  1. What number will Samsonov and Johnson have?

Both had 12 in their earlier clubs and 12 is retired in Montreal to Dickie Moore.

There's just one 21 and my guess is that Johnson will take that and Samsoniv wil go with 23.Or?

I don't quite see Higgins giving up 21 for either player.

  2. Sorry guys, I was under the impression that rumours from Eklund were ok, since that he is quoted so often on this board.

So, speaking hypothetically, how would everyone here feel if the Habs were to pick up Anson Carter? He is the only high profile guy left, and there seems to be a number of teams interested. Would he be a good fit here?

The thread closing is relatively new as HW becomes more and more locked down. Whether or not people are making suggestions that they dream up (allowed) vs posting a rumour and discussing it (not allowed?), I don't really see the difference. It's the offseason and people are looking for things to talk about. Pity the poor fool that reads one of the rumour sites and wants to discuss what they've read. Tis an open forum, right? Everyone here knows the validity of rumour sites, and nobody has been posting under false pretenses of a trade/signing actually occurring.

As far as Carter goes, I don't really think there's room on the roster, and while he's a decent player, everyone in Habs land has unrealistic expectations and limitations based on what "line" the player is on. If he's on line 2, everyone will expect 60+ pts from the guy, and he'll be a "flop" and a "bad decision" by Gainey when he doesn't reach that plateau. I do agree playing with the Sedins helped him immensely, though. While in NY, he didn't do squat.

  3. sport Pronunciation (spôrt, sprt)

    n.

1.a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

    b. A particular form of this activity.

    2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

    3. An active pastime; recreation.

Other than the brief definition, I'd definitely categorize golf a sport! To the topic, Michelli Wie I can easily see being exhausted from the stress she's been under, which everyone here will agree is not typical for a 16 year old girl.

  4. Aebischer is already an NHL goalie - he was a #1 starter......

Carbonneau has basically just thrown down the incentive for him to beat out Huet, and for Danis to work hard in order to steal a spot if possible.

Proper office politics rules that you don't insult a capable NHL goalie who has already earned that status.

I only question it because I thought (still not clear) that Danis would have to clear waivers if he was returned to Hamilton. I can't imagine the Habs will roll with 3 goalies on the roster.

And as far as line 1a, and 1b...despite what I think of the differences between Ribeiro and Koivu, the SRK line by far would be the most threatening line to play against. I would definitely categorize the HKR line as a second line, as other than Koivu, neither player is a true proven top line talent.

  5. I'm excited to watch this team next year. The only thing that Carbonneau said, which can be interpreted in more than one way, is the statement about the netminders. What kind of message does that send to Danis if his coach doesn't have faith in him?

  6. Wow, BG must've been on vacation or something. In the last week signed: Grabovsky, Milroy, Archer, Jancevski, Danis, Cote, Ferland, Aebischer, Komisarek, Higgins, Aubin, D'Agostini, traded Zednik, acquired Johnson, signed Samsanov.

  7. I know I post alot about the need for toughness on the Habs. Am I the only one who feels we are a weaker team than last year-no Simpson,Vandy,Ivanans. Downey is ok but don't you think that a certified heavy weight is needed. I know that fighting is down but let's be honest, there are games that we get pushed around with nobody to stop it. We don't want guys like Souray in the box. Just looking to see what others feel! :hlogo:

None of those players actually played that much for the Habs. If you're worried about the Bulldogs, it would be a different story. Souray, and to some extent Rivet, still mix it up when the need arises. Even Kovalev leveled Tucker (I think) in the playoffs and got a little rough. It's looking like the days of the pure goon are pretty much numbered at this point. The Habs haven't had a pure goon in a while, and I don't think they need one.

    And hi everyone!
