  1. I was never on that bandwagon. I was on the "wtf is Gauthier thinking?" Bandwagon when he traded for a prospect with 7 games experience.

Let's face it: Halak did not have much value. Price was much more valuable back then, even if he had his share of problems. His potential was known across the league, and we know why today.

  2. Nice to hear Reway complimenting and congratulating his old coach and using "us" when describing Slovak success.

Empty netters and all he seemed a pretty good captain for them.

I keep thinking of Nattinen or Engqvist when I see de la Rose play. But he must be a bit better all round I guess (hope).

He is more talented IMO. But 3rd or 4th line duty is probably his future in the NHL.

  3. Price solid as a rock, as usual. Beaulieu, incredibly smooth skater. He is beginning to show some pause in his zone. If he continues like that, he will become the third link of our new Big Three.

I also was very impressed by Bournival and Andrighetto. The youngsters are responsible defensively, fast and intelligent with the puck in the offensive zone. Their contribution is very important; they give value minutes on the ice and this help the whole team.

    What a game!

  4. I would like to see Tinordi as well for the last 30-40 games, and will finally agree with Stogey that Emelin isn't living up to the job we need him for...Hope JGC21 is right... we need a legit top 4 guy, but he has to be physical for me to be happy. We are lacking that physical guy, and I think Tinordi is the man for that top 4 job, if not this year, next.

Tinordi will be with the team before the end of the season. We saw last spring that we needed a guy like him to defend the crease and punish those who feel too comfortable close to Price. He will make mistakes, but no more than Gilbert, Allen or Weaver. Let him play!

  5. Dave King didn't really like Lemieux, was an idiot and acted as such in the previous tournament. Mario skipped World Junior because of him. He told everyone that it was because it was his last chance of spending Holidays with his family. That was bullshit. It's all on Dave King.

You have a better memory than me. And you are right, Dave King acted as a complete moron.

  6. I thought the same thing. He was on a breakaway, not a full one, but he failed to lift the puck. I never played hockey, but I thought that was a clear indication of his wrist injury.

Eichel looked good. He has all of the tools to be a first line winger as soon as next year, he has one of the best shots i've seen from a player of his age, and he plays a fairly physical game and he's mature physically. I thought at times, especially on the PP, he tried to do too much himself; at the NHL level he isn't going to be able to/will be discouraged from going "around the world" with the puck.

I really like what I saw out of Lehkonen. His forechecking is excellent, he caught a few players by surprise and he showed a lot of leadership in his play.

Reway flat out sucked, like the rest of the Slovakian joke squad. I don't see any reason for him to captain a squad aside from a terrible terrible team.

De La Rose is having a good tournament. I've been watching the Denmark game from the second period on. It's tough to draw any conclusions from a game that's 5-1.

I felt that Eichel is so good, he looks so mature to me, that he could hold his own right now in the NHL. I watch this tournament every year and I don't recall having seen that. Maybe Lindros and Crosby. I don't mean that he is as good as them, just that he is as mature as they were before being drafted. Mario Lemieux was certainly in the same league, but he did not make the team the year before he was drafted. Go figure...
  7. So far, from what I have seen, Eichel stands out. McDavid is good, but not at the same level. Maybe he has not entirely recovered from his injury. If I had the first pick today, Eichel would be my choice. No doubt in my mind that he will become a star in the NHL.

  8. Reway had 0 shots and a -4 rating and still somehow was named Player of the Game vs Canada. I didn't expect Reway to dominate by any stretch but I thought he was terrible. He looked to make the simple play more difficult (this isn't the first time I've seen that from him at the WJC's) and gave the puck away numerous times. He set up one good scoring chance, that was about it. Oh, and he accidentally blocked a shot.

Fucale got a shutout so at least he didn't hurt his chances of getting another start.

I was disappointed too. He was not trying to create anything, just playing in periphery awaiting a pass or the puck to come his way. Terrible indeed.
  9. I didn't get to see too much of the FIN-US game since my attention was on the Spengler Cup game (Canada lost) but I watched most of the third period. Lehkonen looked really good. It's not that he had any high-end, flashy plays but he played smart. When the puck was at the point on the PP, he went right to the top of the crease right away. Defensively, he was consistently in the right spot, making the right plays. He also drew a couple of penalties and scored in the shootout.

Fucale vs Reway coming up in an hour and a half while de la Rose's Swedes are up heading into the 3rd against the Czechs.

Lehkonen looked good indeed. But what about Eichel? The young man will be quite a player.

  10. Weiss was AWESOME last year. It's easy to forget. And its apparently a known thing among the vets, that its the playoffs that really count and determine your worth to a team. This can be overdone of course... (Borky.. I mean Bourque..) but there really does seem to be a lot to it, and I'm sure this is why Bourque was added to the mix in Anaheim. Briere had that same reputation for a long time.

But Weiss was awesome in the playoffs , living the proof of that great statement from Lafleur which I hadn't heard before.

Remember Claude Lemieux, the quintessential playoff competitor.

  11. Talking about Malhotra, the fact is that Therrien is obviously getting less patient with him. Sooner or later, as good as he is taking face-offs, he will be sent to the press box if he is not able to generate more offense. The trend is there: he has been playing less minutes lately.

  12. Face-offs are important, but we are a low scoring team. Let's face it, Malhotra has contributed nothing so far to the offense, and by the way he is playing after the face-offs, it is highly probable that he won't contribute either in the future. What do you do when, most of the time, you absolutely need a goal? You put offensive players on the ice. With the Habs, the way it looks right now, it means sitting Malhotra on the bench. There is no other alternatives.

That's why I see Eller or Plekanec centering the 4th (Plex with Weise and Prust looked pretty much like a 4th line yesterday). Bournival and Andrighetto could earn a spot too. They are very fast and should open the ice for the team. I am optimistic, changes are coming.
