  1. Yes, we have all come crashing to earth because Price had a bad game.

It erases the fact that he was the MVP of a tournament that had the best players in the world 3 months ago.

And the great game he had last game.

I guess Patrick Roy never had a bad game in the playoffs. Uhhh 92 anybody.

And what happened the next season again? Oh yeah, Stanley Cup Championship.

And anybody remember the 6-0 drubbing in game 7 vs the Wings in 2002.

WHAT A CHOKER THAT ROY WAS. Not clutch at all.

One game means nothing. The fact that you never watched the game just adds to the fact that you are making judgements based on absolutely nothing.

Yep, my expectations are back down to earth.

Putting up good stats as the Canadian goaltender at the WJC really isn't a very unique accomplishment. Pretty much every one does, and most of those don't become great NHL goaltenders. I don't know if you could classify Price's last game as "great". He gave up two late third period goals in a do or die situation. You have to remember that he is one of the oldest players in the WHL at the moment, a four year veteran, and a very high draft pick. By those standards, Price really hasn't been anything special for the Americans in the post season. He has yet to carry the team on his back for more than a couple games at a time.

The hype surrounding Carey Price at the moment FAR exceeds his accomplishments.

  2. Had to be an extreme case for Nachbauer to pull Price in what was probably his final game as a Tri City American. I'm sure that unless he felt that Price just didn't have it that night, and Chet Pickard gave the team a better chance to come back in the third period, he wouldn't have done it. Kind of sad to see that happen, but at least it will bring some of the fans back to earth about Price.

  3. Nothing depresses me more than the fact that we're stalled at the exact same point total for three years straight - in what is supposed to be a 'rebuilding' phase. Much as I believe that we're going in the right general direction, that fact just shatters my optimism. It simply sucks ass.

No G.M. in his right mind "rebuilds" from the bottom of the standings. Sure you get better draft picks there, but they aren't going to make a difference for a few years, and by that time you may have lost a lot of your fan base, not to mention a lot of revenue, and probably your job. The number one priority going into each season is to make the playoffs at least, then try to rebuild from that starting point, with astute draft picks and selective free agent signings.

  4. If Huet were healthy, Halak would just be backing up based on his play so far, I think. Not that that is a criticism. I think he is the youngest goaltender in the NHL at the moment, and was one of the last players taken in the 2003 draft. Jaro has certainly beaten the odds to an amazing degree to this point in his career, and I think he will be in the NHL for a long time.

  5. Add big USHL left winger Brad Malone to the list. Malone was really highly rated a couple of years back, coming out of the Atlantic region, but never developed into the scorer they thought he would be. But he has great size and is a tough two way player. Should have an NHL future as an energy winger a la Garth Murray.

  6. Emelin is a lock for sure, and I would love for Pavel to get a chance as the number 7 or 8 guy.

I don't think that Emelin is a lock by any means. There are some pretty good defensemen to choose from. When the players still in the RSL playoffs come available, and some NHL players, Emelin will be hanging on by his fingernails, I think.

  7. Carey Price - Some of the luster is off Price after 3 consecutive seasons bowing out in the first round of the playoffs. The Americans probably had a better team than Seattle this year as well. Price's junior career has been a lot like Kyle Chipchura's, underwhelming, except for their WJC appearance. But Kyle seems to be doing fairly well as a pro, and hopefully the same will hold true for Price. But I don't think he is as good a prospect as Jaroslav Halak.

  8. Bitter pill to swallow having his junior career end this way after 4 seasons in Tri Cities. They won nothing of note during that time. Three years in a row that Price has crashed out in the first round. At least this may tone down the hyperbole about him.

  9. 50 shots was the final total. Carey got the first star of the game.

Makes you wonder if he was eliminated if Montreal would try to sign him quickly and bring him to Montreal. Their goaltending seems to be in a bit of a shambles at the moment. I don't think Halak is accustomed to playing so many games in a row, and the alternatives seem even worse at the moment. :(

  10. Those lame oldtimers Koivu and Kovalev were -6 between them tonight. About -60 between them on the season. 10 million bucks a season doesn't get you much these days. Overpaid *s. Bouillon and Dandenault don't even belong in the league. They should be playing for beer and game day cash in the Quebec Senior League or something. I hate Bouillon, guy is like 5 and a half feet tall, and half of that has to be that grotesque pumkin on the top of his shoulders. I've seen cattle with more intelligence in their eyes than Dandenault. I'm surprised the guy can find his way to the rink without help/

  11. You can say that Latendresse and Pleks are responsible for the goals but the fact remains that on both plays they got a pass that left no one between them and the goalie.

That is dead wrong. Latendresse had to undress that defenseman long after getting the puck. Plekanec also had a defenseman between himself and the goal when he got the pass. Watch the bleeping replays.
