  1. Stats don't tell the whole story but rumours do?

That's why I said I have no idea. For all any of us know he could just as easily score 30 goals or defect the the system, or become an assistant captain. All My point was trying to say is that, Moen may not have the statistics to prove he's worth his salary, but he brings leadership, kind of the same reasons that we kept Gill.

  2. Travis Moen makes 1.5M. How is 2M for Jagr a risk? He's been a point per game player in the KHL since leaving the NHL.

Stats don't tell the whole story, I mean I have no idea, but if he truly is a bad teammate then he is a big risk.

  3. I would not agree. Would not reeeeaaaaaly bug me, but a little bit. My argument is all about to seperate politic and PRO sport. I just can't stand it. National anthems, yelling USA USA in the crowd, the composition of a team with Quebecers or Americans or whatever.

For me, the cultural aspect of PRO sports (any pro sport) should be about how the local population enjoy/react/get involved with the game. IMHO, there is NO WAY (zero) the politic should have anything to do with PRO sport, at any place, any moment.

On the other hand, I enjoy the patriotism associated with INTERNATIONAL competitions (Olympics, World Cup, etc) but when it comes to PRO sport, I just can't stand it.

But I enjoy it cuz it brings so much passion, not because countries can bramg about being the best (AKA people at Vancouver Games with their sign "Hockey is Canada's sport" how pathetic was that).

I totally agree with every word in this post.

  4. Nah, it was 3.75 for Halak.

I could even see Price getting 6 if he has another great season.

Damn 6 would be overpaying, I say next years playoffs will determine Prices salary more then the regular season. Price was brilliant this year, but we shouldn't empty the bank because a good season. I would like to see his next contact take him too ufa making 4 tops, By then we will have a large enough sample size to see what kind of goalie he will be.

  5. It was the high number at the young age that didn't sit right, but upon further research, the precedent was set with Marc-Andre Fleury's contract.

Didn't Halak get 4.75 for 4 years, that sounds good for price 4.5-4.75 for 4 or 5 years. I use Halak because he is much better the MA Fleury.

  6. It puzzles me how a francise who's farm team is in the final 4 of the AHL playoffs, which should mean they they have the top 4 farm team, thereby the top 4 prospects, could be ranked 20th in prospects? Is this done by the same Torontonian genius' that had Montreal not making the playoffs this year, even healthy? Sorry to break it to them but Montreal contended this year ( with major injury losses) the farm is strong, so they will continue to contend for awhile yet. They can rank them wherever they please, as long as they keep contending at both levels, have the depth to contend when hit with tons of injuries at both levels, and finish their season weeks-months after both of Toronto's entries I am happy.

  7. As per H I/O

"Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced today the signing of free agent defenseman Raphael Diaz to a one-year, two-way contract (2011-12). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Raphael Diaz, who we strongly believe has all the attributes to play in the NHL. Raphael is a defenseman with excellent offensive and defensive skills, who constantly improved his play over the years. We look forward to seeing him at training camp,” said Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier.

Diaz registered 39 points (12 goals, 27 assists) in 45 games with EV Zug in 2010-11. Diaz, 25, displayed a +14 plus/minus differential and served 26 penalty minutes.

In eight complete seasons with EV Zug, the 5’11’’, 194 lbs defenseman totaled 118 points (33 goals, 85 assists) with 212 penalty minutes in 352 games.

Diaz, who is part of the Swiss team at the 2011 World Championship in Slovakia, collected four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in six games. He maintained a +3 plus/minus differential, while playing 20:52 in average per game.

A native of Baar, Switzerland, Diaz played for EV Zug (junior) from 2001-02 to 2003-04. He was part of the Swiss team at the 2005 and 2006 World Junior Championships, and at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics."

  8. I think players match organaizations. Bruins and philly always dirty regardless of players, coaches, managers, or captains. Toronto always sucks and makes bad deals, habs always quick and talented. You can see this with all teams that have been around for a while.

  9. The Ramo deal is done, a 2 year pact that is one of the most lucrative in the KHL's brief history. He knew he wasn't going to get a shot with Price in Montreal so he is staying overseas.

So we keep his rights regardless of how long he stays overseas?

  10. That's so LAME. Not only do we have to pay Gomez 8M or 7M, whatever it is this year, but we got to bring in a decent winger @ 5,6,7 M so his assists can be justified. I just shutter when I think what we paid to get him. I was a loyal Gainey fan for years, but this trade is a BUST.

So please list me playmakers who gather points when you only have one winger who finishes your passes.

I'm not saying Gomez is full value for his contract , but very few in the league who make over 5 million are.

Is Luongo worth his contract, Is lecavalier, the Sedins? Heck Dion phaneuff makes more. My point is everyone has a overpaid player. Some people talk about other teams being ruthless to do what it takes to win, but las time I checked the rangers or Edmonton are far from being winners, they are they only teams who have done this I think. Edmonton will be good one day due go tanking it for many years and stockpiling draft picks, not because they dumped Souray. The rangers have yet to show that dumping Redden did anything either.

My point Gomez is just one of many many overpaid players around the league, he is here to stay for now, he is valuable to this team and he cares, so let Gauthier worry about the numbers we should just be ready for a very promising season next year.
