bob took over behind the bench. I guess carbo was a better coach than Bob. BTW he made Kovalev an offer, Kovy waited too long and Bob pulled the trigger, there was no room for Kovy any more and he promptly fell off the charts. Translation he went to Ottawa and that worked out real good. Loved his talent but he was the epitome of an enigmatic peckerhead.

BG also made a 5/22.5 offer to Komi, just to let you know before the revisionists come out to say how brilliant he was for not resigning him

I doubt Bergevin would of let Souray, Kovalev & Koivu walk for SFA.

Not a Bergevin fan,but he would have stockpiled some nice assets for those Ufas we list for over the years
  7. There is not a fan base in Pro sports that sticks up for management, coaches and ownership over players like Habs fans. It's comical and a big slice of the blame pie why 93 is the last year we won the cup. This fanbase would fawn over MB if he made the Roy trade today

  8. Scherbak dominated on the Silvertips with 82 points in 65 games. Second to him was Carson Stadnyk with 69 points in 71 games. An 11 point lead is impressive. Around February, Scherbak was 8th in WHL scoring. His coach did nothing but gush about how he's grown as an all-around player.

I think way, way too much stock goes into how good a player was in junior.

He scored 27 goals both years,3 in 11 playoff games. Against teenagers. He needs a few years
  9. Emelin is garbage and is most certainly top priority to moved this off season. Bottom pair D making top four cash.

There are some players that fit garbage tag (Buff ex pats for ex) but no way Emelin. Bargain @ $4m, especially seeing what Petry got
  10. I agree, he is no good in the playoffs, due to the lack of size and/or footspeed needed to escape the heightened levels of obstruction.

But in the regular season, he is a good, if somewhat one-dimensional. player. Much better than all the loathing would suggest.

One thing I agree with MB: you need playoff type performers. That seems way underrated on this site, and its why PK is our greatest player and should be Captain
  11. Hmmm. By hitching their wagon to this idiot and famous problem child Evander Kane, are the Sabres buying a whole pack of trouble? Time will tell, I guess, but this suuuuure doesn't look good. Oy.

On the other hand, it kind of underscores the value of the Habs' 'great room' and the character of dudes like Pacioretty and Price. We seem, at least, to be light years removed from this kind of nonsense, or the lunacy that befell LA last year.

Many teams and champs recently have had a couple of problem child's.I'll trade a cup or two for a couple of non choir boys.

The running away is what got me. He posts pictures of his truck during the day, then what, he thinks nobody will notice his truck stuck in the front of Tim Horton's. At least be a man and wait for the cops. Just stooopid.

    1951 pickup truck,lol
  12. Sheldon Souray has officially retired. Anyone care? He had some great moments as a Hab.

I care. He was one of my favorite Habs of the early- mid 2000s. We all remember his instant defense of Kouvu vs Pens when Armstrong ran him. While 3 or 4 Habs just skated away. Too bad about his wrist injuries. Great on the pp and great fighter. Always stuck up for teammates immediately. That's where we will miss Prust. Cheapshots will once again be dealt with by barking chihuahuas
  13. Top 2?

Not a chance, other than the 42 hits he had, he adds zero offense.

Even Gilbert was more effective with more blocked shots, 5pts in the 12 games and played same pk time as Emelin.

And how can you say he was better than Subban or Petry and Markov played vs tougher match-ups and ton more icetime.

So #4 or even 5 he was.

But, would prefer to see him in a Habs jersey for this year for sure, but would mean that a darn large % of cap is spent on defense, which isn't 'ideal'.

He was better than Markov in the playoffs and better than PK or Petry on their off nights. Nice 2 nd pair with Petry. And you may hate physical hockey but it's so important to have forwards thinking they may get drilled. Well worth the 4.1 cap hit. Gilbert? How many giveaways and soft plays can he do. Stiff imo

For the regular season I would trade Gilbert, mainly because his contract would make him much more tradeable than Emelin's would. Emelin is a solid #5D, and I would keep him there. For the post-season, I would trade Markov..no doubt! In the meantime:

    Beaulieu-Subban

    Markov-Petry

    Emelin-Pateryn

    Tinordi

  14. When Scherbak is 'on' he shows some super skill and dangling and really does remind me of Galchenyuk.

And maybe as he and Constantine have said over and over, he was working hard at other end of rink trying to improve his play away from puck, his team wasn't a offensive powerhouse and he was far and away best player on his team for 2nd straight year.

And he also has admitted more consistency in his game is needed, which likely goes for 99.9% of teenagers looking to make it as a pro.

As WHL PBP guys said he can be electric in his play...but also invisible some nights.

But, I had hoped he might have a "Gallagher" type WHL year with 40+ goals.

Saviour? Bit over the top, but he surly could be a sweet addition to the top six, if all the stars align and he puts in a rookie of year debut season this or next year

I hope you're right,I just think it's way too much to expect top 6 production at NHL for a few years.
  15. I do wish people would quit acting as if DD is nothing but pure unadulterated crap. He's a one-dimensional, second-tier playmaking C. But in the regular season, at least, he is reliably productive; playmaking has value, after all.

He's a joke in the playoffs. You can't base everything on stats. He's a one dimensional playmaker who frequently dogs it on the back check. No place for him on this up and coming team
