  1. The WHL'ers all had strong nights yesterday:

    - Bozon: 2 goals, 2 assists, +3

    - Dietz: 2 assists, +2

    - Thrower: 1 assist, +1

Brady Vail was held pointless but he played on the 2nd defence pairing instead of up front. Now that's versatility.

Wow... Obviously rules don't apply to this 4th round pick ahha

  2. I want to echo Turd Burglar; while Prust has been flying under the radar, overshadowed by flashier names (Galy squared, Markov, Subban, Price), I think he's been a really key addition who is contributing a lot to the kids' success. And if any one player represents the apparent shift in attitude in favour of chipiness and truculence on this team, it's him.

I don't want to be premature about it, but on the whole this team is starting to give me the same eerie feeling I had early in 2008 - specifically, an early game against Florida where I found myself suddenly sitting up and going, 'wait a minute...that can't be the Habs looking that good?'

If Markov stays healthy and the kids keep rolling, we could be the Surprise of the Year.

As long as people can keep Marleau off the score sheet :P

  3. Patches (Wolverine) participated fully in practice today in a contact jersey. He said he felt fine until the 20 minutes of wind sprints at the end. Doesn't look like he'll be back tomorrow (he skated with Blunden), but it's looking sooner than the 3-4 weeks they had said.

This name has to stick at some point haha

  4. Piss off Therrien about maybe not playing Subban this weekend.

Even at 75% of shape and with 2 practices, he can bring more than Kaberle (let alone Weber).

Better not to play him. After waiting to sign that contract its better for him to come back at 100% as to not under-perform for his teammates or get the media all in his face.

  5. Bbp: going into the season, my big critique of the team was that it was counting on Markov on the blueline and on rookies to step in and make an impact up front. As long as these two ingredients continue to hold up, I am cautiously optimistic we will continue surprise people. The minute either element falters, we will probably slide back into mediocrity. For now, both Markov and the kids have surpassed my wildest expecations and I'm loving every bit of it.

I was very optimistic heading into the season for a few reasons. One we lost a lot of close games last year. A lot. This is easily reversed by more depth. Something we achieved with Prust, Armstrong, Bouillion, and the prospect of rookies. Think who we had in the lineup some nights... Palushaj, St Dennis... freaking Ian Schultz was called up for gods sake... yes he didn't play but the fact he went from NHL call up to mediocre ECHL is a signal to how bad our depth was when injuries struck.

My thought was with the added depth we would be back in the hunt for 8th. I also expected top line to fall back a bit, but a better season from Gio and Pleks would counter balance that and we would still be in the battle for a playoff spot between 8-6. Depending on how healthy we are.

My ONE concern, not that I want to jinx anything, is that Price can't get hurt. Plain and simple he just can't. If he does we go down in a burning heap.

  6. The timing is perfect. I said a few days ago that we would need a shot of PK once the winning streak broke. If he can find his game quickly, he will be just the added boost we need to curtail any possible slump. I predict one more loss as the team works on integrating him, followed by a nice little run as one of the league's better bluelines starts hitting its stride

Agreed. I'm tired of other fans shitting on this team... I really believe we have a solid line up here.

I'm also tired of the flack from Leafs fans who finished an entire 2 points ahead of us last season and feel all high and mighty :P

  7. Yeah, a lot of panic in Habsland it seems. Sheesh.

Subban is coming back. That will help a ton. Losses happen. Chill.

Yeah this panic is silly. third game in four nights... our production is coming from young players and pp both of which would be the first to get sloppy with a heavy schedule and we had our back up in net. Also had our best forward last season out of the line up and still didn't have last season's top minute d-man. So... I think this lose was 1 expected and 2 nothing too worry about.

We have started the season 4-2-0. Yes those two loses were bad loses... but this is still a solid start.

Edit: We are beating the weaker teams while the team is learning a new system and meshing with new teammates, Prust, Armstrong, Gally, Chuckie, Bouillion, and honestly Markov who most of the team hasn't played with more then a handful of games. Add in the return of PK and we should give a few more games till we have cohesion in our line up.

  8. Apparently it's only the fans who are happy. His teammates seem rather less than enthused thus far, at least that's the impression given. Which doesn't surprise me. Time for PK to take the next step.

Markov said he didn't want to talk about anything not related to the games, Gorges said its good that they can focus on hockey now, Cole said it was good, Eller and DD said he was a great hockey player.

They were probably told to not talk about it and therefore didn't talk about it.

  9. So with Subban signed and 8 defensemen on the roster could MB make a trade? Habs have Commodore in Hamilton so perhaps a smaller, offensive d-man like Kaberle or Weber could be expendable? What do Habs need if you're MB?

Package Weber with say Bourque for an upgrade at forward?

Or, hang on to all the chips since injuries will no doubt happen?

    99% sure he is gone.

Bourque has been playing well lately so I'm not sure we would want to ditch him, but Weber will probably be the one traded... though not for much.

  10. Your spot on. In a shortened season we can't afford to use up valuable ice time with rookies performing like rookies, they will make mistakes and we can't afford it. Slowly we will be giving more minutes to rookies as they develop and make less mistakes. Being in a good position in the 3rd gives Therrian the ability to play our rookies more often, so any mistake is more forgivable.

My question is having Galchenyuk in the lineup better then Eller?

  11. Rib played just shy of a minute of PK per game with Dallas but he was easily Dallas' worst face off man. Laich is hurt so I guess with Backstrom playing, Ribeiro is the PK2 guy? Even so, I'd rather have Beagle or Brower out there, even if they can't win the faceoff.

You'd think they could get a big guy to just tie them up on the draw eh?

  12. I believe Therrien is using the young man in a reasonable manner, slowly picking his spots to give him more time and building confidence. It appears to me he is allowing the two rookies to play in situation where they can be successful. I noted tonight he put them against the Capitals 4th line of grinders, speed against the grinders. I like that. They seem to play a bit more in the third period, with a lead.

So far Therrien hasn't got a "fire therrien" thread... lets see if it keeps up if we start losing :P
