  1. It's totally understandable why he would feel this way though. I don't think you can blame him for preferring to be a rich star player at home than a benchwarmer in Montreal.

I do not think any of us blame him for that. We just want the habs to be great haha.

  2. The KHL is a better league than the AHL. He's already been a star in the KHL, so I fully understand his position, even not considering the money involved.

Mark Streit had the same clause and people on these boards were mad at him for that, yet it didn't hinder him to practice everyday with the NHL team and wait for his chance.

Again, I believe that Emelin would really benefit from a few months in Hamilton, being the number one guy, gaining confidence with his physical play and getting used to our rinks and style.

  3. Why is Emelin a problem?

He's done nothing wrong except negotiate an out clause in his contract. The reason for wanting the out clause is simple.

He can make anywhere from $300,000 - $800,000 playing in the KHL (tax free). In the AHL he's gonna make $80-100,000, tax free.

Careers are short, and he wants to get paid while he can, and not toil in the AHL for 1/5th - 1/10th the Money he could get in Russia.

I have no issue with Emelin's out clause. Every single one of us would do the same if there was a job waiting for us at 5-10x the pay, and closer to home.

I just think that he would benefit as a player by a year in the ahl

  4. I don't know why you'd trade any of these D-men, unless we get a big injury up front or there are problems in the room due to overcrowding. None are going to bring back a high return on the trade market and barring serious injury (always a possibility with this bunch) our situation at FW is better than it's been in years. So you're either trading for a surplus forward, or trading for a low-to-middling pick, or trading for another surplus defenceman. Seems to me we'd be better off going into the playoffs with ALL these guys available. If you want to make a deep run, that's precisely the kind of depth you want.

I agree, I do not see what the rush is about to trade one of em. Campoli won't be back next year, neither will Spacek. There will be roster spots open.

  5. I think Emelin is still adjusting to NA ice and right now he's been our 7th best D, but he's not that bad. He's got a lot of potential still IMO... and is not someone I'd want to lose for nothing.

He was close enough to the 6th spot that he should get chances to play too.

No way should we trade Emelin.

  6. Good for Carey! I have slightly mixed feelings about it, though. There's a certain view out there that the Habs are a mediocre team upheld by a terrific goalie; yet it's not as though Price won those three games single-handedly by any means, and the whole team played very well. Nevertheless, he is a terrific goalie playing in a murderous market, so kudos to him,

He did stop a lot of shots... but we also scored 11 goals

  7. When Markov and Campoli are both back, chances are another defensemen will be injured. Diaz in the AHL at any point of the season will be extremely temporary.

Agreed Diaz has shown he can play at this level. He makes a mistake here and there, but honestly the things that he has done well, at least in my eyes, greatly out weigh his downside and he has been a great asset to the team.

  8. Abuse is a significant charge. I don't think you can justify that charge when it comes to religion.

The cases where it is abuse are in the case of say... polygamous cults for an example. The kids do not have a chance to get out of it. It isn't abusive to raise a kid under your ideals, it would be abusive to punish them for showing interest in another religion, spirituality or lack of.

A friend of mine has two pastors as parents and he is an atheist and always has been, he was raised christian but it didn't work for him so he did his own research and his parents didn't stop him. Which is perfectly fine.

  9. I think we should establish a single rule for this thread.

No personal attacks. There isn't a need to get overly defensive or to single someone out.

I liked BTH's response. Fact based and he did it without resorting to a personal attack on character.

As Colin said, "Rather than get upset or frustrated, you should debate his points. If he's open-minded and willing to debate in a logical, rational manner, then his mind will be changed if your arguments are convincing. Alternately, maybe you can learn something from what he has to say. I've learned a ton from the few posts already here - and in the end, isn't that the point?"

  10. Things change over the course of the season. Emelin may be the odd man out right now but he could find his way into the lineup in the future, even after Markov returns.

If the Canadiens ever have their top 25 players all healthy at once that would be amazing, but I wouldn't bet on it.

We really do have an incredibly deep defense.

  11. Back to the original question. After beating Phil and Boston x 2 - yummy! How is everyone feeling about November? Predictions?

I like the look of the schedule. We're going to learn a lot about this team. Especially from Nov 19-30. I am really looking forward to Edmonton at the Bell and the Buffalo rematch.

I'm betting that the Habs win more than lose, and that we'll be back up above .500, in 7th or 8th in the East, by the end of the month.

The real gravy comes after Markov returns and has a few games to get back in the groove. December will be fun.

Seeing Markov again will be strange haha

  12. From any report I heard, Delmas outplayed all the goalies in pre season until he got hurt. Now thats just hearsay, but if accurate, you would think he is just in Wheeling to regroup. He has only played one game, so I don't know if he is ready yet. Hopefully Lawson is healthy and they don't have to make decision just yet.

If Lawson is actually injured it could be a great chance for Delmas to step forward

  13. How about Blunden and Moen stay where they are and Gomez goes to the AHL. Better line-up and Instant cap relief. Gomez AAARRRGHA

YES, I know that you can't demote injured players... I was actually responding to the post that mentioned what will probably happen when Gomez comes back.

We have been winning without him. Maybe he isn't needed as our second line center after all.

  14. I'd rather sit Gill and give Emelin a shot. Ordinarily I'd have opted to sit Spacek, but he's actually been effective the last two games.

I still stand with what I said at the end of last year that I didn't want a defense that has more then 1 of gill, spacek and hamrlik. Emelin at least offers the potential of physicality from the back end.

I do not think Emelin is ready for regular minutes. Spacek is not a top four.
