  1. ...turned into a "patriotic" article by the reporter, where North America is evil (young French players with big egos, mean racist coach, anihilating defensive system, etc) and where Russia is the promised land

It makes sense. Russians are pissed off because they lose all their star players to North America, so this kind of article might be a try to influence young russians players to stay secure in mother Russia...

  2. Apparently, La Presse is supposed to release "indisputable" evidence tomorrow that should show Kovalev guilty of all the comments that the article mentioned.

Read La Presse this morning. No new facts except that that russian journalist was interviewed on XM radio and said that she didn't invent thing. But could she say "I lied and the journal I write for publishes bullshit" ?

You guys HAVE to read Rejean Tremblay's article (tuesday morning), he bitches the organisation, Kovalev, the russian players in general and, of course, the fans who are blinded by they love for the Canadiens. He sound like a psychotic guru who thinks he's surrounded by conspirations and is the only one (with his few friends) to know the Truth... or is it just a pathetic demonstration of inflated ego?

Sammy said that it's frequent for russian journals to distort what athletes say.

Lapierre said Kovy really helped him integrate the team when he was called and both he and Latendresse defended Kovy. But yesterday on radio-canada they only showed Bégin's interview, who wasn't as prone to defend Kovy as Lapierre and Lats were (it's a known fact that Bégin and Kovy aren't the two best friends in the team, to say the least...)

But the journalist prefers to believe an unknown russian journalist than Carbonneau, Kovy, Lats, Sammy and Lapierre...

  4. Just posted on Radio-Canada :

À Montréal, un seul journal russe, le Soviet Sport, suit sur une base quotidienne les activités du Tricolore. Affecté à la couverture du Canadien, Gennady Boguslavsky n'accorde aucune crédibilité à cette histoire.

« C'est complètement faux, affirme Boguslavsky à Radio-Canada Sports. Le journal qui a traduit l'entrevue n'est pas sérieux, c'est un quotidien qui cherche la controverse. »

It says that only one russian journal covers the Canadien's (Soviet Sport). A journalist form Sovet Sport told Radio-Canada that Football-Hockey (the russian journal that published Kovalev's interview) isn't a serious publication and seeks controversy.

  5. I only resign johnson and Markov. Making numerous other trades.

I don't think trades are the solution. We cannot aquire what we need via trade. As discussed in an other tread, we need a first line center... What do we have to give in exchange of a premier first line center? The solution is to prepare a 12-wheels-truck load of money and get a real number 1 center that will end up at leat in the top20 scorers. For the wigners we'll have to do with what we have.

  6. If you guys can read french, go to cyberpresse.ca there are plenty of article about the Kovalev's interview. Pretty surprising infos. Mathias Brunet did some surprising digging...

I mean, he called the russian journalist who confirmed she talked to Kovalev and that the article is a word-for-word print of a radio interview given by Kovalev. She (the journalist) was supposed to send the radio interview to Brunet, but then she got a call from Kovalev and suddendly backed on her word and said that there were significant differences between the printed article and the radio interview. After that, neither the journal or the radio station retruned the calls from La Presse... Wow, the captain of team russia seems to have some influence over there. If what Brunet reports is true, Kovalev shut the story from its source...

    a) The story was made up and Kovalev has helped them remember he has the money to sue their ass

b ) The story is real and Kovalev has friends in russia who who can shut radios and journals up!

  7. I wouldn't waste my time signing wingers - we've got lots of those - and Zubrus would be a signing of last resort for 2nd line C. This team cannot afford to approach another season without a bona-fide #1A centreman, which means that we HAVE TO go after Gomez, or Briere, or Datsyuk with every last resource at our disposal.

Datsuyk or Brière would be a really great addition, because I far as I can see, we have no future #1A center in the organisation... But have enough promising wingers...

  8. Aucoin for Kovalev? I prefer we keep our russian "problem". He's having a bad year, but last year he notched 65 pts in 69 games while playing injuried for the first half of the season. I'd prefer take the risk with him rather than with Aucoin...

In overall, I don't think the lineup you propose is better than our actual one, except for the addition of Timmonen, which is improbable.

I'd stick with Gainey's plan : build from within. I'm pleased with what I've seen from Kosty lately, and Lapierre. Latendresse is in a slump but maybe he's getting tired. He's only 19 and plays a very demanding physical/forchecking style.

Youth is the solution, not trades, IMO

  9. Now, I think BG is a crossroads ... and it will determine if his time in MTL is successful ... what he does about this recent losing streak, the possible problems in the lockerroom, and Carboneau not getting the job done.

The decisions he'll make this summer will be very important, but the most important of all IMO will be the teams performance next season...
