    You have to cover your ass if these guys are not ready. This is a long term plan in which fans are looking for short term results.

    What if they started the season with O'Byrne and Lapierre and they both stunk the joint out. Now what do you do? Rush somebody else up.

    Brisebois and Smolinski were brought in to bridge the gap, very cheaply I might add. They have done an average to poor job, but at least Bob has options. Let's hope that these two are ready to go and are committed to the system and will make a difference.

    you pick up Recchi....their guys like Brisebois and Smolinski poping up on waviers all the time, if it wasnt for bob i dont think Brisebois would even be in the nhl this year..i just like the young guy getting a shot and if we going bring somthing in we need first lines..we got so many great 2nd and 3rd line players..and with the cap now you got to save as much money as you can so you can make a big trade to make the team better.

    see this makes me made, most fans want these guys to start the year with us, but we go out and sign a couple ufa we didnt need, and now we bring up the young guy to make us better and we are stuck with a couple of ufa we didnt really need to sign and i think most people seen this coming.you shouldnt sign people just to sign people and we keep doing it year after year..

    Nobody's gonna do crap all on lines with Ryder and Streit.

    the thing you got to look at is no matter who you put on the first line with Higgin and Koivu, their not playing any better and their running out of scapegoats...so you cant blame ryder,striet, Kovy,Smolinski,Latendresse,Kostopoulos for the first line..

    If there aren't a lot of options out there at this time of year, either:

    a) make them an offer they can't refuse (not Ryder and Huet; more like Koivu, another experienced player, a prospect plus our draft choice next year - that at least will get noticed)

    b ) bide your time, hope that it turns around because it's still early for us too.

    Option a anyone?

    I firmly think Koivu had his last push last year. He has been great for us, no doubt; but to ask him to still be the first line ctr, the first option, the focal point on O, is bordering on absurd. He's 34? Had cancer? Bad injuries? Give him a chance to reduce his minutes (3rd line?) and, with more energy, maybe be more effective. Or trade him to some team that will.

    By the way, does Smoked's no-movement-clause mean he can't even be waived???

    i really think koivu dont agree with the coaches much and his not happy with the way the team is going, i believe he wants to win and he dont believe their on the right road..Koivu wants a cup and he dont think deep down their close to it with this team. i love koivu, and he is all heart but bob got to bring in someone to help him out, i dont think right not we have a lot of first line players, we got alot of great 2nd and 3rd line players, but i really believe we are two players away from being great

    I have been a firm believer for a while now that Carbo is not the right coach for this team.

    Even with a better coach, we still need some more players. Enough with the 3rd and 4th liners.

    ok i agree with you that carbo got alot to learn..i know most guys dont like ryder, but i dont know how you going to get him going on the 4th line, his one of the only 30th goal scores on the team..Other goal score had bad starts and the coachs wait it out and they are scoring now..Ryder was told in the off season that he had to work on his all around game, which he as improve on..look want bonk as done this year on a different team..Iam not saying i dont like carbo but i think he should learn how to work with players better and how to get a player going without benching them or put 30th goal score on the 4th line, with little ice time and hope there scoring touch well come back. to me dont make sense..so we should trade ryder to a team that can use him or play him on one of the top lines..

    you know what i dont mind changing the lines up, but shouldnt we leave them together for a couple of games to see how they work out...i like the lines last game, and i know we fell apart at the end but huet was hurt.. i realy dont think changing the lines every night and hoping it work is going to bring the team together. right now it looks like the coach dont believe in anyone and just hoping it work out and makes him look great. sometimes you got to have faith in your players and let them play it out their self..you got to Build some team spirit

    i dont think Recchi well make this team any better,we already as alot of second line and thrid lines players and we need a really good first line player so it wouldnt make sense for him to come back and i remmber when he left, he was getting cut up just as bad as ryder is now by the fans, so i cant see it. but you never know.

    I was floating around the net this morning and thinking about our Habs. With the salary cap being what it is and realizing that it will be difficult to hold too many superstars in the future the habs should be preparing now. Stock pile young talent that will get the job done inexpensively. On defense I think we are o.k. Our grinder line seems as if it will be o.k for a long while. The third line we can always sign through UFA. Some good solid veterens are always available.

    Now the biggest thing the Habs are in need of has to come through a blockbuster trade. If I were Bob Gainey, and as much as it might be difficult to do this I would trade Price. Every player, announcer, coach and red neck hillbilly is talking about how great this guy is and is going to be. I agree but I'm not blinded by it. He can't shut out our opponents all 82 games of the year. The way we are heading that's what the kid will have to do. While the rumor of his greatness is hot I would send Price, Ryder, Latendresse and a second round pick to Washington for Ovechkin and washingtons 1st round pick. Sign Huet, bring up Halak. Bring up Sergei, and Laps. Develop these kids and get ready to sign Vinny year after next.

    This is the only way I see the habs becoming a serious contender.
