  1. Yeah, he's hardly going to say "I'm looking to trade one or both of these guys", but we all know that capwise it's next to impossible to keep Plex. We'd have to unload one of Hammer/Spaceman (good luck) + another contract or two just for starters, not counting the salaries of whomever we get back. Plus with Gainey's hard on for Price, I don't see signing Halak as his priority. I hope I'm wrong because I like the kid, but I think he's as good as gone, and if you put a gun to my head, I'd say so is Plex. And for all of you who liked the Gomez trade and are having second thoughts now, just wait until Andrei Kostitsyn is due for a re-up. In spite of that though, I'm not sure I fully buy the "this is your roster and we're sentenced to mediocrity if it stays the same" argument, since honestly, how many games have we played with a full, or close to full roster this year? Call me naive, but I feel this team is still gelling. And even though we were badly burned last year, you CAN and SHOULD expect to replenish from within the organization, and contrary to all the doom and gloom, we STILL have a pretty decent prospect base.

As far as obvious weaknesses, I think this year specifically we're a little short on solid, reliable D, so if we're looking for an upgrade, i would look for (a cheap) one in that direction. This may look better next year, because again, we do have good defensive prospects who will have a legitimate shot at making the roster (PK, Weber) and contributing. OB is due for a significant raise if we pick up his option, but Mara is coming off the books and can be replaced more cheaply.

first of all i dont think plek, halak, or the Kostitsyn was part of the habs future at the begining off the season..now that plek as play great a bunch of fans as jump on the wagon....so win win for us if bob keeps him it looks like he can be a good nhl player,if we trade him we should get somthing good for him..win win..

halak well be trade...his a good goalie but most of his games are against the weaker teams, like tonight after price played was, buf halak gets the start against florida to bliud his number...win win halak happy he gets to play, bob gets to watch halak add value to him self and sits and waits for the phone to ring..

at least one of the Kostitsyn well be trade but i bet they both go in a package deal..

i think we are going to see the habs make a lot of trade before next season..

  2. "favourite" is the key word here. Martin didnt like Lats so he didnt cut him any slack. On the other hand, Pacioretty plays 15 mins per game with PP time, but is all flash and dazzle. He has 3 goals in 44 games, on pace for 5 in 81 game. On top of that he's not nearly physical enough, trying to play a finesse game rather than using his size. But Martin loves him. Seems that Martin favors any player that skates fast, regardless if he can actually do anything.

so if martinndidnt like him what was the reason? martin been around the game for along time so if martin didnt like him iam sure lats must had issues on the team..i didnt really think martin didnt like lats but he just didnt fit into the team we are trying to build..if your coach keeps telling you to go to the net and you wont do it, you might not keep your job long..

  3. I know it's not all about the goals scored, but you have to admit that the whole point of playing is to SCORE GOALS...so it is the MOST important thing!

Latendresse was not a favourite of Jacques Martin (he was playing 11 minutes per game) so he was shipped out of town. now he get decent minutes in Minneapolis (15-16 minutes per game) and he's producing...go figure!!

yea i see what your saying, same thing happen to ryder here, guy put him on the 4th line and then everone got piss because ryder couldnt score only playing 4 mins a night...but i think pouliot bring more to the table then latendresse..but the way coaches use players can break or make a season..i hope latendresse playes good in minny, but i think we got the better all around player..

  4. Good luck on that. Too many people here think the ONLY reason a team wins or loses is Carey Price.

I mean i agree that the weak US dollar, global warming, H1N1 is all Price's fault, but all the games the habs lose come on.

luck for the habs most people here dont run the team...they just talk like they do and anyone that dont agree with them just gets drove crazy fighting about it with them and stop posting..the fact is some people well never be happy..we got the best young goalies in the nhl..i listen to all the leafs, boston(yesterday one told me the leafs goalies are top 5 in the nhl) fans hating on me at work, i hate coming on here and seeing habs fans doing the same but truth is most people only see what they what to see..iam not sure why some guys hate price or halak because both as play great..

  5. i really think we are set in goal for the next 5 years no matter who we keep..i like price the most and think his going to be great..but halak is also a great goalie..so win win..

i think we should stop fighting about price sucking and start talking about what we need to win and who we might bring in....

  6. I completely agree with COlin. I think it's safe to say that we all believe that Price has more talent than Halak, the big difference however is in their attitudes. Price seems nonchalant too many times. Lack of concentration... (the 3rd goal last night was a perfect example of that)

If he had Halak's work ethic, he's be top 5 in the league. I think we should start playing our goalies according to their wins. If you lose a game, the other goalie goes in. Maybe it'll motivate Price a little more.

That being said, i'm not ready to give up on the kid. He just needs to mature some more.

he still made 39 saves last night...halak is 2 more years older then price(mature)..i dont think their is another 22 year old kid i would what in net for the habs in the nhl..the problem with price is he plays in montreal..look at roberto luongo when he was in florida, making 39 saves a night and still losing all the time..no matter how good of a goalie you are you let in bad goals and the more shots you get the bigger chance of you letting in bad goals..

halak is a good goalie, price is a good goalie..the reason we are losing is not the goalie fault..

  7. I think it's too early to say that!

In case you hadn't Noticed, Guillaume has 7 goals in 18 games with the Wild. If he keeps it up, he'll score 22 goals this year(in 62 games with the Wild.)

its not all about who scores the most goals..if it was we would of never let ryder leave...I for one thinks pouliot is a all around better player..if he adds more weight it could really up his game..boy needs to hit the gym..

  8. price acts like that because he hates losing..same as roy did...sidney crosby is the same way, these guys get so piss off and show it on the ice, which i love..i hate guys who dont care and just what their pay check..if you think guys dont play hard in front of price because they dont like him..thats crazy..hockey players dont make it to the nhl with attitude like that(for most part), they end up sitting in their basement writing on forms like this wondering why some 22 year old kids as not won the cup yet..give me a break, this goalie sh*t is getting old..

  9. I never said any such thing. I never said it was to make Price look good, nor did I put any blame on Price. I simply stated a fact that they are sitting back, again. Maybe it is because they are playing better teams, but I think that is bs. If they were playing such weak teams with Halak, they sure looked crappy defensively doing it. There is a ton of parity in this league and the difference is not the teams they are playing, but the way they are playing against those teams. Maybe they have more confidence with Halak, or maybe they have more confidence offensively against some of those teams.

I have no idea why they are playing this way, but the fact is they are not giving Price the offensive support they need to, and it is not making Price look good, it makes him look bad in the win column. 3 shots or 5, its not going to help them win. By the way, Washington is not a good defensive team in the slightest.

ok, i dont really care as long as we win..maybe we should put halak in so we could score...

  10. Boys took an awesome 3 shots on net in the first.. I swear these guys play much more defensively with Price in net. People wonder why they score more with Halak.. maybe because they try to.... They can't sit back this much and hope to keep it close..

IF THEY TRY TO PLAY MORE DEF WITH PRICE IN NET THEY SHOULD DO A BETTER JOB...i cant believe you think there game plan is to make price looks good lol..they score more when halak is in net because the teams halak played against were worst teams..for the most part..now its price fault we cant score lol

  11. i dont think mab well get 2 mil...s kostitsyn will be traded, same as his brother i would think...halak well be trade..

Thing is, Pyatt and White make more than Lapierre/D'Agostini and only a bit less than Metropolit. So they'd actually cost more - this is the main reason why D'Ags is still on the Habs right now. But the team, barely clawing for a playoff spot now will be fine without its leading point getter next year? Let's use your numbers a bit:

Pouliot + S. Kostitsyn - small raises so combined let's say 2 mil (less than $200,000 raise per player).

Pyatt (RFA) + White + Lapierre (I'm putting him in as he'll be re-signed): Let's say $2.75 mil

    Price: 3 mil, backup TBD: 750 k = 3.75 mil

    MAB: $2 mil

Total spent: $10,500,000 on only 8 players - still 2 potential roster spots left and we're already over the hypothetical cap of 55.

I'm sorry, I can't see how the team would be fine in that regard - weaker goaltending and less scoring on a team that can't score as is.

There's ways to get around the cap short term, but don't tell me that Philly'll be on easy street in 3 years when Pronger retires and he's counting against the cap at around 6 mil for 3 more years. Ditto Hossa in Chicago amongst others. Look at the calculations above, doesn't take long to spend 10 million without Plekanec. In Montreal's case, the only way to get back into decent shape is to buy out players, but the prime candidates are either always hurt and would be able to block a buyout (Laraque) or were over 35 when they signed so there's no potential savings (Spacek).

Oh, by the way, I've yet to even mention the overage cap hit that's coming for next year which looks like it'll be around $500,000 unless something changes. That's right, the Habs cannot afford the players they have now (that one's for matsnaslundsuperfan); if nothing changes on the roster before year's end, that'll be even less to spend next season.

Plain and simple, management shot themselves repeatedly in the foot this summer and whoever's running the team this offseason is going to suffer dearly.

  12. I heard on RDS last night that apparently, the reason why AK46 struggled so much in the first 25 games was that he came into training camp in horrible shape. It took him 2 months just to get back into game shape!

maybe, he looked fat in the face....but its from rds so who knows.......

  13. Cant we all just get along..iam a betting man and i bet gomez is not going anywhere as the team was build around him..(unless tampa bay trades vinny to us,ever i dont think that might be the greatest move, but habs fan what him)

i been thinking that why no ones wearing the C this year, maybe bob got a trade in place for vinny but waiting for the end of the year so the cap would work this year...lol i hope this gets everyone going

  14. Well, assuming we do make a trade (Halak, etc) to get this other top-6 forward... where do we put him? Who gets bumped off the top 2 lines? I frankly don't see any room for another top-6 guy... I want Pouliot to stay on the 2nd line - I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

I would think we need one more quality defenseman - a top 4 guy. That means someone the likes of Mara/Gorges/Gill/O'Byrne would have to go. Not sure if O'Byrne can be sent back to Hamilton without being subject to waivers, but that would be my first choice. Gill is very good on the PK, we might want to hang on to him as a "specialist" (like we've done with MAB). Mara hasn't impressed me, but dare we unload a free agent that we just signed? Does that send a positive message to future free agents we want to sign? (same applies with Gill). That leaves Gorges - I like the guy and he plays his heart out, but he's just a little short on talent and size. Maybe he's the expendable one...

i think bob well try and move A Kostitsyn also and that well free up the other top 6 foward spots...we know want well happen to A Kostitsyn when we trade his brother...i think we well dump both guys before the olympias..if not i see them running to the khl, well at least S olympia well..
