  1. Its not the coaches fault.... how do u go from being one of the top teams in the league, to the worst. Not because of the coaches thats for sure... lack of effort by the whole team and mostly by its veterans...

That's the exact reasoning I was using that it was the coaches fault. You think 24 players are going to just become terrible over night? Makes no sense. It has to be Carbonneau. He hasn't adapted their game play as the season has gone on. The coach has to be flexible and change things for the better when things go badly. He can't do this.

  2. well cant blame them too much either all of us are (including them) really pissed off about the ways are going... they are humans and Habs fans.. u probably should wait for a win to create a post.... in fact Im amazed this post of your hasnt been liquified along with my commentaries...

I'm sure it will be. The mods here are like KGB. All evidence will be destroyed

Seriously, I'm sick of having my posts buried or just deleted because they don't fit in with the beliefs of the moderators. Very poor way to run a forum in my opinion. I know who did it anyway so it's no surprise....

  3. Haha. Well if you wanna play that way, I guess you'd better blame the "embarrassing" loss to the Canes in the playoffs on Bob Gainey. I'm not saying that Carbo is free from blame, he certainly isn't. I'm simply pointing out that we can't blame a single person for this.

No we can't blame a single person, it's a team sport after all but the greatest blame has to go on Carbonneau. Koivu deserves his fair share as do other players but ultimately it is the coach who makes the final decisions. If he sees that koivu is not playing like he should then he has to fix it somehow. My point is that it lies with the coach and he has been making bad choices all season. Somehow something has to change because make no mistake this team is not going to make the playoffs playing like this.

  4. 8-13-1.

    That's 8 out of 22...I dont have a calculator but 8/22 is about .360...

No matter what way you cut it, losing 4 in a row is embarassing.

If it isnt embarassing to you then you got some low standards.

Exactly..some people find that acceptable here and think that they are playing to "their level". A breakdown like this has to be put on the guy in charge not the team because the odds of every player on the team simultaneously tanking are pretty low. It must be that the game plan they are following is faulty. They need new direction. Carbonneau is just not cutting it.

  5. If you want to play that way, then let's talk about how well they started out last season with Theodore in nets, who now is the highest paid backup in the NHL.

Face it, if you were a realist early in the season, you had to have known it wouldn't last. I remember pointing out a number of times how poor the Habs were at even-strength and were winning a bunch of close games because they were playing insane special teams.

Actually to be truthful I knew this team was playing over it's head...I had no illusions on that unlike some but there is no excuse for the last month and a half of play. I don't know their record off hand but it is well below .500 and I think this team is better than that ..not great but better than that.

  6. Better? As in "played over their heads and only won because they had the best PK and PP unit in the league because they couldn't score 5 on 5"???

So you think they are playing at their level right now? Funny cause I could have sworn that you were pretty pleased with this team a while back. Seems like you actually think this team got worse over last season and will not make the playoffs since you seem to think they are now playing at the level they should be.

We had both Huet and Aebischer down the stretch last season, so throw in the same two goalies.

You mean down the stretch when we started playing better ??:lol:

  7. Think about it: last season we were a low playoff seed. We dumped Ribeiro, Bulis, and Zednik and picked up Johnson, Samsonov and Niinimaa. Latendresse made the team. That's about it. We didn't make significant improvement in talent. We didn't change the defence, save for Niinimaa who has had little impact. Why should anyone have expected so much?

You're failing to mention the development and improvement of players like Plekanec, Perezhogin, Higgins, Komisarek.....etc. these guys are promising young players that are going to make up the nucleus of this team and another season under their belt should have made this team better. Or at least they should have but they haven't been used to their potential like they should. Blame Carbonneau.

Give me a break. As I already explained, it's practically the same team as last year. Bulis and Johnson are similar, but without the whining. Samsonov and Ribeiro are about the same, both annoying guys who didn't produce. Niinimaa has been a non-factor. Latendresse has played well, but he's not a huge improvement to the team talent for right now.

See last post and throw in 2 better goalies ...no excuse for this team not improving over last season.

  8. Sorry, they are not making the playoffs, good news on that is more ping pong balls for a high draft pick. Why does everyone KEEP blaming the coach? This team has never been more then an 7 mostly 8 seed for the past 10 years. They had 4 different coaches who couldn't get the core to play.

You guys need to get on the lazy slug players.

The reason that everyone is on Carbonneau is because this team does have potential to be a lot better as they proved earlier in the season. When things fall apart it is the coach that is blamed because he is the one that has to keep the team focused and playing at the level they are capable of. Carbonneau hasn't been able to do that and he looks totally lost and helpless behind the bench. I'm not saying this team is the best in the league but to have such a breakdown is totally unacceptable and the coach must take the lion's share of the blame. This is the best team Montreal has had in the past 10 yrs and we should be seeing the results not the same old sneak in for 7th or 8th game they've been playing the last decade. That's if they even get that far...

  9. We will make the playoffs.

What are you basing that on? I see a team that is falling fast with better teams coming up behind them. If we do make the playoffs it will be barely in the 7th or 8th seed. I was hoping for so much better than that but at this point I would gladly take it. This team is so down right now that a playoff finish seems like a very difficult thing to attain.

  10. and right now it looks like they won't, Carbonneau must take a great deal of the responsibility. He has mismanaged so many things. Starting with line combinations (why is Koivu and Kovalev not together yet...don't give me crap about how the other teams would then shut the team down because that is laughable considering how shut down this team is already...I remember a line of Koivu- Kovalev-Perezhogin that was pretty damn good a while ago but I guess he's just too stubborn to try that again. Instead he lets a young kid with all the potential in the world like Perezhogin rot on the bench or gives him 10 freaking minutes a game. How's he suppose to develop like that ?!?!), an inability to get this team to play 5 on 5 worth a shit, an inability to instill enough discipline to not take 20 freaking penalties a game, totally mismanaging Samsonov keeping him on a line that was clearly not working from day 1....anyway I'm getting to depressed to go on with this but I could rattle off another half dozen things. Carbonneau you're the biggest disappointment of this 2006/07 season.

  11. It actually doesn't treat it. THere is no scientific evidence that it lowers the intraocular pressure in the eye preventing optic nerve damage. Basically pot smokers just use it as an excuse to get high, much like everything else.

Do I detect an anti-marijuana sentiment? I don't know, I've always heard that it helps people with glaucoma. It is also said to help people who are getting chemo get there appetite back and prevent nausea which is very important because they are in a weakened state and can't afford to not eat. It is also said to relieve pain in some cases in which convention meds do not work. If anything they should make alcohol and cigarettes illegal because they kill a lot more people than marijuana ever did or ever will. The only reason it's illegal is politics nothing more.

  12. I did check the list of topics and dark faerie's didn't jump to my eye... blame not my age, dutchie, if anything, blame my glaucoma.

Hey man if you got glaucoma then you should be smoking something. You're legally allowed to because it helps treat the disease. Go for it.

  13. Why do people insist on not signing a guy who's our second leading scorer when our problem is scoring? I know the number might be high, but you aren't sure how much a part of the team Souray is in the dressing room. Honestly he's not worth over $5 million, but from what I see of Markov I wouldn't pay him over $3.5

I'll get flamed for this, but maybe I'm blind, I just don't see why people are so head over heels in love with Markov? Anyone care to educate me?

Well let's see, I won't repeat what everyone else said about his passing and shooting and everything else but what I like best about Markov is that he never (hardly ever of course) gets beat one on one in the defensive zone. He strips the puck away from the best forwards in the league with ease on a regular basis. To me that's the most important thing a defenseman can do and Markov is one of the best in the league at it. He's plus 3 on a team that's minus millions. That tells you a lot right there. Not a small feat considering all the time he gets. To appreciate how good Markov is you have to notice all the little things he does. It's not as apparent as with Souray because a red light and sirens don't go off every time Markov makes a good play. He is the most valuable and best Dman on this team and would be a top 2 on any team in the league. So to sum up it's Markov's one on one ability, especially with the elite players in the league, that sets him head and shoulders above every other D on Montreal. His ability to keep the puck out of the net is more important then Souray's ability to put it in the net and thus he should receive priority when they hand out contracts. I like Souray too, just wish he was a little (lot) better defensively. Can easily live without Rivet (not that I hate him) so hopefully he'll be gone to make room for better things.

  14. Isn't Abby on a one year contract? Why would anyone trade for him in the summer if they can just sign him n July 1st? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Trade , get rid of....same thing. Bottom line is he's not going anywhere till summer at earliest and he could possibly be resigned imho.

  15. Anybody think that part of this is a "showcase" of Abby's talent for potential suitors at the deadline? If so, maybe a road game against the red-hot Pens isnt the best bet to do so...That is my thought on it anyway.

No, I think it's a case of Huet being a little burned out and tired from so many starts resulting in a few bad games (by his standards). Huet needs the rest and Abby deserves the start with his last performance. You don't want Abby getting rusty either from lack of starts. Don't think a trade is coming anytime soon as Gainey has probably realized by now that this team lives and dies by how well the goalie is playing so you need two capable guys in there when the #1 falters. We got some good young guys that will get time as backup next season or next so the Abby trade won't happen till summer at the earliest imho.

  16. Streit should not be a healthy scratch....In the last few weeks I would rate his play very highly and one of the more consistent habs. Streit cannot be benched!...it is possible he moves back to play D though.

I agree with that. Streit has been excellent..much better than I thought he would be. I especially like him as a forward. The thing is he has been improving all the time which is what you want to see. I think Carbo recognizes that and will keep him in the line-up. He should stay in as a forward because he's developing a touch around the net and I love the way he forechecks. Never would of thought that after they passed up Hainsey for him but I guess Bob saw something and he was right.

  17. The Allstar game is stupid. Worst hockey in the world. I'd love to see a "No Star" game where all the players making under 2.5 or 3 Million would have a chance to play.

I like that idea. Take the 40 lowest paid players in the league and make a weekend out of it with the skills competition except instead of fastest skater or hardest shot have hardest knockout punch or best shot blocking

Seriously the allstar game is a real bore. I just wanted to watch the competition to see how Souray and Huet would do. The game itself I couldn't care less about.

  18. Didn't read any of this thread but if the choice is keeping 2 of the 3 D then it's a no brainer. Markov is easily the best on the team so he has to be signed. Souray is a star on the powerplay. Guys with that type of shot don't grow on trees so dispite his defensive short comings ( is he any worse than Rivet?) he's a keeper as well. Poor Rivet is only average at best. He really shouldn't have gotten the contract he had in the first place so let him walk to sign the other 2 guys. I like both Markov and Souray and hope to see them around for a long time in the blue, white and red.
