  1. Ek is a dumb ass i guess... Spector just updated saying :

    UPDATED: 4:20 PM EST.

    KOVALEV ON WAIVERS - NOT!!!

UPDATE!: The Fourth Period reports Kovalev's agent denies that his client has been placed on waivers. Canadiens rep Donald Beauchamp laughingly denied it, and confirmed that it was Aaron Downey, not Kovalev, who'd been placed on waivers.

USA TODAY: reports the Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Alexei Kovalev on waivers.

Spector's Note: My thanks to everyone who sent this in. Looks like it was, as suspected, an error on the part of USA Today, probably confused Kovalev coming off IR with Downey going on waivers.

  2. KOVALEV ON WAIVERS!! (as reported by Eklund)

No one will claim him at 4,5 M (or maybe Washinton or Columbus because they've cap room?)

What a stupid move! I liked that guy! He's the best stickhandler I've ever seen and probably ever will... And he's a playoff guy. What the hell is Bob doing?

  3. Gorges will be a depth d-man here, as we already have 6 better d-men (Streit has improved so much!).

But it frees some cap space (Gorges makes 450K vs Rivet 2.47M)... Now Bob is more free to get another player :-)

Still, it's a very nice late chistmas gift that SJ gave us (a 1st for Rivet ahah!)

    Good move Bob.

  4. Man we lack offense! Many blame Kovalev's dedication to the game, but IMO we need him so much to be competitive... That guy made 65 pts in 69 games last year, playing with an injuried knee for months!

We're 3-4-0 since his elbow injury, including 2 wins against weak teams (columbus ans Washington)

  5. Why would they resign Rivet, because he wants to stay in Montreal. His lack of speed, physical play, ability to win a battle is hurting the team. There is no reason to resign him.

Stephane Richer didn't say that BG should or wants to re-sign Marky and Rivet. He only said that their agents told BG that they want to stay in mtl... Souray won't stay. We can't sign both him and Markov.

If we lose Souray and Niinimaa and Rivet, we then have only 5 NHL-level defensemen : do we have 2 NHL-ready d-men in Hamilton? I mean 2 d-men that are equal to Souray and Rivet? Of course no. The team is supposed to improve during the summer... Will we be able to sign (at reasonnable price) a better D than Rivet (he's not good, but he's not that bad)?

  6. New "rumor" : Yesterday on Radio-Canada, Stéphane Richer said : "I know that Bob Gauney talked with Markov's and Rivet's agents, and that both players want to re-sign in Montreal. Markov and Rivet want to stay in Montreal".

Add that Gainey said in his press conf yesterday that he won't be able to resign all his UFA this summer, and you know who's the odd man out (in addition of Niinimaa!)... my guess is that Sheldon will be traded if BG has what he wants : player that can help the team now and in the future. Had we lost the last three games, he would be already gone...

  7. Souray, Kovolov, Ryder for Marleau, Carle, Bernier and Malakov

    or

Souray, Samsonov, Ryder for Marleau, Carle, Bernier and Malakov

Marleau is an untouchable... ain't he the Sharks' captain? You don't trade your C for a defenseman who's UFA at the end of the season...

  8. Yep BG certainly has something brewing. He won't get fooled by the last two wins. They were against Columbus (28th) and Washington (25th)... and these were close wins (3-2 and 5-3 inclunding an empty netter...)

We'll see how we fare against Nashville (2nd)...

  9. yup, that's the difference. Eklund do not divulge his sources, do not verify the info and make the rumours as "his"...

e.g. Was listening to Radio, took my phone called the broomboy and it's E3 that he's traded...

Yeah, very few of EK's rumors turn in real deals. e4 are often right though. e1 and e2 are bullcrap

Still BG knows how much $ Souray and Markov are asking, and will trade souray if he thinks he can't sign him...

If he's to be traded, I want players, not picks! Picks enter the NHL only like 3-4 years after the draft... We need players that'll help the team as soon as next year, like Carle or Bernier or Pavelski.
