  1. I would anticipate Bob signing Markov to a new long term deal after the first 30 to 45 games of the year based on his overall production.

As for Richards??? I guess we'll need to wait and see what he does.

Bonk = gone via trade at the deadline to a team like the wild or possibly even the pens for a draft pick or a 4th line grinder

Rivet is staying as long as Saku is still in the picture.

Souray??? I love the guy and all and would definitely miss that shot ( when A - he uses it and B - he hits the net ) But I figure he possibly go at the deadline as well but we'll get more compensation for him and if he doesn't go he'll sign as a ufa with any team in the california area, which is very respectable as he truly wants to be a part of his daughters life, unlike some dead beat dad pro athletes.

I think that covers everyone of key importance regarding the previous posts.

  2. I thought about this because of the Souray thread and other threads that turned into arguements about polarized opinions on certain players. I've devised a little rating system.

    * : worthless, not trying hard enough, not enough talent

** : can be helpful, but not much impact, easily replaceable

*** : necessary, but limited upside/needs to step up.

**** : important, team depends on him, could hardly give more, shows up all the time.

***** : vital, team could not live without him.

Now if you want to, here's the game: rate every player based on your opinion, with comments if you want. I'm just ranking players with enough NHL experience to be fairly evaluated.

    FORWARDS

Steve Begin: ***** The true heart of the team, all the players rallies around him.

Radek Bonk: *** Could give more and be more consistent but does his job most of the time

Aaron Downey: ** Not sure Habs need him 82 games a year.

Christopher Higgins: *** Has to prove he can still make an impact regardless of linemates

Mike Johnson: *** Haven't seen him with the Habs yet, but projects as a reliable 3rd-liner

Saku Koivu: **** Needs to go back to his creative, relentless, inspirational-self to be effective.

Alexei Kovalev: ***** His occasionnal nights off are offset by his talent and he stepping up when it counts.

Garth Murray: ** Nice player to have, but limited talent makes his spare parts.

Alexander Perezhogin: *** Needs to round out his game and find his niche.

Tomas Plekanec: **** Might already be the Habs most complete & reliable C.

Mike Ribeiro: *** Shows improvements but must meet expectations once and for all.

Michael Ryder: *** Needs to improve rest of his game or be labeled one-trick pony

Sergei Samsonov: **** Still too early to judge, but is expected to provide lot of offense.

    DEFENSEMEN

Francis Bouillon: **** Never takes a game off and is growing ever more confident.

Mathieu Dandenault: *** Has the experience and speed to be more of a factor.

Mike Komisarek: *** Growing nicely, but upside is high enough to have more room for improvement

Andrei Markov: ***** Habs can barely win without him, as simple as that.

Craig Rivet: **** Hated him for a long time, but has reach a level of experience and consistency

Sheldon Souray: *** Is capable of the best and the worst, needs to be more reliable.

Mark Streit: ** Needs to generate much more offense to be relevant on this team.

    GOALTENDERS

David Aebischer: *** Needs to be more reliable and more of a threat for the starter job.

Cristobal Huet: **** Would be 5-stars if he can repeat last year's exploits.

    Your turn now.

I agree with the majority of what you ranked each player however I would have to give another start to Garth Murray simply because of his hard work and heart, he is like a Begin clone in my mind, and as for Bonk I would have to remove a star due to the fact the he really only came alive in the last 25 games.

  3. Maybe I was a little to harsh in saying shut your mouth. I just get all jacked up when I hear people saying that we should trade one of our most potent weapons. I mean if the kid can put up 30 goals, powerplay or not, with a bad back, imagine what he would of done healthy.

As for the arbitration issue, I don't recall who said but they raised a very good point in stating that just because a player elects to go to an arbitrator doesn't necesarily mean he wants out. What it means is he wants to see what an outsider, a neutral party, feels he's worth in regards to his overall output. As I said earlier i feel the ryder deserves every penny he was awarded and he will not dissapoint.

To Kozed, I do apologise again for saying shut up, there was no malicious intent. I just get so emotional about the Bleu Blanc and Rouge that I loose sight of what I say at times!

Maybe his agent is a hardballer.

The Key word or phrase here is " Agent "

If I'm not mistaken isn't his agent Don Meehan??? If that be the case, he does have the rep of being a very shrewd negotiator, almost the likes of Peter Pocklington

  4. While we're on this whole trade our goal scorers rant why don't we trhow in Begin and Kovalev and Higgins, shit, why don't we just trade the entire f***ing team and get lindros and tucker and whoever else is washed up.

C'mon people, Ryder? Overated? I'll bet whoever made that post would be so lucky as to even get a shot off on an nhl powerplay let alone score a goal.

Who the hell cares where the goals come from as long as they go in, besides Ryder has increased his goal output from his first season to the next, I'm convinced he would have scored at least 40 last year had there not been the lockout.

As for the arbitration, what does it matter, he felt he was worth and deserved more and therefore decided to try it out. I think he's worth the award he was given.

let's just sit back and relax, at least until the season starts before we go and accuse a player of being over rated. if he doesn't produce trade, if he does, shut your mouth!

  5. As per the article on rds.ca the habs have signed defenceman Ryan O'byrne to a 2 year contract.

Here is the article in french. Once it is available in english I will post it...

    http://rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/210337.html

  6. Umm....That would make Tucker a habs?

Must beg to differ on that one.

Once a habs, once a habs.

Oops should have read the whole thread 1st, but good to see I am not the only one feeling that way.

I guess you can say that there are exceptions to every rule. Tucker is excluded from that statement

  7. Height 6.03 -- Weight 190 -- Shoots R

johnson is not small but he doesn't play a physical game. I think he can handle a little scrap but he won't be looking for it. as for koivu, he's not on the big side but he plays a big guy's game...If only he had his brothers size:rolleyes:

as for our need of size, I would love to have a big center but not at all costs...we have to give our team a chance and if they fail, we make changes

Indeed, Johnson used to shy away from the physical side of things, however I can't help but think that Carbo will change that habbit right quick.

I remember watching the second great GUY, it he was not afraid of the physical side of things.

As for the size... you can never have enough size on your roster, especially if your roster is that of the HABS, everyone wants to beat you, in every sense of the word. So yes in my humble opinion we need more size.

  8. although he played in montreal for a while, I think that thread should be under NHL.:P

I thank Desjardins for the great memories and for the stanley cup he helped us win the stanley cup on the day my grandma died.

thanx eric, enjoy your fishing !!

My apologies if i posted the thread in the wrong spot, I just figured it was relevant to go under the habs section simply because he was a HABITANT.

You know once a habs always a habs

  9. As TSN.CA is reporting on their website former habs Eric Desjardins is Hanging up his skates.

    Link: http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=173712&hubname=

Desjardins to call it a career...

" PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Flyers defenceman Eric Desjardins, the second-highest scoring defenceman in team history, will retire this week, a team spokesman said Wednesday.

Flyers spokesman Zack Hill said the 37-year-old Desjardins, a native of Rouyn, Que., was going to make an official announcement Thursday.

A two-time all-star, Desjardins' 17-year career was slowed by injuries in recent seasons. He played only 45 games last season and just 48 two years ago and was not offered a contract by the Flyers this summer.

Desjardins, a seven-time winner of the team's most outstanding defenceman award, had surgery last season to repair a partially dislocated right shoulder and missed 29 games. He missed the 2004 playoffs with a broken arm.

Desjardins spent the last 11 seasons with the Flyers after he was acquired from Montreal in a 1995 deal that also brought John LeClair to Philadelphia. Desjardins had 396 points with the Flyers behind only defenceman Mark Howe's 480.

Desjardins finishes his career with 136 goals, 439 assists and 575 points in 1,143 career games. He was eighth in career games played with the Flyers with 738. He won the Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993. "

I just want to say that it was great having Desjardins on our team for those years and having him be the hero in a few of those games during that cinderella stanley cup run in '93'. On behalf of all habs fans we wish Eric all the best.

  10. If the pick(s) are fairly decent ones, then I wonder why everyone would be poo-pooing this idea.

Comrie for Ryder would solve our issues in the middle of the rink. Morris for Souray is something of a downgrade in terms of offensive capability, but I think it's either even or maybe even in favour of Montreal in terms of defense - Souray is inconsistent and somewhat overrated here in Montreal. Ribeiro going anywhere is addition by subtraction. The picks are more valuable to Montreal than they would be to Phoenix - witness the success we've had drafting in recent years.

I would suggest that this would also open up another roster spot for a rookie that may be more ready than any of us are aware of at this point. Kostitsyn would seem to be ready to make the jump to the big club on a permanent basis to start. Comrie would fit in MOST happily between the two Russians. That would leave the wing on Koivu's line open. Kostitsyn, Perezhogin: both could take that spot and run with it. That would mean the 3rd/4th line could take an addition of Chipchura or potentially Latendresse should he be ready.

Of course it would be a big shame to lose Ryder and Souray, but there are many indicators that this could possibly happen. While everyone publicy contradicts the Souray to a western club rumours, the fact that we've heard it so often, couple with the obviousness of the situation - his daughter IS in LA - would seem to indicate that where there's smoke, there might be a little flame. Ryder would absolutely be a loss, particularly since he scored 30 with a supposedly bad back. But we've had struggles signing him at both of his contract renewals so it's easy to get the impression that Montreal may not be where he wants to make his permanent home.

Perhaps this is one of those made up rumours that circulate all too frequently on the net, however it looks a lot better than the first couple of respondents here have indicated. Again, that pick would have to be a pretty good one, particularly since Ryder could very well score 40 if healthy, but it's a trade Gainey would certainly consider.

I do see many points of interest in your statement, however i truly find it hard to believe that Bob would make a trade involving Ryder at this point simply because Bob IS aware of the fact that if Ryder is healthy and playing 100% he most definitely score 40 possibly even be our first 50 goal scorer since who, Richer, if i'm not mistaken.

I just don't think Gainey is ready nor willing to trade our highest goal scorer ( or one of the highest ) who is only this year going to be coming into his own in this league.

Also to say that we have had difficulty signing Ryder his last 2 contracts is true, but can you imagine the huge stink Comrie would make when it came time to re-signing him, Montreal doesn't need that, nor do we want that.

  11. Hey all, just thought I bring this to your attention so that we could all have a giant collective laugh....

"According to the TEAM 990 the Habs are talking to the Coyotes about trading Ryder, Souray and Ribeiro for Comrie, Morris and picks. It might happen. Interesting."

Whoever reported this on the team 990 needs to check their sources.

by the way here is the link where i got this info.....

  13. I don't think saks will be ready however I've got this funny feeling that when he does return, sometime in mid November it will have the same impact, obviously to a significant lesser degree, but an impact that will affect team chemestry the same way it did when he came back from stomach cancer. AS I SAID A SIGNIFICANT LESSER DEGREE

  14. He probably wasn't at the camp because he has been to 2 already. With him being in our system as long as he has he probably is now exempt in the eyes of management.

Indeed Kosty has been to a development camp already, however I seem to recall him getting hurt ( groin ) in londons playoff run. If i'm not mistaken he skipped camp to ensure that he is at 100% and be the first 18 year old to crack the roster since Svoboda. unless he turns 19 before october.

  15. Although it would be nice, correction, very nice to have a 40 point man in our line-up I tend to believe Gainey that he is done shopping. By adding Dumont he would fill a spot that is highly coveted by one of our up and comming rookies. Gainey said he was leaving one spot open, however Gainey is also notorious for being a sleeper and then BAM attacking when it is least expected.

I won't hold my breath on Dupont signing but you never know.

    IN BOB WE TRUST!!!!

  16. I'm a loser because Bobby Smith wore #15? I wasn't responding to any trivia question, I was just simply stating that to me, the number reminds me of Bobby Smith.

Hey huzer I ment no disrespect in the looser comment, it was not intended as an insult, just playfull banter.

Thats the problem with typing, no emotion

  17. People People People, listen to you, you guys seem to forget that Huet's injury was much more sever than Franky's. Franky is suffering from the same kind of knee ailment as Kovy suffered. Kovy missed 2 weeks. Now correct me if I'm wrong but Kovy only missed 2-3 weeks? If there is 10 weeks left before camp opens Franky should be fully recovered and skating well before then. Let's just stop the speculation and wait and see!!!
