  1. I wish people would stop this 'addition by subtraction' logic. 'It's Koivu's fault, get rid of him...' Getting rid of players seldom helps (Samsonov and Kovalev would be two obvious exceptions). This team needs D and a 1st line C, period.

    Totally agreed.

The french media push and push for any avalable talent from QC., it gets suffocating.

Don't be too hard on French reporters. Some are dumb ethnocentrists, but others are ok. French media dearly wanted Shanahan and Arnott last summer, and as far as I know these guys weren't born in QC nor do they speak french...

But you guys must agree that signing Brière would be a great addition to the team, QCer or not...

  2. I am still puzzled on why Perez was tossed into the lineup on the first line.

Perez only played 8 minutes, so it's not an issue. I think Carbo hoped that Perez would come out in fire after missing so many games. But he didn't, so he played only 8 minutes. Carbo's not to blame on that one.

He's a rookie coach. Be shure of 2 things:

1- Guy Carbonneau will be the head coach of the Canadiens next year

2- Carbo will learn from his mistakes and be a better coach next year

  3. Rule #1: No more lazy Russians...

No more lazy Russians players of any origin

Why does everyone say Samsonov is untradable. This summer, more teams will have cap space to take him. He had his worst career year, but he's still a good hockey player. And there's only one year left on his contract, so there's not much to lose by taking him.

I really like Kovalev. He is so talented. But he had a very very very disappointing year. I wouldn't be disapointed if Bob trades him... He's not worth his 4,5 M$... Free that cap space and roster spot.

  4. Who do you want the Habs to play

Anyone but the Devils! Brodeur is sooo good against the habs

I'd really like a series against the Pens... for the show! 4-7 games against Crosby, Malkin, Staal! That'd be great. And I think we can beat them, their defense is a weakness they must adress if they want to be serious cut contenders.

  5. But who are your centremen? A 36-year old Koivu, and Pleks? Sorry, the point is that Briere is a legitimate #1 C and that's the one element the Habs don't have in the system, young or old. Pay briere his 5 mil or whatever it is, and THEN I'll agree that we're 2 years away from contention.

That is the problem. We do not have a potential #1 center in the farm, so we need to sign one... Is Brière the best choice? I'm not sure, but the fact is that #1 UFA centers who produce over a point per game will be in demand, and we'll end up signing what we can instead of what we want. Except that I believe Gainey has learned from his mistake and will not go to "plan D" (Samsonov) in the future...

I wonder if it'd be a good idea to have "3 second lines" instead of trying to sign a #1 center?

Carbonneau likes to play all his lines, so why not split the talent like we've been doing for the last 2-3 games?

  6. As it has been said, I'm pretty sure BG will try to trade him for a bottom pick to a team who needs to bolster its offense like Chicago, Philly or Washington. I think most GM believe that sammy can still be a solid offensive contributor, but his market value is extremely low.

  7. Just wait until next year when our third line of Samosonov/Plekanec/Kostitsyn is the best in the league.

You really think that Samsonov will have a fresh start in Montreal next season?!

i wonder if milroy'll ever make it...

I hate to say so, but I don't think so. At least not in Montreal. We have too many talented wingers. Whose place can he take? We already have Higgins, Ryder, Lats, AK46, Perez, AK27, Bégin, Johnson, (and Samsonov, but)... And he hasn't the profile for a defensive/gritty fourth line role...

  8. I mean we were calling up Milroy ahead of him!

Milroy was called ahead of him because they could not call Kostitsyn : he spent a week in Belarus because his wife/girlfriend gave birth to their first child.

Since he was sent back down earlier this season, he understood that he has to work hard to stay up. He's been dominating the AHL since then.

  9. Who do you think in the farm or on the team is going to break this streak of mediocrity?

    Who will not :

Higgins : He's a great two way player, and will probably know a couple of 80 points seasons. May reach 40 goals. But I don't think he's gonna reach 100. He'd need a playmaker like Forsberg to do it.

Perezhogin, Plekanec, Ryder, Latendresse, D'Agostini, White, Maxwell, Grabovski : None of them has shown super-star potential. Latendresse might become a solid power forward tho, and D'Agostini, White, Maxwell, Grabovski all have petential to become regular NHLer and even solid offesive contributors. But not 100 pts scorers IMO.

    Who might :

    S. Kostitsyn is actually the one that as the most super-star potential IMO. He's second overall in points in the OHL. He putted up more than two points a game during the playoffs last spring.

A Kostitsyn will develop in a solid first line wigner as far as I can see. But will he be able to reach 100 points, I doubt. Mike modano never scored more that 93. Kovalev never reached 100 either...

But the two brothers together could do some serious damage. With his shot and the playmakin ability of his youger brother, he could reach the 50 goals mark, who knows, but will likely be a solid 30 goals scorer.

HockeysFuture places AK 46 32th top prospect in the league (Price is 16th, Grabovski isn't in the top 50, Latendresse wasn't in the top 50 last year and has graduated this year so is not considered anymore)

I'm sure of one thing tho, we have a couple of promising offensive players that will help break the trend of mediocrity : beginning next year, it will take more than 65 points to be the Canadiens points leader!

As far as I can see, we have only one potential franchise player, but he won't score more that one or two goals in his entire career. Carey Price.

  11. On a side note, is it just me, or does anyone else hate the Canes about as much as anyone else?? Beating us out of the playoffs twice, and now probably taking our playoff spot!! I've developed a real hate for them.

I've been hating them for two decades... I hated so much the Whalers...

  12. Carolina 7 Devils 1 halfway in the 3rd.

We need at least 15 points in the next 10 games to hope to clinch a playoff spot, which means we cannot lose more that 2 games in the next 10.

I've already thrown the towel, but if we lose tonight, I'll throw an other one, for good measure

  13. agreed. Except I'd like to see him on the second or first lines instead of the third...

agreed too. but I hope to see Zhogin on the third, which would mean we have better players on the two firts and are thus extremely competitive! B)

Have a successful summer Bob! :hlogo:
