  1. that's journalism as a whole... period... lots of built-in irresponsibility...

if i get on my soapbox, i'll start spewing about the state of much of modern journalism... today's 'news' presentation is likely as much about entertainment as it is about information... it's about eye and ear and brain candy... it's about sales, market shares, stockholders, etc... journalism is biased, over-editorialized, sensationalized, etc...

i'd love to see an example of a consistently responsible journalism... one that informs, one that takes its role of keeping an eye on what's going on seriously and simply lets us know what's going...

    GO :hlogo: GO!

I don't know that I would call Damien Cox a pillar of "consistently responsible journalism" but he gives a very cogent and informative summary of the habs on espn:

  2. Higgins, Koivu, Kovalev

    Samsonov, Latendresse, Ryder

    Perezhogin. Bonk, Johnson

    Begin, Plekanec, Kostitsyn

    Markov, Souray

    Boullion, Dandenault

    Rivet, Komisarek

    Huet

This assumes that Latendresse can play center - I really don't know if he can or not, but it might be worth a try. He certainly can't lose any more face-offs than Plekanec did last night. If not then change the second and fourth lines like so:

    Samsonov, Plekanec, Ryder

    Kostitsyn, Begin, Latendresse

    Could be fun.

  3. Terrific comeback - thanks Saku for almost singlehandedly elevating the play of the whole team.

Some things we could do to make these games a little less nail biting:

Switch Ryder and Kovalev - Kovalev plays well with and draws inspiration from Saku and if Ryder is not going to do anything he might as well do it with others who aren't doing anything.

D-men: Stop panicking and icing the puck every time there is pressure in the defensive zone.

Forwards: If you insist on dumping the puck in the offensive zone CHASE THE DAMNED THING!!

Maybe they should have a twenty minute scrimmage before the game starts to get the shabby first period play out of their systems.

  4. I hope you are right, but I didn't think Lats outplayed the other prospects. Carbo even admitted the decision was pretty much made before camp.

Now the previous camp, he was definitely hot, no question.

Still, I find it hard to believe that he is here because of his play, or his junior status. I fully believe he is up because they need a new "Quebec Hero" and they are working their butts off trying to make him one. I just hope it doesn't go to his head (ie. Riberio) or it damages his real development.

I can't imagine what Higgins thinks when he listens to them chant Gui, Gui, Gui!

I don't think that what Higgins thinks should enter into it at all. As has been stated in another thread Higgins has his contract coming up and he will be just fine.

But I believe Gainey and Carbs see what this kid can be and feel that he can do it fairly quickly - maybe even quicker than Higgins who was fairly invisible in the early going last year.

  5. Give Lats a little more time. He's been playing a little better every game. The last couple of games he's been playing the body well and creating opportunities. He looks more and more comfortable all the time. I don't think it's going to be too long before he starts playing the way he did to garner all the attention in the first place.
