  1. As an American, it is my obligation as a man to register for the draft. If I did not want to risk ever being drafted, I would move to another country. If I were drafted, I would most definitely report. The good that Bush has done is quietly sweeped under the rug by the most of the media. If you look at things like the economy, it is in much better shape than the liberals would like you to think. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the exact statistics I found to provide any proof of this. And about the pot, I trust Clinton about that about as much as I trust it to snow in July. He has been proven to be a very dishonest person, but people don't seem to care. People call Bush a liar all the time about WMD, but that was not even his fault, he had bad intelligence. Clinton has lied under oath and was found guilty of insider trading. That just starts the list. [Edited on 3-23-04 by Fanpuck33]
  2. Thanks for the info. I figured they wouldn't let this guy get back into the draft.
  3. Since finding out about this site, I have primarily posted here, but still visit the ESPN boards now and then. That will stop though. Right now Guru is threatening to go to a kid's house and shoot him in the head. Nothing productive ever happens over there anymore. If you say a player played poorly, someone will call you an idiot. "Idiot" and "stupid fukker" have to be used more than any other words on there. Ever since the Habsworld people left there, it's worthless, save a few posters.
  4. I seriously question Kerry's honor. While getting all kinds of medals and ribbons over in Vietnam, he did nothing to stop the killing of civilians that he later claimed happened. After he got into politics, he blasted the war for it's killing of innocent civilians. When asked why he didn't say anything back then, he avoids answering directly. Also, he is very fickle. His voting records show that he has constantly flip-flopped on most issues. It is good for somebody to change their ideas sometimes after being presented with new information, but not on most issues. That is a sign of a weak mind with no convictions. If Kerry is elected, you can bet the terrorists will be happy. He will pull the US out of Iraq and reduce the war on terror. Right or wrong, the invasion of Iraq happened. We can't just pull out now. We have a responsibility to the people of Iraq.
  5. If I remember right, we do not have him under any sort of contract yet. If we don't reach any kind of agreement with him before the draft, is he eligble to re-enter the draft? I know that is how it works in some sports, but I am unsure of how it works in hockey. Thanks for any help.
  6. I wouldn't mind going after Glen Murray. I'm sure Ottowa will find a way to resign Alfredson, or I would like to go after him. I also wouldn't mind Barnaby. He's a guy you love to hate, but brings a lot to the table. An excellent agitator who isn't solely a tough guy. Overall, I would like to see Kovalev resigned and bring in a strong D man and maybe a Barnaby type player. Not just a figther like Langdon, but a guy who has decent hockey skills. Although I have to say that the most important thing this offseason is not our signings but the CBA. I hope to God they figure something out. Life without hockey is just no fun at all. 7. I still don't like facing TB in the first round. Granted, that is in part because the Lightning are my second favorite Eastern team, albeit a very distant second to the Habs. I would like to see both teams make it out of the first round. But if we play them, they become as hated as the Leafs, haha.
  8. Kovalev is making 6.6 million this year. I think we should offer 4-5 million. His numbers haven't been great outside of Pittsburgh, so I don't think he should be making the same price he made when he signed an overpriced deal with the Rangers.
  9. But look at where they were coming from back then. Many people, especially Protestants, who looked primarily at the Bible for insight found in the Bible that in the Old Testament, everyone had slaves. Basically the only time slavery was bashed was when Moses led his people out of Egypt. I am not trying to aruge that slavery is OK, just trying to show where early Americans were coming from. America has the 2nd highest Jewish population in the world. If they were treated so badly, why would they want to stay here. I am not saying discrimination does not happen, but I personally have not seen it. I am sure it goes on in areas, but I honestly do not know how prominent it is. Personally, I have nothing against gay people. But I do diagree with gay marriage. Man and woman were created the way they were for a reason, men were not intended to be with other men, same with women. But this does not mean I discriminate against gays. In fact, one of my friends in high school was gay. By the way, thanks for arguing the points and not attacking me. I always appreciate that since it never happens in most places when I get in debates of this nature. And on a completely different note, I still think Moore got away with that hit. I think he did a good job of hiding the fact that he leaned into Naslunds head with his shoulder after he passed the puck.
  10. I realize you probably didn't intend to imply all Christians were hypocrites, but even so, I think the generaliztion is ridiculous. Every religion has plenty of hypocrites. And in baseball, a beanbag normally is retaliation for something. Bertuzzi retaliated to a hit on a teammate, so the difference isn't as big as one might think. Both are vicious attempts at injury, and I don't see why there is no uproar to suspend pitchers for extended periods of time. People defend it as "part of the game." Throwing at a guy's head is as much a part of baseball as Bertuzzi's attack is a part of hockey. Neither should be accepted. [Edited on 3-22-04 by Fanpuck33]
  11. I agree, but there are some instances when it is obvious throwing at a guy's head is intentional. I consider myself a conservative (leaning toward right-wing) American Christian and I love hockey. Christianity has nothing to do with hating hockey.
  12. As I suspected, it is the Imperial March from Star Wars. Many different sports use the Imperial March, especially college basketball and football. It isn't just used in the Bell Centre. By the way, what is the name of the song they play when the Habs score?
  13. I'd rather play Philly than TB, TOR, or OTT. They are racked with injuries.
  14. Balej scored his first goal last night against the Devils. Had a nice little head fake that got Brodeur down and then he slid it under his stick and home. Too bad he couldn't have scored a couple more and beat the Devils.
  15. Thanks, sakiqc. I can't say that I've heard of Legg since then. I was curious as to if he ever became an NHLer. From what I can find, he only made it to the IHL for a short time, and has been a career ECHLer. Interestingly enough, he played a season for my hometown team, the now defunct Columbus Chill. I remember him and never knew he scred that goal. I found out recently that a kid I remember from the Little League World Series is now playing for the Padres. Then I was watching a clip I found of the "Images of the Century" and the Legg goal was on it and got me wondering. If anyone wants to see either goal, here is a site I found that has both clips: http://www.hockeyzoneplus.com/hors_e.htm
  16. I am sure some of you remember a goal scored in the college playoffs a few years back where the guy from Michigan picked the puck up on his stick behind the net and reached around the post and dumped it in. Does anyone know who that was? I am curious to see if he ever made it in the pros. Thanks
  17. I totally agree, hockey players on average are much better citizens than athletes in other sports. It is people who go to hockey games to see the fights who give hockey a bad name. I know there are a lot of those in Columbus, where the favorite players are Nash, Zherdev (two young gunners) and Jody Shelley, the designated fighter. Sure, fights are par tof the game and are entertaining, but they are not the main part of the game. I hate the sports coverage here in the US. Sometimes I wish I lived in Canada just for the hockey coverage.
  18. I agree, let Perrault stay with Koivu and Zed, they are clicking. Let Kovy play LW with Ribs and Ryder. But I don't know how Kovy would like it on the left side.
  19. I don't know if it is as bad in Canada, but everyone here is just bitching about how savage hockey is. They focus on uncommon instances such as Bertuzzi's sucker punch to target hockey as an over-violent sport that should not be tolerated. There is never this kind of outrage when players in other sports intentionally injure other players. When has a pitcher, such as Pedro or Clemens, been accused of committing a criminal offense? What about when defensive players hit the quarterback in the head after he gets rid of the ball? What about when a basketball player takes a swings at a guy and breaks his eye socket? How about the time that linebacker from Ohio State tried to strangle Jim Sorgi of Wisconsin? Sure, these people were suspended, but there was never such an outroar as there is when such an incident happens in hockey. How is sucker-punching a guy any worse than strangling somebody or throwing a 90 MPH fastball at a guy's head? I just don't understand why hockey is targeted. [Edited on 3-22-04 by Fanpuck33]
  20. I read somewhere that Kovy will not be on a line with Ribs, but will join Yanic and Saku on the top line. This allows Ryder to stay on the right side.
  21. Announcement tomorrow (March 11) at 9 AM to announce the suspension.
  22. I never really have understood why so many Americans dislike Canadians and vice versa. I agree that the US is like an empire and that in due time another nation will surpass us in power. When that will happen, who knows. But as we have already stated, we digress. Go Habs!
