  1. Gainey probably has as good a career winning % as any GM since Sam Pollock. Take a look at his record in Dallas.

It's true he does have a great record from 92-2002. However he did have the likes of Modano Hull Belfour etc for most of this time. He did have a lot of money to burn too. Though the Stars did well, but don't compare him to Sam pollock and his 10 to 12 stanley cups

  2. The Habs' next home date is a week from tomorrow. I think it's really, really important to the Habs' playoff chances this season that Kovalev not be (unjustifiably) booed during that game, but I think the question of whether or not this will happen is still in the balance. If you're a Habs fan, I say, do everything you can in the next 8 days to convince the Habs fan community to not boo Kovalev at the next game, or face the inevitability of the already-nearly-inevitable missing of the playoffs.

I don't think Kovalev wants to leave - at least I don't think he wanted to leave yesterday. This almost makes me want to get traded as a fan! It's heartbreaking to watch engines powered by my own fan interest - i.e. La Presse and RDS, in this case - contribute to the failure of the team that generates that interest. By being a fan, I'm ultimately making the team worse...

If the habs don't do well in the next few games not only will he be booed but the team will be as well. Frankly I think they deserve it, the whole team the coach the GM and the star players like Koivu and Kovy. Our fans have been great all year selling out every game. What do we get in return a team that is sucking big time. meanwhile teams with empty stadiums like the Isles and the Devils are heading to the playoffs.

  3. I would not go that far, but do agree that Bob Gainey does have hockey knowledge most of us armchair G.M.'s just don't have. Experience... Stanley Cup experience with the old time hockey Habs in the past. I may not be Mr. Gainey's biggest fan, however I am glad he is running the club instead of someone with no experience. Plus you do have to give people time to do their job.

Let's not misinterpret being a great hockey player with being a great GM. Lou Lamariello is a great GM, but he wasn't a great hockey player. Gainey was unquestionably a great hockey player. His work as a GM leaves a lot to be desired. Neither do great hockey players make great coaches Carbo and Grets are you listening -

  4. Funny thing we could have gotten Briere for just about nothing when he was with Phoenix- and he showed signs of being a great playmaker even then. I really dont like our defence. We need a defenceman coach. You think Jacques Laperrierre will come back. As the old Gilbert Dionne line, the defence looks like its running around like a chicken without a head. Anyways it is a little early to be talking free agents. After the way Carbo has treated Samsonov it may be very difficult to lure anyone to Montreal.

  5. He is really the quiet man behind the bench. What exactly are his duties? Does he take care of the defence or the penalty killing or what. I always wondered about him and Carbo together. They played virtually the same role with the Canadians. They seem redundant. Why dont the Habs have a defenceman coach?

  6. not a bad question. my point is that we're not losing games because our 4th line psycho winger is not playing well. we're losing games because the guys that are supposed to win us games have disappointed. jesus, if huet had have been mediocre through the first 30 games, we might be in flyer-zone.

I didn't say we were losing games because of Begin. i said he has been a disaster. The reason we are losing games is because of our defence right now including Dandenault Bouillon and Id add Komisarek. Markov could play a lot better as well. As for the goalies arghhh are they bad.

  7. Mark Streit played 9 minutes for Mtl. As a forward.

*****ing chinless, squash faced dimwit Julien! He just loved short ugly French speaking journeymen defensemen, like himself back in the day. Now the team is stuck with Bouillon and Dandenault for another two years, and a utilily man like Streit.

I totally agree with you about Dandenault and Bouillon. Dandenault has stunk the last 10 games and Bouillon little better. It is no great surprise that the habs were playing really well without them at the start of the year.

As for Streit, I totally disagree. I think he has been the unsung hero this year. As for Hainsey I saw him against the habs he has not improved that much. The problem is Komisarek has not raised his play much more either. I dont think Komi is much better then Hainsey right now.

  8. Dandenault has been godawful the last few games and Bouillon barely better and they have been less then adequate all year. It is no great coincidence the canadiens began to slide when they became regulars after their injuries. Apparently it has not dawned on Carbo yet. Begin has been a disaster as well this year.

  9. I am still keeping faith in Gainey (till THIS offseason anyway).....But don't you think the development of negativity on the board is kind of related to the way the team is going these days. I mean we've gone from a contender, to a pretender and have made some questionable moves (or non-moves).

I dont think I'd want to be a part of a forum where everyone thought every move a GM made was wonderful and didnt question anything....nor one where a team went from 21-8 to barely .500 and thought everything was rosy.....There is lots be negative about, is the point. Especially when you are a fan of this glorious team and expect MUCH BETTER!!

This about sums up my thoughts for the trade deadline past...not much to ask

I dont think we would have criticized Bob if this was the first year he had stood pat. However, he is doing this every year. We cannot attract free agents so our only real option is to build with draft choices and good young players. We should have traded Souray to get those young good players

  10. Kevin Lowe squeezed everything out of his players last year when they went to the finals. He was a buyer last year when he got Roloson and it worked. Lowe was realistic this year the Oilers are going nowhere. I think Smyth sealed his fate with that remark a day ago that finally they decided to negotiate. Lowe took that as a slap in the face. He made a good move getting 3 players for a rental. Smyth was probably sick and tired of being a nobody in a hick town like Edmonton. He will show his talent in some big market soon. I doubt the Islanders will sign him next year.

Gainey was lost as to whether he was a buyer or seller and he turned out to be neutered.
